Well, it was 1-1-1 at the final siren! So who was the best value?

Best Cheapie (< $140k)

The only players that played last night under $140k were Sam Gibson, Jeromey Webberley, Steven Morris, Matthew Arnot, Brandon Ellis, Tom Derickx, Todd Elton, Brett O’Hanlon, Brad Hill and Steven Verrier. None of which really set the world on fire.

Of which, Gibson scored a handy 27 points in game 2, Webberley 47 points across both matches, and the much hyped Ellis scoring 34 points from 2 matches. So, we’ll wait for the other (full) games before judging.

Best player $140k â€" $280k

Not a fan of picking players in this price range, and with Jake King (65 points from both games) the pick of the bunch, you can see why! Hamish McIntosh had a modest return from injury (47 points from 2).

Best Player $280k â€" $420k

Brad Miller had good matches (76 points from 2) and Aaron Edwards a decent match (47 points in game 1), but meh, neither will be starting with me. Lot of talk about Jack Ziebell (59 points from 2), will have to wait and see in other NAB cup matches.

Best Premium (above $420k)

Lance Franklin is a superstar, and will be very close to the most picked player of the year, kicking 4 goals for 109 points across both matches. Former Hawks Captain Sam Mitchell also impressed with 91 points. Trent Cotchin (14 points from 1) didn’t get much game time, which is a bit concerning for those thinking of him.

Will have a SC version up on this, but can’t find the stats! Anyone able to help me with this?

and the much hyped Ellis scoring 34 points from 2 matches.

im pretty sure ellis didnt play against the roos, so 34 in one game against the hawks is a fair effort

Jimbo_11

just downloaded that spreadsheet and noticed some fairly obvious mistakes

such as it say steven morris only played one game when im 100% sure that he played both
and brandon ellis didnt play the first game against the roos, yet it says he played both games
just to name a few..

AFL website has Ellis playing both matches, and Morris only the one:

So, if it is a mistake, it's an AFL one :)

What other mistakes?

Forget all about Ziebell. Um,  he did really bad.

Ellis did play the first game against the Roo,s.....he came on after Adams was injured.....

fidou

Ellis played the 2nd half in the first game. Was not sighted in the first half. Morris had a bit of a go in the first game but it was a sight to see him absolutely shagged with seconds to go in the first game.

Awesome Os. I think Franklin will be pretty popular this season after last night.

Windigo

Don't read too much into. Only first day of NAB.

After the NAB has finished look over the games and stats. Don't go changing your team after just one triangle game.

....Franklin is a no brainer.

Jukes

The F.A.R.K.

it said on dream team (in the trial your team in nab cup thingo) that brandon ellis was on 20 points with 6 kicks 4 handballs 6 marks and 6 tackles???? surely that doesnt add up. I didnt get the chance to see ellis as all the footy i saw last night was when i popped into the bar at the port intra club every now and then but i was checking stats on my phone. If those stats were right he would be well over 20 points

JBs-Hawks

3 possessions in game 1 for 14 DT 5 possessions in game 2 for 20 DT

Colliwobblers

no hawk defenders stood out really for me but what did stand out, scream out, and couldn't be ignored were a couple of passaged of the hawks stringing together a TON of 25m kicks out of defence, which worked a treat for them getting the ball out and forward, and will continue by the looks to work a treat for your DT defence in 2012 as it did in 2011.

Can we afford NOT to have a hawk def or two ?
