Like everyone else here, I've put together a few (too many ???) teams so far this pre-season.

Looking back on each of them, it seems that I am starting with 13 premium 'keepers' in most instances, although each team has a different split of premiums along the four lines (FWD/RUC/MID/DEF).

I've heard people (the Footy Utopia crew, from memory) talk about starting with as few as 10 premium keepers this season, which seems like too few. My only team containing 10 premium keepers is with Caddy, Wallis and Polec supporting three premiums in the MID 4, 5 and 6 positions (+ 2 rookies on bench) and a single premium ruck.

Considering all this, what is the current number of premium keepers ya'll have in your team? Are you planning to load up on last year's more expensive, yet potentially lucrative, 'vested rookies' or save the cash a take the pure G'n'R approach?

*edit*
I am referring here to players you plan on keeping for the entire season (injury / suspension aside). Thinking like this means that starting price is a less important consideration. Its all about whether or not you see a player as someone who will be part of your team come the DT finals.

Grimes is a good example. Some see him as a keeper (if he can hit his previous averages and play all 22 games) while others see him as an place holder for a higher scoring defender.

I have 13 premos and two mid pricers, including Grimes and J Brown

are brown and grimes done as keepers for you? or are they your 2 value picks?

If Grimsey remains injury free, he will stay as D4
Browny is currently F5, probably will upgrade. Ideally would upgrade after my mids are done.

they way i look at it is like a soccer formation. i think the following structures are the best for a starting 22.

14 premiums, 2 values, 6 rookies.

or

13 premiums, 3 values, 6 rookies.

premiums have to be those who you think can be in the top 6 or so of their position (top 3 for rucks)

I've been sticking to 14 premiums, but I'm slowly thinking if i can find the gem values at a bit more risk it could definitely pay off.

Before i can answer the question, what bracket are players such as Martin- sidebutt- beams -hayes -grimes- duffman -barlow -j brown- gray -n roo in. I know your swans-jelwood-- murphy- gaj-goddard-buddy -lids-  pendles so on are true prems, but not sure if people classify the 1st lot as true prems or high range midpricers

From my perspective, it all depends on whether you plan on keeping or upgrading each player. Grimes is a good example. Some see him as a keeper (if he can hit his previous averages and play all 22 games) while others see him as an place holder for a higher scoring defender.

Okay, good explanation mezzoculo. Going on players i think (hope) will be keepers in my squad, i would say 14. But just to make it clear i would'nt call all of them prems. On a side note my team will change many, many times before the season starts

pavs nose

22 premos would be the ideal number

It is a litte subjective as you say, but I have what I consider 9 premiums and that doesnt count Heppel, Grimes, Barlow, Reidwolt or Brown, who at this point I am hoping all become keepers.

Thats the exact number of what i call true prems in my team

I'm going 14 plus Jonno Brown. it's all about strategy, and I plan to get up to around 17 by the bye rounds and then a full 22 give or take by the finals.
