To Barlow or Not To Barlow?

Yes, He's still a lock for me
Maybe, have to watch the NAB Cup
No, he's now out of my team
No, he's never been in my team

Michael Barlow is definitely well under-priced from what we have seen in the past.

Yesterday's intra-club:
"He played all 4 quarters (15 minutes each) in the middle which was encouraging.  As far as possessions go he picked up between 10-15 touches. However, he didn’t really impact the game and seemed to be playing a more accountable game than we’re used to.  I gotta say a couple of alarm bells were going off tonight and we watched him very closely. What I watched yesterday is starting to make me think he isn’t as big a lock as some are saying." - http://dreamteamtalk.com/2012/02/11/fremantle-intra-club-report-10th-feb-2012/

Now, IMO:
With Ballantyne and Mzungu playing more midfield time this will decrease Barlow's DT output.
Even Barlow himself says here http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/a/-/afl/12747198/docker-barlow-has-unfinished-business/ that his game won't be like 2010 where he killed it, he's trying to slowly improve and become better with his overall game.

I currently have Hayes in my side instead of him for two main reasons:
1. The Saints Pre-Bye Draw - http://dreamteamtalk.com/2012/02/01/2012-fixture-study/
2. 40k cheaper

question is, To Barlow or Not To Barlow?

I'm avoiding Barlow and Hayes and going with a 4 prem midfield consisting of Ablett, Swan, Murphy and Selwood.  I won't touch Barlow for the exact reasons you've mentioned and Hayes is 32, back from an acl , and playing under a new coach ie too many ifs and buts.

Yeah that's true but I'm playing 4 guns (Pendles, Ablett, Selwood, Thompson) + Hayes - I think St Kilda will be on the up this year and proven jets such as Goddard, Montags, NRoo and Hayes will all hit old form!

I am not going Barlow as he isn't in my projected top 6 mids this year. Swan, Gazz, Murphy and Jelwood for me!
Sorry champ :(

JamSainter

I still like Barlow but if NAB Cup form is sh!t, then I would trade in Hayes (if form is good) or VB or Vince.

Colliwobblers

the pre match  hit out is just one game, but the end of last season showed he can average 110+ again this season or more.

He may play more accountable footy but i reckon at worst he'll still average 100ish and be worth it even if sideways traded to a premium later.

I've got a massive feeling that VB will average 105-110 this season, he's up and about and has the responsibility of Captain and proving himself to the new coach.
I just can't fit him in at the moment, already got Thompson!

- what do you guys reckon Hayes will average?

ZEDDOG

For point off difference, have a think about Kieren jack

i'd also say no here, maybe that ex hawk kennedy would be better.
i started jack last year - he scored rubbish and then got injured! i got  a straight swap for pav in the end at the time but a waste of a trade. i don't know how much jack is but i'd say no.
i'm a no for both barlow and lenny. if i did start barlow it would be as a fat ass cow for an elite during byes

#10
but how could you say no to Lenny?
he's 32 i know, but he did 108 two years ago!! and Saints have a dream run to start off with

Colliwobblers

the same way you can say no to anyone that scored 100+ 2 years ago but is past there best now...

Didak averaged over 100 2 years ago you want hiim :)

Ziplock

he's worth consideration, esp. considering how many of the pies have been talking him up :P

Mr.Craig

This all seems a bit knee jerk to me, Lyon would be crazy to put a leash on Barlow. I'm not going to start squirming because of one person's opinion about one meaningless intra game.

Just Clancy

Might have to get rid of him for a couple of reasons, mainly because atm i have 3 mids out in rnd 12 bye and don't want to get rid of Swan or Selwood. Plus ,it's pretty obvious Barlow won't be in top 6 mids come years end. Problem is i have to try find $100k to get Murphy or Thompson or someone else in.
