if Swan is not the highest scoring player this season then those who did not start with him have had an epic win. Pendels Gaj Selwood Rockliff. If you had a starting mid like that im sure you will survive not having Swan for awhile. i dont think it's going to be a do or die selection.
He might not be the highest scoring player by the end of the year but his first half of the year in terms of who he plays is tasty you might have to wait till round 15 to save yourself 40k

tbetta from DT Talk...

"For me, the biggest thing I got out of this exercise was putting Swan in my starting line-up."

Originally, my midfield contained Ablett, Rockliff and Barlow, with Swan in mind as a mid-year upgrade (or perhaps even sooner). But with Collingwood being one of the worst teams to upgrade to, and Brisbane’s tough start to the year, I decided to put in Swan for Rockliff, leaving Rocky for a mid-season upgrade instead.

great comment, its the reason I currently have swan over rocky in my team , i just forogt about it.

I thought it was a pretty good article .... definitely got me thinking

I don't have Swan currently. My 4 premium mids are: Ablett, Selwood, Thompson, and Barlow. Thompson would be the obvious one to go but I'm just too tempted by Adelaide's easy fixtures early. Really though DT isn't wont over the first 6 rounds so I should probably spend the extra 50k and get Swan..?

Strongly disagree

Unless you pick the right players (or close to) from near the get go you're at a huge disadvantage in comparison to the rest of the people ahead of you.

Think about it. The people who started with Curnow and/or Liberatore saved 1/2 trades compared with everybody else
That's huge seeing as trades are absolutely golden.

Really not starting Swan is just using up one of your 24 trades to bring him in. Technically you then have 23.

Imagine having to trade for the best rookies at the start of the season and that gives you only 21 trades that you can use freely against people in the top 1000 or so who have all 24.

me

its not crazy not to start without him IMO

im actually thinking of having pendles instead of swan atm

Basically a must have. I've been looking at some nice numbers and...

Swan averaged 132.9 in his last 10 games of the H&A season

Sorry, why shouldn't we have him again?

Say i have

Pendel GaJ Selwood Rocky Rook Rook

u hav

Swan Gaj Selwood Rocky Rook Rook

You will use one of your trades to bring in Pendelbury.
I will use one trade to bring in Swan.
Technically we are both in exactly the same boat in regards to trades. So not having Swan has cost me the same as you not having Pendelbury.
Your not using a trade just to get in Swan, your using a trade to fill your team with premiums.

TheMailman

Well While Pendlebury usually sticks around 100-120 mark

Swan goes anywhere from 100-170

It's just your loss if you don't start with Swan.

Plus Collingwood is the worst upgrade team this year so basically I'm sticking with the Pies I've got

You'll find it necessary to trade Swan in because he destroys you and I can sit back and cover injuries etc.

I got GAJ Pendle Selwood Watson Barlow. Pendle could change to Swan depending on which rookies i end up going. At the end of the day pendle was on 4-5 ave points off swanny. GAJ Pendle Selwood and even Watson have the ability to outscore Swan in any given round and  i think they'll have upside on last year whereas i dont know if Swanny could. Although that stat of 132.9 off last ten was pretty impressive and could change my mind if his f@#K festing the NAB Cup.

It's fairly tricky to evaluate premos in the NAB. Remember people getting fooled by Yarran's pseudo running off half back role?

owenbond007

yes i was one lol except yarran was a mid pricer. Not really looking at what they score in NAB though more how they r moving assessing speed agility positioning etc Generally you can get a gauge on how they will start the season

Haddy1.0

When I saw swans price at the start I went straight for Pendles but didn't take long to swap the 2 around. Pendles and Selwood are my 2 upgrade options.
I've changed my team around way to much so I'm gunna wait until nab to finish it off.
Swan and Ablett a straight up lock in for me though.

Very true, most of us followed Goddard blindly last year would have been a huge advantage not to have had him and save the $$$ and upgraded.

Swallow12

A lock, especially seeing as he probably underpriced due to his quad injury

Holz

this might turn out to be a stupid call and make me a fool at the end of the year but for me Pendles still isnt in the same class as Swanny in DT, i can afford not having Pendles all year but there is no way im not having swan eventually. So im leaning towards starting him i might even cop the donut for barlow and keep him, everyone is planning on using the 2 trades and copping a donut in the forward or backline round 12 or 13 but i think with inuries people will end up using all 3 and copping 1-2 donuts anyway.
