The Supercoach

hi guys just wanted to get your thoughts on this strategy

i was looking at my rookie midfields and thought that my DPP player like brown and hampton may not score as much as the likes of mcdonald and horsley ect. I am obviously going to downgrade these rookies anyway before the byes come round so i was think that when i go to downgrade someone like macdonald around round 8 - 10 he could be worth up to 300k or more (most likely more then hampton). Then i would downgrade him to another DPP rookie hoping there is another one coming through (and get more $$$).

Just an idea that i wanted to get opinions on

Cheers :D

I'd start with the best rookie midfielders regardless if there dpp or not. Also with the new trading rules, you can always bring a DPP from the forward line (eg Pav) should no DPP rookies come through around Round8.

Torress

yes i agree pick the best rookies.

trading system can allow for flexibilty mid season to really take advantage of DPP.

with the new rules on DPP, its not as important as previous years to have someone in the other line to link up with,,
in saying that its still handy to have the link

Obese Arachnid

Yeah, it's handy to have the link but I don't like the look of many Mid/Def rookies (until NAB) anyway.
So I'm probably going to have L.Brown & possibly Zorko in their Fwd & Back possies so I can have more/better mid cashhies.

It still leaves a link there but you have to trade (with the new system) into mids when the others have fattened up.

Of course it leaves you with no link as back up until then. That's assuming you only have one of each, which will probably be the case for me down back. Fwds i'll probably still have one.

the link needs to be playing otherwise it wouldnt be worth it,, last year u could have a non playing link because we had 3 benchies

Obese Arachnid

Certainly & ATM I'm assuming L.Brown will be, like many others.

Obviously everything is still NAB dependent.

ofcourse, everyones going on about rookies,  at this stage its about getting your structure right.
people are only going to pick rookies that get named round 1, no matter how much hype they have pre-season.
if u have 2 or 3 rookies to choose that are basically the same scoring potential and one as a dpp link, u would be silly not to take that player

Interesting that the consensus seems to be DPP not as important as last year BUT the new rule quoted only allows change of DPP position with a trade and they are limited as usual.

Does anyone agree DPP is still as important because leagues are playing during the dreaded mutli-bye rounds. This is when DPP players will come into their own.

Thoughts.

I agree the DPP players will also assist during byes

eg I have 3 Defenders with a bye in Round 12
I have 3 Mids with a bye in Round 13
Using DPP I can cover for both rounds so assists in setting up for byes.

The other advantage of DPP is you can save trades if played correctly

St.FatBoy

Having DPP's on both lines allows no-trade subs, whereas using a DPP in the new 3 way trade allows you more flexibility in the trade.  That being said I'd still select the best available selected rookies for R1 reagrdless of DPP.  The initial aim to to raise cash to get the extra premiums on the park.  Depending on ladder position I'd also suffer a few donuts and a loss or two in R11-13 to conserve trades for finals.

Remember a flying team with trade in 8th will beat a flagging tradeless team in 5th  :P
