Guessing how well a player will do at the beginning of the season is critical in doing well as a coach,

According to Champion Data this is how the top midfielders will do in the first few games:

Swan $598,300 Will average 121 over the first 10 games. His value after rnd 10 will decrease to $570,700
Pendlebury $576,900 Will ave 112 Value down to$548,200
Boyd $573,800 Ave127 Value up to $607,900
Ablett $554,700 Ave 122 Value up to $587,600
Rockliff $554,200 Ave 128 Value up to 621,900
Mitchell $554,000 Ave 109 Value down to $521,400
Murphy $551,300 Ave 100 Value down to $493,800
Selwood $540,600 Ave128 Value up to 615,300
Redden $540,100 Ave106 Value down to $512300
Thompson$538,500 Ave117 Value Up to $561,100

Let's now see how Champion Data see the same players for rest of the season
Swan will improve to an ave of 127 for the next 12 games
Pendlebury will improve to 117
Boyd will stay on 127
Ablett a slight decrease to121
Rockliff up to 130
Mitchell down to 106
Murphy steady on 101
Selwood down to124
Redden up to 109
Thompson up to 121

Conclusion:
If Champion Data is to be believed take Boyd, Rockliff and Selwood from the start and keep them till the end.
You should then start thinking of getting Swan by rnd 10 when his value will have bottom out. At the same time think about getting either Ablett or Thompson, they will have about the same value and be expected to perform on a par.

this is why you cant look purely at stats and why i dont take notice of projections, boyd and rockliff both averaging 130 or close to it, i would say absoultely no chance of that happening.

Yep.

As for getting Swan after round 10, not sure if (a projected) 20k is worth getting someone else with less chance of averaging 121 through the first 10 rounds.

What are watson swallow barlow hayes projections with champion data?

Victorius Secret

Purple 77

Interesting statistics, but with premiums, you should set and forget. Upgrades will present themselves

saying that i think i wont pick up swan, i originally had him in my team but i had to go Selwood and Barlow over him they are simply much better value and i dont like the idea of copping a donut in the midfield. Yes you lose probably the best player but if you have ablett than thats a solid enough captain and there is more value in my opinion in guys like selwood, barlow, gibbs. Based on what i project them to score

+1.

They clearly prefer Rockliff over Redden.  :P

Dont most premiums end on the price they started at anyway. In some case they are slightly higher some slightly lower.

It comes down to who you want to start the year with. If the pies start well then you know Swan and Pendles will have alot of the ball, same for the other teams.

I would love to start the year with Ablet but its a young team and they will take a couple of weeks to start firing so i dont know if i will start with him

its not about what premiums end the year at, its when is the right time to buy the ones you dont go with. clearly we cant have 6 midfield premo's to start, so the whole idea is to pounce on a guy who has bottomed out.

everyone thinking swan is to high is probably justified, as one sub par game (90) will see his breakeven go through the roof and he will lose value. but is it worth missing out on all the points he scores before his price hits the lowest point? not IMO.

I got lucky with Rocky last year, after he had his sub-affected game he bottomed out and i brought him in then.
