Nicko11 had a crack at this on another post so I thought I would do some more thinking and submit my attempt at a round 1 team and the thoughts behind it

Backs          Johnson       Richards    Mattner

H.Back        Shaw           Grundy      Rohan

Centre         Hannebery   Kennedy    Bolton

H.Fwd         Okeefe         Goodes     Jetta

Fwd            Walsh          Reid          Smith

Foll             Mumford      McVeigh    Jack

Int              Armstrong    LRT          McGlynn   Bird(sub)

Our backline is pretty settled - Armstrong, Spangher, Eski, Lockyer, Brown in that order are fighting to find a regular way in
Centres - Merredith, Mitchell, Lamb, Parker, Gordon
Forwards - Spangher, White, Morton, TDL, Moore

Missing out unless for a LTI - Everitt, Pyke, Seaby

Rookie most likely to get upgraded - Campbell Heath or Dylan McNeill

Love to hear others opinions!

TheMailman

You really think Armstrong would be on the bench before Mitchell?

You've already got your running back benchmen in LRT and Shaw.

Plus Rohan looked a bit better marking in the forward line this year.

But otherwise not disimilar to my opening round team

P.S Kennedy is always rover  :P

I really dont see mitchell making the side round 1, unless his preseason is magic.
I have read a couple of article which suggest that Rohan will get a backline role this year, time will tell.
Not sure you meant LRT as a running backman, he is in the team as the floating tall, fwd or back and ruck relief? I used to close my eye when LRT went to kick though his disposal has gotten better.
Mattner makes me almost as nervous with his delivery sometimes. It would be my guess that they will prefer Armstrongs disposal skills, dont forget they have been used to having at least two running backs, up to 3 when Shaw, Eski and Kennelly were playing together. So Shaw, Armstrong and Rohan as the delivery boys imo, which makes me think about a quick change over.

There is a fair amount of educated guesswork as to some of the exact positions but I think the overall 22 will be pretty close to the side named for rnd 1. Other changes would be things like Shaw to the field at Hback, Smith to the fwds as the fwd shut down role and McGlynn to the bench. ( Team Edited to reflect this )
Though considering we play GWS first up a more attacking setup might be tempting, I dont see them blooding kids in rnd 1 just because of who we are playing, I think they will rather send a message, that this is our town, wait your turn.

My round 1 team would be this

Backs          Johnson       Richards    LRT
H.Back        Shaw           Mattner     Grundy
Centre         Hannebery   McVeigh    Bolton
H.Fwd         Okeefe         Goodes    Spanger
Fwd            Walsh          Reid          Rohan
Foll             Mumford      Kennedy    Jack
Int              Parker         Smith        McGlynn   Jetta(sub)

There is no way Mitchell will play round 1 without 4 guys going down.

he will play NAB cup as the swans normally play rookies

Spare players in order of playing
Backs - Armstrong, Everitt, Eski, Lockyer, Brown
Centres - Parker, Merredith, Gordon, Mitchell, Lamb
Rucks - Seaby, Pyke
Forwards - Morton, TDL, White, Moore

Really 4 guys?  ???

By your current 22 I would slip Mitchell instead of Jetta, he really needs to refine his game more
If Sydney wanted a running sub they'd use Rohan but atm they would rather use Parker/Mitchell

Also you forgot Bird so that would probably make it harder for Mitchell but I would back him to play 15+ games this year

They wont be rushing Mitchell back after his knee op anyway. Word is no involvement in the NAB cup so i wont expect to see him till at least after the byes

We wish!!! would be nice if he didnt play until the bye, perfect downgrade target. Not sure Horse will hold him that long.

Armstring however I think will need to wait longer than Mitchell.

True about armstrong, i dont think they will rush a young talented kid coming back from a knee op in to the starting line up

I think you have the general people who will make the lineup here abouts

Spangher and Mitchell are both injured so are not likely round 1 starters. Which brings in Bird and LRT

LRT said he was going to be moving back into defense, which means he will probably take CHB off Grundy and leave him to float on Half back.

About as close as anyone can be right now, until we see an NAB game or two.

Up until now, Smith has been generally been used as a FWD tagger Tabs, and a Damn fine one!

I am also not sure Parker gets in ahead of guys like Bird or Eski for the bench.

My Chumps

FB:   Johnson        Richards       Mattner
HB:   Shaw            Grundy        Smith
C:     Hannaberry    McViegh      Parker
HF:   O'Keefe         Goodes        McGlynn
FF:   Walsh              Reid          Rohan
Foll: Mummy          Kennedy     Jack

Int:  Bolton    LRT     Mitchell    Malceski

Parker's rated pretty highly at the club, and with good reason.
