i would say u pick the best team u can,, any left over cash is just a bonus..
but to add to that though i would also say, if on fanplanner u have it all worked out down to the last cent, u MAY have some problems just because the prices MAY NOT all be 100% correct.
so probably leaving 10-20k in fanplanner maybe advisable,,

its like reading my mind +1 ;D

Someone posted a team near the end of last season - with the benefit of that hindsight - that was full of all the mid-priced guns and best cash cows (ie. Suckling, petrie, Martin, Fyfe, Curnow, etc.) and on season starting prices it had over 1 million remaining in bank. This team would've kicked arse given the right trades throughout the season and it showed to me that if you're doing your research into the best value picks you probably should be left with some money left over (I think between $50-150k is fine). I don't subscribe to the rule of "splash your cash" for the sake of having the most money out on the field, but that being said you can't guess/imagine mid-priced players killing it who are otherwise flops!

If anyone can remember/find this thread, please post it's very worthy of discussion when it comes to the topic of how much money to start with.

+1, it really depends on how confident you are about your rook/mid price decisions, but I have decided to spend my cash based on how confident I am about my premos. Eg I decided to put Gibbs on instead of Barlow. If I had put in Barlow I would've had an extra 60-70k approx.

Kuruki

I need more money to make my team, there's noway i could leave any decent amount of cash unspent.  ;D

Hmmmmm 19k on the dot. Stoked with my team now. That starting a rookie ruck is a pretty handy money maker ;D

I have $57K left and am quite satisfied that my team is looking reasonably delicious at present

My thought is to leave enough to make a an early upgrade (if need be) before the price rises in round 3 in case someone starts the season on fire and is not in your team.

100K should be enough to go from a rookie to a mid-pricer whose gunning and/or a mid-pricer to a prem whose a must-have that you missed the first time.

Yep a great example of what we're talking about. If Barlow shows some great NAB Cup form, you pick him over Gibbs. But just because you've got an extra $60k to spend, what's the point in altering other selections just for the sake of spending it?

If you think about it, cash in bank means all the selections you do make are more valuable, as you're in a better position to correct/upgrade them if need-be...

St.FatBoy

The age old question, do I spend it all now or have some in reserve?  I like to have 100k over which means the first upgrade happens earlier and from experience those who get their 5th and 6th MID's first do better.  It's really a matter of balance.  If you've got a good blend of premiums, cheap returns from injury and rookies that play and score well then no point spending it all.  If 2 players are going to score similar pick the cheapie as there's more upside.  This is why the prem/rook approach does well without guaranteeing a league win.  Get the mid-pricers who jump in value and your team performs best for cash spent.

I have $100, yes $100. I can save money in places though. I.e Pendles -> Selwood and Clifton -> McDonald and Goodes -> Pavlich.

I left $4.5m in the bank playing sportal fantasy afl last season and won the league. I had only rookies and midpriced players, using all my trades on the duds early I took the 6 highest scoring backs, mids and forwards and 2 rucks with the cash remaining, and I got them all at close to their lowest prices for the season. I might add I didn't win any of my first 7 games and was placed overall in the top 25% at seasons end. Not very good, but I did come 5th in the league and won without the double chance getting close to the highest weekly score in a few of those weeks towards the end. (The 3 extra subs last season helped a lot though)
So if it's a league title you're after lotsa cash in the bank can be a very good thing.

The F.A.R.K.

i have 180k but if i have learnt aything dont leave it in the bank. You dont get it in cash so spend the stuff and get a good team from the get go. i left 1 mil last year and hence was 200 points behind everyone for first few rounds

Thought I would bring this up again...

I have 20k left, I have seen others with 150k less. Only differences in our teams are they have gone players like... McDonald while I have Hogan, they have T. Couch while I have D. Smith.

Is it smarter to pay more for these rookies or to take the basement guys for 50k less?
