Premos with the rnd 11 bye from the get go?

Is it compromising our teams too much to not have any premiums with the rnd 11 bye, in our initial squads?

The reason I ask, is that rnd 11 seems the most realistic round of the MBRs that we can have the 22 playing, so why not have as many premos as we can, playing in that round?

I plan on loading up on round 13 rookies so in round 12 i can ship 'em all off for Round 11 guns.

I reckon you should have a balanced squad of rookies/premos across all rds coming into the byes, so that during each rd your side will not be weaker in one of the bye rounds

Yeah that's pretty much what intend on doing.....in regards to getting guns with round 11 bye.

Yeah balance is good for sure.
Unfortuately our teams will be weaker in one of the bye rounds courtesy of the compulsory 2 donuts. :P

I'm just thinking of having a starting team something like-

B:Goddard, Delidio, Broughton, Heppell.........
M:Swan, GAJ, Jellwood, Murphy........
R:Mumford McEvoy.........
F:Franklin, Martin, Sidebottom, Robinson, Browny, (yes, r11 bye, but his price!!!)......

So no
B: Adcock, Butler, Hanley
M: Boyd, Rocky, Reddo, Scotty T, Priddis
R: Luey, Goldstein, Cox, Jacobs
F: N/A  :P :P :P a bit harsh, ok Petrie, Gia, Harvey

elephants

I'd add LeCras to the round 11 forwards :P

But yeah some really good points you make.
I am considering Hanley for my backline as it is very unbalanced with 5 round 13 byes and 3 round 12 byes and only 1 round 11 bye (Mohr)

I think everyone is reading to much into these byes. All the talk is about setting up your team before RD 1 kicks off to suit the byes but what are you going to do with your upgrades. Hell we don't even know what the full rules are for bye rounds yet.

Surely your going to make upgrades before the byes come around so are you going to continue to avoid RD 11 players. If so what are you going to do RD 12 & 13 when you have more players out with byes. You only get 3 trades in bye rounds. Thats not going to be enough if you start loading up on RD 12 & 13 players.

Just my 2 cents worth anyway.

You don't set up your team for the byes, but you want to have an idea of what to do when coming to rd 11 and then what trades you want to do during the byes.

At the moment what i am planning to do is stock on rd 11 rookies, for example all your GWS rookies, i got the structure 13/11/6, so by taking this into account coming to rd 11 i want to trade out 5 players for rd 13 bye players. then during the byes trade accordingly so i can minimize my doughnuts, whilst upgrading players like smedts, mitchell, walsh etc.

More like 3 cents worth. :P

Nah seriously, I just want to try to minimise the carnage in these rounds, and with clever strategic trading, be very competitive in rounds 12 and 13.

I'd be stoked to have 22 playing in rnd 11, and 20 in each of the other 2 rounds, coz I sure dont want to burn 6 trades over rnds 12 & 13.

Anyway, I've just posted my 1st attempt for 2012.
Feel free to rate, comment, whatever.....

I am trying to make the best possible team with roughly even bye rounds.

Thinking i might be able to keep the donuts to a minimum that way...

Andrew

Better to start with players who byes are later, then you can upgrade to the round 11 bye players? That's my strategy anyway, you can upgrade to round 11 bye players earlier.

All that being said, not much is stopping me from starting with Scott Thompson!

Yep. Scotty T, Browny and maybe Hanley will be my only round 11 premiums...

EvilRabbit

Am I missing something? I thought premiums with the round 11 bye were gold, due to the lack of them.
Going into round 11, I assume most people will want 2 players benched on each line. If these players are rookies, you are then stuck with them in your starting 22 until at least the start of round 14 (as you will be trading out players with the round 12 + 13 bye in order to avoid donuts). In addition, you'd want to use your 6 trades between round 11 and 13 to upgrade your rookies rather than sideways trading your premiums with the round 12-13 bye.
What am I not understanding here?

well if u have rd.11 premiums already in your team, than you'll have less guys u can upgrade too in rd.12.

i gather u are going for league win then?,,  otherwise there is no logic in taking the 2 extra donuts

Colliwobblers

the way i see it you go into the round 11 bye with an 8-11-11 structure you'll cop the least amount of donuts with 3 trades used in 12 and 13 you will get 2 donuts. (due to the ruck) not going inot it again so many posts about it..... unless dpp ruck that changes things.

I'm not planning my team around the byes but i am not taking 4 premium defenders from the round 13 bye for example either :) while making the best team you can you wisely spread premiums accross the byes to limit donuts where possible.

IMO to the question of the thread it's not hard to go without round 11 premiums, there are the fewest on round 11 byes anyway.
