Anyone agree the Hawks are putting together a side that will have some serious toe?

Franklin (for his size, often outsprints opponents with ball in hand)
Rioli
CYoung
Bateman
ISmith
Paddle Pop
BHill
AFrank

Did I miss anyone?

Cicjose

it has been well known they recruit with speed in mind

shame the Saints haven't fared as well when doing so for recent years

TheMailman

I think you'll find that all clubs have really fast players that can outrun most on football field. The advantage of Hawthorns is that generally the speed is a secondary skill that makes it harder to play against. Franklin is a key goal scoring forward first and a speedy tall second. I know for one Sydney has players who can match Franklin Rioli etc. in speed but simply don't have the same strength in other areas

Ziplock

cept goodes, who's a beast :P

Colliwobblers

hawks will be top 4 no doubt they have developed the list very very well, as certain stars age they have already new stars in place, ala smith bruest pop

Pretty sure Dangermouse is the fastest player in the AFL ;)

Not the quickest but defs one of the most powerful off the mark... Actually he is probably up there. Out ran Stephen Hill last year from memory..?

I do believe Hawthorn will be a genuine contender this year but that said, there is no lack of expectation amongst their fans. I suspect it would be beneficial for them to get off to a good start, which is not something they have always managed.

Would I be right in saying based on expectations that anything less than a flag this year would be a failure?

I would say yes despite the factI don't support them. They really should have beaten Collingwood in the Prelim and I'm sure any less than that would be considered a deplorable for a team that has looked so promising

Cruise, I think you are spot on with our expectations. Talking with a lot of my mates, some Hawks supporters and some not, everyone expects us to at least make the Grand Final and if we do I'd expect a win.

Yeah very powerful off the mark, which is probably more important to get that bit of extra space in a pack. He did hold the 20 metre sprint record in the SANFL with a time of 2.86 seconds, but Amos Frank recently broke that in a time of 2.82 seconds :o

the flying hawk

the hawks do have some pace but its not their game style they like to play a possession game where they kick around and keep the ball in hand until something opens up and then attack

Erm.....to break the lines you need pace?

Whilst having the ball in possession?

= Run & Carry

Coalan Mooney is the fastest "player" in the AFL now. He wasn't in the draft, so he didn't go to the draft camp, but Collingwood tested him in the exact same tests. He would have broken the record for the 20m sprint, the agility test, AND the vertical leap. Freak of an athlete, but can he play?

The Hawks need to ditch Bateman. He's only ever been good at running, and now they have heaps better than him.

MajorLazer

I have a feeling that Clarko may be trying to use Bateman as a tagger and this would be his last chance. If he works out as a tagger, he may play 2 more years, if not I think he will retire.
