i think in DT you could probably get away with not having set and forget rucks. only cox average over 100 last year (is that right - i don't actually play DT so i'm not 100% sure).
but not in SC they will score too big now (rucks).

i've been seeing how my team looks with one premo and rookies. i end up not picking some 'good buys' - i'm not going to do this but i'm very eager to see how the ppl who do, actually go.

i think i'll let others have a crack at this strategy as 1st real year with multiple options within the ruck premos and viable options for rookies after what we saw with zac smith. but will this be the only year this is viable? with no more expansion teams on the horizon and no rookie taking control of the ruck work? unless you absolutely nail every other pick, i can't see rookie rucks working to compete for the 50k
I disagree. My team is 1-3 and I've found it's allowing much more ability to pick great value picks my 6th forward and back. However I may have to go 2-2. I need to nut this one out.

pavs nose

Hamish and 3 rooks for me. None of this set and forget nonsense

Hippo

I have decided that i will go balls out and run with this strategy as of Friday, as long as the 3 other rookie rucks get named of course which im sure they will.

I know a few might be interested in how this pans out so i will post my team here on Friday after lockout to show how i started out with this madness.

I fly out to Bali Sat morning for 2 weeks so this wend results will be a bit of a surprise for me when i actually get to a comp

good luck dudes which ever way you go

Ok so i decided i wanted 4 playing rucks so i changed my team just a little from my original idea but it has turned pretty good non the less

Not quite 4 rookie rucks but pretty flowering close

for all those that prob dont care here is my team anyway going into rd3

ranked 2,322

DEF: B. Goddard, B. Deledio, P. Duffield, N. Malceski, B. Lake, M. Clarke, B. Ellis (T. Bugg, S. Morris)
MID: S. Pendlebury, G. Ablett jnr, J. Selwood, L. Hayes, C. Masten, J. Magner (J. McDonald, D. Shiel)
RUC: B. McCauley, J. Giles (J. Redden, O. Stephenson)
FWD: L. Franklin, A. Goodes, N. Fyfe, P. Chapman, M. Robinson, S. Sidebottom, D. Smith (A. Kennedy, Dickson)

I did however run the 4 rookie rucks in DT with Longer instead of McCauley and am ranked 699

Not to bad for a strategy that most wrote off

I think it is a great strategy ... Giles is perfect as a starting ruck and is really pulling solid scores.

The problem is the 2nd ruck position ... I think if you went Kruizer or Ryder you would be laughing ... out of the slightly cheaper options big Brock seems to be doing well ... shame he got subbed last week but is back in this week.

Good luck!

Ringo

Longer may be a cheap option as well for second Ruck given injury to Berger.  85 SC Points fair return.

mpollock

+1 ... especially as Broc was a late change for the Hawks this week.
Roughy played in the ruck with Hale so he may not even get back in.

I dont think the hawks want Roughy in there every week though.

I was hoping that longer wouldnt play this soon

Ok 4 rookie ruck strategy took a turn last week with 3/4 not being named and since i copped a donut last week with McCauley out and not having the E on Redden it was time to get in a ruck that will play every week!

Fyfe had to be traded and so did McCauley, i wanted value with these trades and needed to trade in a keeper into the rucks, trades worked out well!

Fyfe too C Pearce

thanks buddy!

Have to make a move on Ablett as i can't afford to have him on the pine this week and next while everyone above me has the likes of Swan and Murphy against GWS and NO Ablett.

Another thing is i want to be able to 2 trade upgrade with my next trades after this one sideways trade.
My trade plan is trade Ablett too Murphy this week, then not nextweek, BUT the week after that trade Shiel too Zorko, then move Kennedy or Smith to my mids through Zorko and trade one of them too Sam Mitchell. this way i have Magner and Old Mac on the bench for the MBR as cover.

After the MBR it is simply trade one of Magner/Old Mac too a rookie and then Masten too Ablett.

So in 2 weeks team looks like this:

DEF: B. Goddard, B. Deledio, P. Duffield, N. Malceski, B. Lake, M. Clarke, T. Bugg (B. Ellis, S. Morris)
MID: S. Pendlebury, Murphy, J. Selwood, L. Hayes, C. Masten, S Mitchell (J. McDonald, Magner)
RUC: B. Hmac, J. Giles (J. Redden, O. Stephenson)
FWD: L. Franklin, A. Goodes, Pearce, P. Chapman, M. Robinson, S. Sidebottom, Milera (Zorko, D. Smith)

Byes 8/11/11 structure maintained

In between the Mitchell trade and MBR i will bring in Martin from one of the tiger pups downgrades (spurr hopefully) and make Milera Martin as they have the same bye and still maintains my bye strategy

Rd 14 team plan

DEF: B. Goddard, B. Deledio, P. Duffield, N. Malceski, B. Lake, M. Clarke, T. Bugg (B. Ellis, Spurr)
MID: S. Pendlebury, Murphy, J. Selwood, L. Hayes, Ablett, S Mitchell (J. McDonald, Rookie)
RUC: B. Hmac, J. Giles (J. Redden, O. Stephenson)
FWD: L. Franklin, A. Goodes, Pearce, P. Chapman, M. Robinson, S. Sidebottom, Martin (Zorko, D. Smith)

Anyone see a better way to give it a real nudge??   im only 78pts off TOP10 and 228pts from number 1

charliesheen

That is a ridiculous team Hippo.  You pretty much nailed everything, probably has more to do with nailing your trades than 4RR.  I think the key for you would be knowing when to let go of Hayes/Masten.

charliesheen

One more thing, I wouldn't trade Ablett either, not with the depth of your midfield.  I think you need to play it cool for a bit.
