mind you hippo, if you can somehow upgrade your rucks by first bye you could be flying!!! but you probably wouldn't have much ruck back up as you'd upgrade the rucks who have made the most $$$, as compared to hanging onto one ruck rookie that gets a gig - big O/giles untill late in the season when you might need cash rather than backup

Am seriously considering this strategy, but working on all of the what-ifs ands and buts to find a bail-out strategy that wont cause  too much damage if everything turns pear shaped. It could work out to be a good point of difference if it can be pulled off.

What you say here about the back-up Torress, is something I hadn't considered yet.... back to the drawing board!!

orrenson, giles, rowe and jenkins could be a 4 rookie ruck combo..
I made up a mock team with these 4, and the coin you save enables some pretty stacked areas elsewhere - 4 prems in the def and fwd, and 5 prems in the guts... on paper looks quite nice

Havnt heard anything about Jenkins, do you know anything about him, will he start??

i think in DT you could probably get away with not having set and forget rucks. only cox average over 100 last year (is that right - i don't actually play DT so i'm not 100% sure).
but not in SC they will score too big now (rucks).

i've been seeing how my team looks with one premo and rookies. i end up not picking some 'good buys' - i'm not going to do this but i'm very eager to see how the ppl who do, actually go.

i think i'll let others have a crack at this strategy as 1st real year with multiple options within the ruck premos and viable options for rookies after what we saw with zac smith. but will this be the only year this is viable? with no more expansion teams on the horizon and no rookie taking control of the ruck work? unless you absolutely nail every other pick, i can't see rookie rucks working to compete for the 50k

yeah i agree, in DT i think u can be alittle more unique in rucks since the gap between premos and the rest seems less.   where as SC the top few have quite a gap on the pack.

You would have the same amount of rookies to upgrade as everyone else or maybe even less in some cases - 6 starting rookies (12 trades), so trades will work the same and of course a prem ruck would be the first prem to come in.

As previously written here i beleive these 2 starting ruckman rookies will avg the same as a starting mid rookie but lets say instead of you starting (for eg) Coxs & Burger i am starting Pendlebury and Martin/Chapman...

"unless you absolutely nail every other pick, i can't see rookie rucks working to compete for the 50k"

no matter what strategy you go with you will have to nail every pick regardless, 0.01% nail it!!! and either strategy could be in that %

O and yeah imo this is the only yr it may work and in yrs past it would not! and couldn't see it working in the next few yrs ahead either for obv reasons

i wont die wondering

Unsure about how Rowe will start the season with his injury, could be an upgrade/failed rookie cover between rounds 3-8. Jenkins is 23 so not a kid, Don't see anyone else helping out Jacobs in the Crows list to be honest.

& Giles and Brogan are running neck and neck at GWS ATM, so I wouldn't be starting Giles on the field (but I hope thousands of coaches do ;D)

kurt tippet is aparently doing the pinch hit forward /ruck work ala leigh brown from the filth.
thats what he was doing in intra club match - texas walker FF
this is why we picked tiprat a few years back but neil craig was a boring sod and played way to defensive and he never had much room. if crows play attacking tippet is a gun and could lift. but i still more than likely would not go there!!

brogan huh? i'd like it if brogan was smashing it too!!!

in regards to rowe - honestly you'd be a tool to start him? i doubt he'll be named round 1 and i would not be hoping he gets named just as i can dpp him later on!! he'd proably be sent to the 2s!!

One wend of NAB games done and we got to see half the equation here in Giles. Since then and now i have come across allot of talk about starting Giles as R2, so others are warming to the idea that this could be a real money saving option that can still net you the 80+ pts you would want.

Going to be very interesting when the other half plays and shows the same if indeed O does.

Tipping this strategy will become a real option to people who previously could not see it.

As previously mentioned no1 ruckman just score! hell Maric did pretty well for a "spud"

looking fwd to the cats games!

"Orren will play significant game-time in the ruck, " Scott said. "We're confident he can do the job, but until we see him against genuine opposition we're still not sure."

Is it just me or does this scream no1 ruck for cats!!!?

cdonny

Adding to this, Dan Gorringe from Gold Coast is still cheap, and Fraser is washed up. He's bulked up beyond belief and is playing a forward role, can take a screamer (you tube the greatest afl mark never paid), and will pinch hit too. Another option for ruck value...

Too many options...

Even though I started this thread, I'm still just too chicken to not use 2 prems.
Even though last year I used Smith and Petrie for most of the year....

eeeeeeep!

Just made my new and improved team, rucks are Gorringe, Giles, Stephenson and Derickx

A tad unsure on Derixxxxx, might swap him to someone else?
Any ideas on who? Rowe? any one else?

Hippo
