Funny how a guy that is almost always one of the 1st picked becomes someone you now have to think about. Enjoyed picking him each year in my backline more often than not good for a 100. Cant see me starting him in my midfield though to be honest.
Don't like loosing good backmen when the jobs hard enough already in that position.

Picked with #1 overall in the 2006 NAB AFL Draft, young Mr.Gibbs has been a mainstay in many Dream Teams over the last 4-5 years because of his DPP which made him one of the most picked players over that period.  Last year he averaged 107 through the season which had him playing Halfback/Midfield, had some backline affected scores where he was playing a negative role which took his scores down.  Averaged 112 from Rnd 13 last year, including his injury affected game in the 1st week of the finals.
Now listed as Mid only in 2012 many coaches have discounted from their considerations but personally I compare him to Jelwood, around the same average, the same age, probably the same amount of upside this year, but with Gibbs seemingly moving out of the backline & into the mids permanently his scores should consistently be +100, none of those 60-70 scores from last year.

Gibbs is a risk cause his not a top 10 premium midfielder so why would you pick him. Those he have the potential to be one possibly but you cant predict what role he will play. As for your comparison to jelwood i cant see it. His a ball magnet and his average is not a true reflection of his output. jelwood was knocked out early last season in the first quarter of a match. jelwood easy over gibbs for me!

he's the 11th highest averaging midfielder from 2011 when he was playing as a backman, lock him in for top 10 this year  ::)

If i had balls i would be picking Gibbs. In my opinion he will be the highest scoring player for Carlton this season. But i cant trust the coach not to shaft me.

Colliwobblers

+1 LOL

there are 18 coaches now I can't trust not to shaft me !

For mine yeah I'd go selwood over gibbs, but the argument for gibbs is a strong one. He is no Spud  ;)

jezzablue

straight up...he's a gun.
only thing that worries me about him is rattens likely to plug holes in the forward and backline with him when his team mates arent stepping up. this could see his weekly numbers lower a bit below what he could make when in the midfield.
but who knows...

owenbond007

you guys can have him i wont be. may have been 11th in 2011 for mid averages think he might slip down the pecking order guys like watson swallow barlow should out score him this year. Without dual role his a big no for me.

Holz

im seriously considering starting selwood and Gibbs

i have been playing around with a faily unique mid of

Selwood, Gibbs, Montagna, Hayes, Barlow, Kavanagh

Football Factory

Gibbs is a machine but after having him in my backline for so long i just cant bring myself to select him as a mid just doesn't look right. He could possibly push his average even higher this year but as stupid as it sounds i dont want to take the risk. No for me  :'(

I'm thinking if a NOOB like me posted that mid up i'd be getting laughed at but I'm willing to bet no one going to laugh at you :)

I actually rate it tho, just capt? i guess all those guys have thier days.

Ziplock

lol,

yeah Holz, I've played with all those players before (never hayes and tags at the same time though), I've considered going a similar strategy. I love the look of gibbs for a unique, I think he has to be considered :P

i'm a noob but i love the game followed it over 20 years but last season was my first season of DT and SC just never bothered before, so i got a ton to learn which is why i like this site so much, that and because every day/night there are people on that share the love of the game.

If you ahve as many posts as you do then you've been around in the community long enough to have read, heard and learnt a lot more than i have so you have my respect and thats that

Ditto, better premium mids available.

Windigo

I don't think many people that are serious with their teams would pick Gibbs. Quality player, but no longer a lock seeing as he ain't a back anymore.

But I seriously don't think Martin is a FWD/Mid. I think that's a bit cheap........But I won't complain.  ;D
