Anthony Morabito (FRE) MID $168,000
#2   Fremantle Dockers
Age: 20yr 2mth    Games: 23     Born: October 29, 1991
Height: 191cm     Weight: 97kg     Position: Midfield
Last Drafted: Round 1, Pick #4 2009 National Draft
Last Drafted By: Fremantle Dockers

Freo’s top pick from the 2009 AFL Draft (No.4) sustained a knee injury during the pre-season and missed the entire 2011 season. After showing promising signs towards the end of the 2010 season, Morabito looked set to take the next step in 2011. His rehabilitation has been rolling along nicely and he will be a welcomed addition to Fremantle’s midfield in 2012. The 191cm Morabito is an incredible athlete who creates a match-up headache for opposition coaches with his great speed and strength.

MID PRICED PLAYER RATING: (MID) 7.5/10 - ok so ridiculous price and if he is showing great form and fitness in nabcup get on him, low rating as it was a terrible injury he sustained. Also due to his relatively average DT output in 2010, that said he got close enough to the tons several times and it was his first season, well this will be like a first season all over again after a year out, top draft pick for a reason very talented and will feature in FREO's best 22 if fit and firing, super cash cow, not a keeper for 2012, take him over a rook ii the same way you would take a high draft pick (coniglio/buntine) over an ordinary rook, but don't expect miracles.

Great work mate, and love reading your insight. Could you do reviews for the following players: Will Sierakowski, Anthony Morabito, Courtenay Dempsey, Majak Daw, Tom Derickx, and Brandon Matera. Thanks Champ!

Majak Daw (NM) RUCK $104,200
Height: 194cm
Weight: 89kg
DOB: 11/03/91
Recruited from: Western Jets
Bio: Athletic and versatile tall who can play at either end and in the ruck. Exceptionally quick for his size and strong in the air. Amazing natural leap.  Learning the game and improving rapidly, booting 8 goals in the final three rounds of the TAC Cup in 2009. His 3.03sec 20m and level 13.6 beep test were impressive for a tall forward at the Victorian screening along with his standing jump of 70cm (top 14 per cent).

There was much hype surrounding the selection of Daw in the 2009 rookie draft.

The first Sudanese-born player to be listed at an AFL club, he boasts outstanding athleticism and agility for his size but is still regarded as a developing prospect having only begun playing the game at the age of 14.

While a little undersized for a ruckman, Daw's terrific leap allowed him to compete against much taller opponents in the VFL.

Injury meant his season was interrupted and Daw was unable to secure a regular spot in Werribee's senior team, however there were some stand-out performances at reserve level to keep fans excited.

Rookie Player Rating (RUCK) 5/10 - Low rating player still rookie listed, and my faith in NM playing even its senior listed rooks with anything resembling sanity or regularity is simply non existent (yeah ok bias) but seriously just too risky to start majak, i do know from interviews with the coach last season and his TV appearances which i enjoy, that they are working hard on this player are excited about him and sooner or later he will make his AFL debut and i think go well. Don't start him until they start him, hopefully they do and he manages to hold his spot so we can all use him as a mid season downgrade target.

Tom Derickx (RIC) RUCK $104,200
#39   Richmond Tigers
Age: 24yr 1mth    Games: 0     Born: December 7, 1987
Height: 201cm     Weight: 100kg     Position: Ruck
Last Drafted: Round 4, Pick #63 2010 National Draft
Last Drafted By: Richmond Tigers

The Tigers’ fifth pick, No. 63 overall, in last year’s NAB AFL Draft is a 23-year-old ruckman who impressed in his debut season with WAFL club Claremont. Good competitor with a strong, mature body and an ability to kick a goal.

Rookie Player Rating: (RUCK) 6.5/10 - So here we have another rookie ruck, one with injury issues and HOPES of breaking into the senior side for a debut at the top level this season.6.5/10 is  because there is no guarantee he will play early afl games. I predict a start to the season in the VFL if he performs he will get a mid season debut if there is room for him in the senior side. On the other hand he wasn't picked at 23 for nothing and watching that video he can play strong mature takes a grab accurate by foot good in the ruck and seems to have the footy smarts. ONE TO WATCH. Some sources say he could be in the Tigers best 22, so dutifully taken advice and up his rating from 5 to 6.5 and say now WATCH EVEN CLOSER :)

if richmond had to pick a round 1 team right now, big derickx would be in it, but lots can change! definately watch though

Thanks for that theflyinghawk, I will adjust him up to a 6.5 based on your knowlege and belief in his getting games, which basically is why he was a low rating.

William Sierakowski (NM) DEF $104,200

Height: 187cm     Weight: 83kg     Position: Defender
Last Drafted: Round 7, Pick #85 2008 Rookie Draft
Last Drafted By: Hawthorn Hawks

DISCUSSION:  http://www.fanfooty.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,44635.0.html

North Melbourne picked up Will Sierakowski from Hawthorn in exchange for selection 58 in the 2011 National Draft.

A skilful left-footer who plays mainly across half-back and on the wing, Sierakowski was signed to the Hawks' NSW scholarship program and rookie-listed in 2009.

North Melbourne list manager Cameron Joyce says the 21 year-old will be a valuable addition to the club's playing list.

"We are excited to add Will to our squad. He runs well out of defence and through the middle of the ground and his skill level, especially by foot is terrific. He's also strong overhead," Joyce told kangaroos.com.au.

In 2011 Sierakowski was promoted to Hawthorn's senior list and played an important part in Box Hill's run to the finals at VFL level.

Rookie Player Rating (DEF) 7/10 - looks a semi mature experienced (VFL) player with great skills. Promoted to the Hawks senior list and went straight onto NM senior list after being traded, you would certainly expect him to get games this year, watch and see when. Should get a run in the nab cup, not a lot of preseason news around about him, but i am led to believe he has enjoyed a full pre season. His age experience and abilities should see him debut in AFL footy this year.

Mid Priced Player Rating (DEF) 7.5/10 - ok i would rate dempsey higher, he has the ability to play very well, is creative and as such was due in 2011 for more time on the wing, definitely a rebounding defender so good for DT purposes. Did an ACL round 4 last season so has had a full year off footy but has recovered and had a partial preseason in which all reports say he is almost back to full training and will be good to go round 1. slight risk of re injury but hardly one to avoid as injury prone. Priced amazingly well, should average at least 70 if fully fit, his limited preseason is the only downside, that and other mid priced defenders we are all looking at. Watch NAB CUP if at anything near his best possibly get on him.

Mid Priced Player Rating (FWD) 7/10 - good rating he was a rising star nominee and he is VERY cheap he is also very capable and while not listed as a standout he is over his injury suffered last seasn, should be one of the best 22 and play and should be back to his improving best. I expect an average between 60 and 75, needs to stay on the ground stay fit and keep improving. Kid has talent no question, big risk however given the price, while good it is not rookie pricing...

OK so read the DODT article linked above and it says everything I could say but won't reprat.

Mid Priced Player Rating (MID) 6.5/10 - A Huge upside there may be, an excellent smokie or unique he definately is, a chance to play maybe he is maybe he isnt, on the AFL WCE preseason snapshot he is listed as the sub. As the article above says breaking down his scoring last season he did perform very well, clearing having a great preseason and clearly got a wake up call last season, would be amongst the bravest picks for 2012 with the potential to be one of the best. The challange to work out if and how much he will play, not forgetting he was a #3 OVERALL draft pick and showed great ability over 08/09.

Mid Priced Player Rating (DEF) 8/10- a high rating because in 2010 waters was a gun in DT defense and AFL for that matter, he was injury affected and inconsistent and that what he loses points for. Still at low $300K pricing he is a bargain, an uninterrupted preseason and a vote of confidence by the playing group and club to be reinstated as vice captain, all things point to a return to form and 2010 output for waters. If waters looks his best in nab cup he will be very hard to go past, the obvious competitor for the spot is Grimes. It is obvious Waters is capable of regular tons and highs of 140 but the worry his his proven ability to go low with 30 somethings.
