A sixth Doig Medal was reward for consistency for Freo’s brilliant skipper who rarely, if ever, put in a bad game in 2011. So here we have another DT Gun year after year week after week... take out the game we shouldn't count in 2011 (39) and a great year again for pavlova. Scores tons regularly and can put out some big ones.

The key here for 2012 selection is that Pav scores his best DT scores up forward (different hey) but he does, and with the return of Barlow and Mundy and co with a full midfield Pav is set to play a FWD role mostly, which should see him score more DT points.

Pav is an expensive premium you pick at a pillar in your fwd line, he WILL NOT let you down, (If he is on the ground), he had a couple of average scores last season and the 39 after doing the hip then missed the last 2. Otherwise would have averages higher again for the season

Downside: Yes there is one, his age, check the last article, it is feasabile and even likely that Pav may get rested from time to time throughout the season, this to me is LESS likely due to the fact he is the skipper and can rest up forward anyway, but check the last article it is something that has to be considered. This is what makes Pav an upgrade target for me. One his starting price, two i want to see how he goes.

Prmium PLayer Rating (MID/FWD) 9/10 - cant take points off PAV, he is a gun, he is playing his prefered DT role in 2012, he is the skipper. He carries only the slightest rick of being rested in easy games or late in games they have a big lead in, for me at FF not off the ground but that could still effect his DT scores. I doubt you can "rest,manage,or holddown" Pav tho.

The way opinion, teams being discussed and posted as well as general "expert adive", Barlow will score like a premium or close to a premium, given that i think he is a must have, someone who can score you the 100-115 in your midfield all season but more importantly FROM round 1 and at Barlows price is a must have and if you don't have him and your enemy does, you are either 100K behind or however many points less your rookie or midpricer taken instead of him scores.

As for Shuey, and gaff well, Shuey is not going to score as well as Barlow, I would risk having him as well as Barlow or not at all, its great to be different but not at the cost of your scoring capacity, Gaff is 100K cheaper so he is a different issue, still to have him over Barlow you still need him to hit mid 80s as a minimum if Barlow is 100+ but even then he costs you a trade where Barlow doesnt.

Shuey needs to have a break out year and increase his average by 20, Barlow just needs to stay fit and be Barlow.

Gaff I'm not sure on without doing some research.  ::)

Tim Mohr is a tall defender who was recruited from the Casey Scorpions in the VFL. The 22 year old is originally from Tasmania and played seven games for the Tasmanian Devils before joining Casey in 2008.

At 195cm, Mohr is surprisingly fast for his height and was a revelation in the VFL in 2011, finishing up the year with 97 votes to take out Casey’s best and fairest award.

Mohr is known for his strength and long kick and should be a key ingredient in the GIANTS backline in 2012.

Rookie Player Rating: 9.5/10 - I hate to give a perfect score to anyone, so 9.5. GUN, best rookie defender available, tall, very fast, strong AFL ready, learnt a ton from FEV and Caesy's best and fairest as well as considered one of the stars of the VLF. Nothing but good reports on him. Rebounding defender that will run through the midfield, only an imbosile would have this kind of talent used as a KPP or a lock down player, his syle is reminiscent of goddard and delidio the way they can attack off HB and run in the middle, and his delivery is akin to sucklings big straight left boot. A lock for any 2012 DT.

Ok I looked into this guy a lot before I did my research piece and didn't include the below article (comments) on him due to it being old. But I think the piece below best describes him and his potential to star at AFL level, but more importantly for us star as a DT rook.

*He is a KPP defender make no mistake, but he has great speed and he should be the player given the ball to clear it, likely a lot of kick ins too, lets hope he kicks to himself :). He will not be a DT player in 3 years the same as other key defenders are not, but as a rookie and in the side he is in that will look to him to be the absolute leader and go to guy in defence he will go well for us as a DT DEF Rookie I think, but your point is valid and we will have to watch the nab cup to make sure he can rebound and get lots of possies in defence, ( i get the feeling he could be a high acumulating back ala hawks possesion defence) as he looks for options coming out of defence and tries to control the play, slow things down and steady the yound side.

3RD PARTY ARTICLE

Still waiting on confirmation that Mohr is actually a Giant but i expect to see him holding down a key defensive post for GWS from round 1 next season. He is a massive unit and rebounds well for a big man. Has good pace and reach and will be able to play on the strongest forwards protecting some of the smaller bodied Giants. Having a relatively inexperienced defensive half, Mohr may be used as an outlet from defence as his kick has very good distance and penetration. Won Casey's B&F and was named in the VFL team of the year. He also ran a 2.89sec 20m sprint to finish 6th at the national combine, a pretty impressive number for someone of 195cm.

Former Tasmanian who reads the play well and has the ability to come off his opponent and impact the contest. He is rarely beaten one on one and strong in the air. He can set up counter attacks from defense.

His Q&A isn't listed on the AFL website but when asked the question which AFL player do you think you most resemble i would expect to see Harry Taylor listed. Both come from the state leagues as mature players, Mohr like Taylor, also plays his best football when he is able to zone off his man and intercept marks. The similarities go all the way to the pair being possibly the only high level footballers in the country to wear zinc on their faces regularly. Alas Mohr is right footed but if we were going to see him run out in one of the top teams next year i would expect a similarly significant impact as Taylor made in his debut season.

It will be interesting to see how he goes at the Giants but at the very least i would expect him to play all games barring injury and suspension. In fantasy terms he is a key defender, but if there was a key defender i would pick it would be Mohr. Watch out for his role in the NAB cup because he does take a lot of marks and he has a booming kick that the Giants may well take advantage of.

Rookie Player Rating (DEF) 7/10 - good solid option in defence won't pump out huge numbers but will be a solid rook and is strong bodied and a good user of the ball. The Crows wanted him he is not rookie listed he should play and if he does he should go well.

Fantasy Footy Club Player Profile 2012:
Although he copped a fairly significant blow to his fantasy chances when he was not classified as a bac/mid, Horsley as a mature age player is still very relevant and will likely feature in a number of fantasy teams next season as he is ready to play. Averaged good numbers in the WAFL last season after transforming himself from a solid rebounding defender to a dynamic on-baller part way through the season. With neat skills and a great attack on the ball; Horsley's game is well suited to fantasy as he gets good tackle numbers, has a high kick to handball ratio and can get forward to kick goals. Not quite sure on Gold Coast rookie rules but would assume since they have no veterans that they would be able to elevate two rookies before the start of the season which should see Horsley feature in the round 1 side. Averaged 24 possessions a game and finished runner-up in the Sandover medal in the 2011 WAFL season.

Should get good numbers, and be one of the higher scoring mature age draftees next season. If as i expect, he is named in that round 1 team he will be an automatic selection for my teams. Don't let his mid only status put you off.

Rookie Player Rating (MID) 7.5/10 - mature aged recruit absolute star great team for him to be in with his ability age and experience, the only reason he is not a 9 is that he is rookie listed, however GCS only have 4 rookies on the list no vets list so they can promote 2, 1 has to be horsley and I expect him to play early in the year. If he starts round 1 i'll be finding a spot for him and it will be on the grass not the pine imo.
