I think Clay's rating should be nudged up just a bit-

he averaged 120 DT points playing for Gippsland power in 2011... has to be considered :P

yeah 7.5 done thanks Zip, my biggest minus on him was / is his chance of early games in that side but it's not like he isn't tough enough for afl already and i guess they didn't recruit him for nothing, thinking if he was a sure starter 8.

Todd Viney’s season assessment
Jack unfortunately got injured and missed the majority of the season. He remains a really important player for us. Jack’s a great size to play in the midfield or half-back. He also has very good leadership skills and we’re excited that he’ll get a good pre-season into him and return next year.

Round-by-round assessment
Comments made by 2011 Melbourne coaching staff members Mark Williams, Brad Gotch and Kelly O’Donnell

AFL: Round 1 v Sydney Swans
Jack was really solid, after an impressive pre-season. He intercepted some marks and gave us good drive from the backline. Mark Williams

AFL: Round 2 v Hawthorn
Grimesy was good. He intercepted marks and switched the play really well. On a few occasions, he fumbled a little bit and didn’t execute his skills to the levels we know he can. It was uncharacteristic and it wasn’t what we expect. Mark Williams

AFL: Round 3 v Brisbane Lions
Grimesy was good and did some fine work off half-back. He was involved in handballs receives and produced another solid game. Mark Williams

AFL: Round 4 v Gold Coast Suns
Grimesy was very solid across half-back. He capitalised on several turnovers and helped set us up with some scores. He finished with 27 touches. Mark Williams

AFL: Round 5 - Bye

AFL: Round 6 v West Coast Eagles
Jack had a solid game. He defended really well and provided some great run out of the backline. He notched up a team-high 27 disposals. Mark Williams

AFL: Round 7 v Adelaide Crows
Unfortunately Jack went off the ground early with a foot injury. It was disappointing for Jack, as he had such a great pre-season and season up until this point. Mark Williams

Mid Priced Player Rating: 7/10 - (DEF) - Ok So Grimes is a DT DEF GUN no ifs no buts no maybeeees, gun gun gun. he also is injury prone 4 seasons in a row now, Grimey comes with ENORMOUS risk of injury, he has the benefit of being able to average you 90+ but is proving hard to count on for 22 games of DT. or even 21... Skill - 8/10 - Security - 6/10 (generous) DT 7/10.

If you pick him and he stays fit you WIN BIG you save 100K on a premium simple, if he gets injured again you risk at least 1 bad score and a trade possibly 2 depending on your cash at the time and structure. No recomendation from me, watch him in nab cup and go with your gut.

Ok I could show you article and write up after article and write up on Ball, but let me just say three things that summarize Ball.

1. Super Star. Sure is is outclassed by the guys around him? not really, Ball plays the hard in and under role and as an inside mid type player he does the dirty work and doesn't ways look silky smooth doing it but he is a Gun and a lock in the pies midfield every day.
2. Super Consistant. Yep a few barry crockers last year giving him a SD of about 18 but that said look at his average and look at his last 7 years of averages and tell me if there are many more consistant DT scorers than Ball.
3. Super Reliable. Ball doesnt get injured he doesnt get rested he doesnt miss games.

Premium Player Rating (MID) 8/10 - i would love to tate him higher but there is very little liklihood he will lift his score, there is even less liklihood he will lower his score so you can bank a 100 avg with ball for the season, no risk but no great potential for huge gains, at his well justified premium price, he is not going to be in many teams and the role he plays is the reason for that, not the best midfielder role in DT terms. But for his role DT aside he is a 10/10 player and a mighty fine PIE :)

Pass for DT for me tho could be a smokie and it is a "little" possible he could lift 10 points????

If he dropped in price for some reason a few bad games or a short term injury thats when he would a good pick up for late season reliability and value if he dropped a lot in price, not likely tho since he is solid and so reliable.

AndrewY

Thanks for info on Ball CW. I am seriously considering him as my first upgrade target now.

Chris Dawes (COL) FWD $357,800
#31   Collingwood Magpies
Age: 23yr 8mth    Games: 48     Born: May 16, 1988
Height: 193cm     Weight: 105kg     Position: Forward
Last Drafted: Round 2, Pick #28 2006 National Draft

The Player - Sprung to prominence in 2010 after three years of development to be crowned a premiership full forward. Is a powerfully built player and a reliable set shot for goal. Improving his ability one-on-one with every match, and possesses remarkable endurance for such a player. With his strong work ethic, a bright future appears likely.

2011
Made a brilliant start to the year. Played in the NAB Cup premiership, and an increased fitness base meant that he was able to make a greater contribution around the ground illustrated by his 26 disposal, two goal game against North Melbourne in round two. Remained a weekly contributor until breaking his knuckle in round 15.

Calf issues further compounded his rehab, and it meant he was forced to wait until round 23 to make a return. Helped keep Collingwood in the game in the famous preliminary final against Hawthorn, kicking three goals including the all-important first of the last quarter. Was subdued on Grand Final day and did not look like his normal self.

2010
In what loomed as a make-or-break year in Dawes’ career, the power forward established himself as a fixture in the senior side and was a key figure in the premiership win.

Promoted to the team for Anzac Day in round five, Dawes kicked seven goals in his next three games. Was demoted to the VFL team for a fortnight (kicking five goals in a losing side against the Northern Bullants at Victoria Park) but was quickly recalled and never looked back.

His season output peaked in round 14 (four goals against West Coast) and round 20 (20 possessions and two goals against Essendon) and he earned his first Brownlow vote with three goals against Port Adelaide. A steady performer in the finals, Dawes went goalless in the drawn Grand Final but fired up with two second half goals to end his breakout season with 30 majors.

2009
Played in two NAB Cup matches but was forced to wait until round 13 before he returned to the senior side. Could manage only three more games and despite impressing against the Crows in round 19 (15 disposals, two goals, seven hitouts) he was omitted before the finals. Continued to work hard in the VFL, kicking 28 goals and earning plaudits for his performances in the finals.

2008
Started in the VFL, playing in each of the first 16 matches of the season. Struck a purple patch midway through the season when he kicked 11 goals in five matches.  He timed his run superbly, kicking five goals in wet conditions at Kardinia Park only days before senior teammates Alan Didak and Heath Shaw were suspended for the season.

It resulted in Dawes’ debut against St Kilda the following week. He did his reputation no harm, kicking two goals (including the first of the match with his first kick). He was quiet until the elimination final against Adelaide at AAMI Stadium when he kicked three goals in only his sixth match. Had played in two finals by year’s end, providing an excellent launching pad for 2009.

2007
Was forced to sit out the majority of the year due to his knee construction. Recovered in time to return via the Williamstown reserves mid-season, kicking seven against Bendigo in his second reserves match. Kicked four goals in his VFL debut for Williamstown against Port Melbourne late in the home and away season in Nathan Buckley’s comeback match. Ended the year on a bright note, playing two VFL finals.

2006
Played for Sandringham in the TAC Cup U18 competition, as well as for Brighton Grammar, but injured a knee during the season. Required a full reconstruction that meant he slipped down the order in the National Draft. He was selected by Collingwood with pick No. 28.

Debut
Round 19 2008 v St Kilda at the MCG.

Draft History
2006 AFL Draft 2nd round selection (Collingwood) No. 28 overall.

Mid Priced Player Rating (FWD) 6.5/10 - UPDATE 7.5/10 - Ok so this player has a potential to score well, started 2011 really well, can take a grab, can kick a goal, with a good pre-season and a high fitness base he is a mobile forward. He is not for me and I rate him low due to the role he plays in comparison to the much more DT friendly roles of mid/fwd options such as chapman martin zaka sidebottom christensen and the like. For a KPP type forward which i do consider him, and honestly while he will play from round 1 this season i don't think he will start as fit or as well as he did in 2011, he is not the best DT option around even at his more than reasonable price. I would pick NRoo or Brown over Dawes, If money not an option Buddy or Cloke, (talking KPP type forwards). Otherwise I would pick almost any mid/fwd player at a similar price and be confident of better results.

*WARNING* As a pies supporter I am dirty on Dawes for the poor form he finished the season with, taking out his INJURY GAME and the 2 shockers after his return he averaged 77. If he can improve his consistancy which unfortunately for a key forward is not always in his control he could lift that average to 90 making him a bargain at his mid pricing - however this is why KPP players are hard to pick because there are always if's

But a fairer rating would be 7.5 out of 10 but I'm not giving it to him..... un less there is public outcry, I still mad at him  >:(

Ok thats not much of a public outcry but i must respect your oppinion and lift to a 7.5 any otehre with thoughts on this rating please let fly, its a tough call rating players like this huge potential and could be a gun in his position and with all that STILL might not add up to DT GUN. (due to position and opportunities presented to him by his team and otehr teams and weather for that matter, KPF's don't score tons in the rain)

Dawees rating changed 6.5 - 7.5 if you think it should be higher, pick him :)

Medical room
Saints fans have been delighted to see Lenny Hayes taking part in full training and looking extremely fit, after the star midfielder missed nearly all of 2011 with a knee injury. Watters says Nick Riewoldt is "flying" on the track, his post-season knee operation having barely interrupted his preparation for next year. Brownlow Medal runner-up Nick Dal Santo is still recovering from a broken hand, but has been able to maintain his fitness and is on track to play in round one.

Ok so he broke his fingers grrrrr, should all be healed and fine for round 1. But watch nab cup and reports on him to be sure.

Premium Player Rating 9/10 (MID) - yes i don't believe in 10's. NDS is a super GUN, another like ball that plays the hard in and under role, but NDS has the silky skills and the ability to accumulate possesions to be a genuine DT GUN. I cant think of a better ST Kilda player to have in DT that's unless miaculously Hayes gets back to his absolute best and still how fat NDS has come would make Hayes surpassing him now unlikely even at his best. I cannot give you a single reason other than those 6 shocking games not to lock NDS into your side, he has the potential to score 100's and BIG 100's every time he takes the field. If you took the 6 un-NDS like games out he would have averaged more than Swan (i think). Watch him in nabcup or at least know his fingers are fixed and he hasnt suffered any loss of fitness over preseason before picking him, and if not pick him and if he eliminates those 6 2011 games from his 2012 season look forward to an average around 116.8.

I know right? take a look at those DT scores and tell me there isnt a stirring in your loins,  :-[

Take out the round 14 bye and you have a run of 9 tons in a row including a 120 a 133 a 134 a 140 and a 154
