WHO?  :o

Ariel Steinberg
#25   Essendon Bombers
Age: 19yr 7mth    Games: 0     Born: August 26, 1992
Height: 191cm     Weight: 86kg     Position: Forward
Last Drafted: Round 2, Pick #31 2010 National Draft
Last Drafted By: Essendon Bombers
Supercoach Price: $113,200   Supercoach Profile
Dreamteam Price: $104,200   Dream Team Profile

Steinberg showed enough in his appearances with the Bendigo Bombers in his first AFL season to suggest he will make his debut in 2012. The medium forward has good hands and an excellent awareness around goal, is a reliable kick and also has some tricks to his game. Will need to develop his fitness and forward pressure before becoming a regular AFL player.

Draft history: 2010 NAB AFL Draft 2nd round selection (Essendon) No. 31 overall.

ESSENDON

INJURED:
Brent Prismall (knee) test
Courtenay Dempsey (hamstring) test
Scott Gumbleton (back) test
Nick O’Brien (foot) test
David Hille (calf) 1-2 weeks
David Myers (hamstring) 1-2 weeks
Nathan Lovett-Murray (hamstring) 1-2 weeks
Michael Ross (ankle) 1-2 weeks
Michael Hurley (hamstring) 2-3 weeks
Mark McVeigh (calf) 2-3 weeks
Travis Colyer (thumb) 3 weeks
Alex Browne (hamstring) 3-4 weeks
Jason Winderlich (hamstring) 4 weeks

ON THE BLOCK: James Hird has already forecast multiple changes as the Bombers strive to back up their inspiring win against Carlton for Anzac Day. Hurley’s gone (hamstring), while Ricky Dyson and Kyle Hardingham could also feature on the changes list. The Bombers didn't have too many down against the Blues, selection this week is all about recovery time. Expect promoted rookie Corey Dell’Olio to retain his place after providing a spark in the second half.

ON THE CUSP: The Bombers pulled their senior men from Bendigo’s VFL hitout on Saturday, so if you were spared the hitout chances are you could be in the mix. Kyle Reimers, Henry Slattery, Luke Davis, Ariel Steinberg and even rookie Mark Baguley fall in that pot. Steinberg is an x-factor forward with a great leap and golden boot who could fill Hurley’s void despite never playing a game, while the versatile Baguley impressed in the NAB Cup and could also be blooded. Courtenay Dempsey is also a chance to return after withdrawing at the last minute against the Blues. Jobe Watson says Travis Colyer is also in the Anzac Day  mix despite the club listing him as another three weeks away with a thumb injury.

Rookie Player Rating (FWD) 7/10 - Well hasn't this one flown in under the Radar?medium FWD lead up target takes good grabs and kicks goals readily. Didn't appear in the NAB CUP at all, has been sensational by all reports in the VFL so far this season. Likely to come in to replace Hurley and being the target fwd type he is not likely to be in a vest, tho who can know. Seems he has earned his striped in the VFL and may hold a spot in the side at least until certain injured players return.

QuoteWHO?

Lol, well I guess I know more about him than you do, thanks for the effort though
Saw him in a couple of VFL games last year on ABC and thought he looked a star in the making, should get his chance this week and looks like he could be a real smokey up forward - and his job security could be good if he plays well against the pies!

hey cw. Got a pretty quick question.. Boyd or S.Selwood next week? or another Prem midfielder? (Providing they play in Bye round 11)

Brent Harvey please.  Old timer who scored 138 vs Gold Coast last season.  These time he faces them without Ablett, so in theory that total should rise.

Kirk Ugle named for the pies.

Kirk Ugle

Height: 172cm     Weight: 73kg     Position: Forward

Dreamteam Price: $104,200

VIDEO:  http://bigpondvideo.com/AFL/314534/kirk-ugle-draft-pick-60/

The Player - A small forward who fits the mould of the Leon Davis and Cyril Rioli and with his tackling and defensive efforts. The left footer doesn't lack anything for pace, and is quite a compact player who stands only 172cm. As teammate Jarryd Blair has proven, height means little if you have the talent required. On the basis of his performances in the VFL todate, Ugle stands as a strong chance to progress in 2012.

2011
Played in the opening week of the NAB Cup but then spent the year developing for the Magpies in the VFL, playing 16 games and booting 12 goals. Averaged 11.5 disposals and 4.2 tackles per game, and was even held over as an emergency in round 19 against Essendon which indicated how quickly he improved in his first season.

2010
A product of Casey Park in Western Australia, Ugle played for Swan Districts in the WAFL Colts in 2010. His pace was identified as his key weapon at the state screening, and he was snapped up by Collingwood with pick No. 60 in the National Draft.

2010 AFL National Draft (Collingwood) No. 60 overall.

Rookie Player Rating (FWD) 6.5/10 - Has been very impressive in the VFL, small fwd than knows where the goals are and gets his hands on a lot of the pill also. Low rating because his JS is almost non-existent. Stocky and faster than last season AFL ready and should play well, may start sub.

Remains one of North’s most valuable players, although he will turn 34 in May. No other Kangaroo takes on and breaks opposition lines like he does; in 2011, he took 60 running bounces, fourth in the AFL and 47 more than the next best at North.

He is also one of the Roos’ best ball-users and most reliable goalkickers. Harvey now divides his time between the midfield and forward line and, in 2011, finished equal second at the club for disposals, third for goals, and equal third for goal assists (14). Re-signed for 2012 last August.

Premium Player Rating (FWD) 8.5/10 - Dependable solid safe option, better in SC than in DT becasue generally uses the ball well but sees less of it than other options. Has being ripping in since handing over the captaincy, making sure he has his own game in hand. Wants to play for a lot longer and with the new talent coming through will be playing great footy to keep his career alive. Will get held by the better teams, they will not let him run around getting 40 possessions. He may get more freedom tho with the rise of the north midfield others may cop attention. Solid safe pick, reliable durable and a favourable bye round.

Firrito will become the senior man in North’s back six in 2012 with Brady Rawlings’ retirement at the end of last season.

Firrito’s form may have dropped slightly â€" he finished outside the top-10 in the best and fairest for just the second time in the past seven seasons â€" he still finished fourth at the club for rebound 50s, fifth for one-percenters and ninth for inside 50s.

His ability to man smalls and talls ensures he remains an invaluable player.

Mid Priced Player Rating (DEF) 6.5/10 - I don't rate him but he has come out off a decline in late 2011 to start 2012 really well. Been solid is defence and shown a little run out of defence. Alwys scored as an average defender and likely will again but has started above average this season. Not much news on him becasue no one gives a shower but could be a smoky mid priced backman that could improve his scoring as his team improves. Pass for me. Won't be a keeper.

Aaron Cornelius Brisbane please  :o a real wild card hmmm

Aaron Cornelius
#44   Brisbane Lions
Age: 21yr 10mth    Games: 15     Born: May 29, 1990
Height: 192cm     Weight: 86kg     Position: Forward
Last Drafted: Round 4, Pick #57 2008 National Draft
Last Drafted By: Brisbane Lions
Supercoach Price: $262,900   Supercoach Profile
Dreamteam Price: $221,400   Dream Team Profile

Introduction
Aaron Cornelius was recruited from Tasmania as a promising forward who is strong on the lead and has very clean hands. He reads the play very well and looks to be an exciting key forward prospect for the Lions' future.

Background
• Cornelius represented Tasmania in basketball as a junior before focussing on his football career with local club Glenorchy.

• He burst onto the scene in the U16’s and was selected to be part of the esteemed AIS/AFL Academy.

• He was considered to have the ‘best pair of hands for his age in Australia’ when he was first selected to represent Tasmania in the 2007 U18 Championships.

• He earned All-Australian honours as a bottom aged player at the 2007 junior carnival and became widely touted a future star of the AFL. Despite his rapidly rising profile, his age restricted him from entering the 2007 National Draft.

• He joined the Tassie Mariners VFL side in 2008 and his form seemed to tread water as he experienced senior football for the first time. He still played a total of 12 matches with the Devils and kicked 19 goals â€" including a bag of four goals against Casey on ANZAC Day.

• He went on to captain Tasmania’s side in the 2008 U18 Championships and stamped himself as a class act with a number of impressive performances.

• Despite being widely touted among the top 30 young prospects in the country, Cornelius lasted until the fourth round of the 2008 National Draft and the Lions had no hesitation in selecting him with their pick No.57.

2009
• The big Tasmanian forward completed his first AFL pre-season and was rewarded with selection in the Club's opening NAB Cup match against St Kilda at Gold Coast Stadium.

• However, he couldn't quite find a spot in the senior side at the start of the regular season as he was in direct competition for a role in the forward line with Captain Jonathan Brown and sharpshooter Daniel Bradshaw.

• He showed plenty of promise with the Reserves side as a forward before being trialled as a potential key defender.

• His apprenticeship in defence earned him his first senior call-up in Round 9 against St Kilda when the Lions lost key backmen Daniel Merrett and Joel Patfull through injury. After a tough battle with Justin Koschitzke in the opening half, Cornelius moved forward and finished with two goals.

• He returned to the AFLQ the following week and played out the remainder of the season with the Reserves.

• He played predominantly forward during the second half of the season and kicked regular bags of goals as the Lions Reserves' focoal point in attack. Cornelius' strong hands in marking contests were certainly a feature of his game.

2010
• Cornelius was regularly among the Lions Reserves' best players in 2010.

• He booted 11 goals from his first four games in the Reserves, including five in Round 4 in the Lions’ win over the Western Magpies.

• He was also instrumental in the Lions’ win over Aspley in Round 9, kicking six goals in a gamebreaking performance.

• Cornelius was rewarded for his consistent efforts in the Reserves with a call-up to the senior side in Round 13, and played a total of five games for the seniors in 2010 after continuing to display outstanding form in the Reserves.

2011
• Cornelius was presented with an early opportunity to play senior football in the first month of 2011 after a long-term injury to Captain Jonathan Brown left the Lions with a void up forward.

• But after totalling just nine disposals and zero goals across two games between Rounds 4-5, he returned to the Lions Reserves to gain some confidence.

• After being initially trialled down back, Cornelius proved that full-forward was his primary position by kicking regular bags of goals and providing headaches for the NEAFL.

• In fact, he rocketed up to second on the NEAFL goal-kicking list after booting 16 goals from three games.

• His form became too hard to ignore, and he was eventually recalled to the senior team for the final six matches, which produced a total of 10 goals - including a career-best haul of four goals against Adelaide in Round 20.

• He finished 2011 with a career-best return of eight AFL games and 10 goals, and still managed to place 5th overall on the NEAFL goal-kicking leaderboard with 46 goals with the Lions Reserves.

Mid Priced PLayer Rating (FWD) 7.5/10 - Looks a very likely target fwd in a below average Lions FWD line. I expect him to become a popular target with Brown being matched up unfavourably and on his past outing looks to be a strong mark and a decent kick for goal. Has struggled to lock himslef into the best 22 for 3 seasons, but seems a likely lock now, plays a role that they desperately need and plays it well. Excellent value one more game we get to see him before his price change so well worth keeping on the radar, needs the lions ruck and clearance players to significantly lift to keep supply up to him in his key fwd role, lets see how they go against a strong side this round as his 91 came against a weak one.
