First post on this forum, so go easy !

First and foremost, i'm relatively new to the AFL game.  I played in 09/10 (badly, just didn't get it) again last year, where I did a bit better, but tried something a bit different and it basically took me a load of trades to put right.

This year i'm hoping to be a little more competitive and have been doing a bit of research and of course I managed to find this thread.  I must say Colli, this is one of the finest threads i've ever seen on an internet message forum.  Absolute top work and invaluable to an inexperienced player like myself.
I'd like your opinions on the following please:
Michael Doughty
Paul Duffield
and just to be cheeky, Shaun Burgoyne and David Hale too !  It's this 'mid-range' that's causing me the most problems.

First of all good on you and thanks for the nice comments, tons of top class helpful people on this site. you want to know anything or get opinions on your team and the answers and advice will flow (and 90% possitive and constructive)........ OK

In 2011 he had a high of 105 his only ton in DT had a handfull in SC and was much higher scoring and more consistant in SC, as a DT player he had far too many scores between 50 and 70 (most of his scores were).

http://www.afl.com.au/tabid/208/default.aspx?newsid=122979

Apart from the team improving I cant see him improving a lot personnaly but he does have a ridiculously easy draw for 2012.

Premium Player Rating (DEF) 6.5/10 - cost you almost $400k but wont earn you the top scores / avg you neeed from your DT defender premiums. For SC on the other hand this is one of those guys that is good for one not for the other, 8.5/10 SC. uses the ball well and easy draw. Either way he is gettin on and a the only or most experienced defender he will get the shut down roles which are not fantasy friendly so there WILL be those low scores on and off.

2011 Wrap - a good year to look at him as he is discounted due to his less than average duffield year last season. Had a couple of tons including his high of 120 a few 90+ and the rest was all over the place average... what happened?

Premium Player Rating (DEF) 6/10 - I don't see him getting back to the top of his game and averaging high 80's again, he is capable of much but too often achieves little instead. Don't like the role he plays, don't like the inconsistancy, not sure how he will be used this season tho and everything may change drastically for better or for worse, would not lock him in until you know a lot more than i do, no news on him for you no advice either, sit on the fence watch nabcup and peek over the freo fence to try get an idea of his 2012 role and value. Is capable and is cheap.

Thanks for Brodie Moles, One more player if you don't mind Colli is Issac Smith.

He's one of those Kids that screams DT, I was lucky enough to jump on him last year after his first price rise and was reward quiet nicely on a few occasion. Has the rare ability to score 60+ in a quarter (if he was a forward this year like last i would be on, one that could to a Redden/Rockliff)

colli it would be great if you could do Bachar Houli for me. Thanks

Rookie Player Rating (FWD/MID) 9.5/10 - I could go on forever, mature aged, afl ready, club says ready to go round 1, his skills say a cross between sucklings kicking and a typical mid/fwd body and skillset. LOCK.

Rookie Player Rating (FWD/MID) 8.5/10 - Another AFL ready rookie, this one is rookie listed and that would have rated him between 5 and 7 EXCEPT Port have a veteran in cassisi and they now also have a LTI listed player added to the list earlier this week, Port went looking for strong bodies players and this is who they found, they drafted him with the intent to play him straight away and now there is the LTI as well as the vet i expect him upgraded and playing in round 1 and I cant wait to see him go, looks like a ready made port midfielder and a bulldozer to boot. Once promoted another LOCK. Tho will not hit the elite level ever i think, but we are not picking him now for that.

Adam Treloar shares his birth date with team mate Dylan Shiel. Like Shiel, Treloar is an exciting young prospect for the club and is a silky‐skilled right‐footed creative and running player who can fulfil a variety of positions.

Standing at 183cm, he was the fifth 17 year old signed by GWS under the Club's list concessions.

At the 2009 NAB Under‐16 Championships he averaged an elite 21 disposals, eight handball‐receives and 11 contested possessions per match and then debuted to play six matches with Dandenong at TAC Cup level including the Grand Final.

In 2010 he played a further eight matches for the Stingrays where his averages of 22 disposals and 10 contested possessions were both elite while at the 2010 NAB Under‐18 Championships he played four of five matches to average 18 disposals and eight contested possessions.

Rookie Player Rating (FWD/MID) 8/10 - In sheeds best 21 so he will be playing this season from the start, not afl ready but the GWS rooks have to play and he is a skilled young player. Will start in my forward line if hampton doesnt steel his spot. Safe solid pick.

Mid Priced Player Rating (MID) 7/10 - such a shame he is listed as a midfielder, but after all that is what he is and will be, if not this season then next season, according to the club that is. He is listed as having had a great pre season, was one of the BOG in the practice ic game. He is touted for midfield time and said to be likely to play a larger role and improve significantly, as a  FWD/MID which he should be he would be as much a lock as sidebottom, zaka, martin and the like, as a pure mid he loses a couple of points /10 and is possibly unpickable for the fact he will still play mostly in the fwd line and cannot achieve midfield keeper status, not this season anyway. may prove me wrong, is a gun, but skill is not enough for an elite midfielder experience and footy smarts have to be developed.

Doyle

I was wondering about Luke Hodge... Not given any thought really, is a great leader and had a couple of good DT seasons, how do you reckon he's going to go? Maybe a predicted average?

2011 Wrap: 6 tons last season with a high of 127. A few shockers but overall a very consistant year. Just a slight lift on other season Houli has always been about this good, a bit more of a lift and he really starts to become DT relevant.

Premium Player Rating (DEF) 8/10 - limited choices for 90+ average defenders down back and Hoili will come VERY VERY close to joining that group this season. There are nothing but upsides to him based on his preseason form his strength and fitness adn his great 2011 season. There are only a couple of negatives and doubts around his DT/SC scoring for 2012 and ability to BE CHOSEN. He shares a round 13 bye with Scotland, Goddard, Delidio, Birchall, Suckling, Carrazo, Fisher. That is the first "hard part" now that just leaves the question of how the guaranteed appearances of Morris and Ellis will effect his scoring. We know Delidio is headed for the midfield , we also need to make sure Houli takes his running half back role rather than a lockdown role. Heading for elite DT status, pity about the bye and a couple of questions to be asked and answered before selection.

I am not experienced enough or qualified enough to give you predicted averages but Hodgey should go for between 95 and 110

The assistant coach and I am sure a LOT of "experts" out there would/are leaning towards the 95 end of that scale.

2011 Wrap: 11 tons with a high of 154, 5 of those tone over 120. a few shockers were the problem. This is why I have him capable of up to 110, unless he falls over he is an elite midfielder, end of story.

Premium Player Rating (MID) 8/10 - still an elite player but I think past his prime in DT terms, still capable of pumping out huge scores but his inconsistancy last year was unsettling. A risky pick, better option available in particular Mitchell if you want to talk hawks.

elephants

Here we go again CW!!

Scott Pendlebury and Joel Selwood, not sure who to make my 3rd mid of these guys. Taking price into account. Thanks

Ziplock

Selwood definitely taking price into account. Pendles has peaked (for the next year or two), while selwood is like 6 points underpriced. Pendles has those GWS speculations etc. while Selwood was just captained.

Soz for hijacking the thread again cwob :P

elephants

Thanks Zip.

Pendles may be proving a point to Bucks (that he is worth holding onto) or equally could be looking to destroy this year so he is raking in bigger dollars for GWS.

Selwood is insanley under-priced BUT will taking the captaincy mean he has to put the team first and therefore end up sacrificing some points??

+'s and -'s for both. Something that helps Selwood is that he isn't playing for the same team as Swan therefore giving me a better variety of Skipper options. I.e when C'Wood play Hawks )and 120+'s will be tough to come by the Cats might play GWS at Skilled therefore making Selly a better pick...

Shrews

Thanks for Doughty and Duffield, Colli.  I suspected that they wouldn't be rated that highly as nobody seems to be talking about them!  So, it's good to get a conclusive opinion.  I'm not picking them !

I'd like a rating too on Hayle and Burgoyne please, just to put me out of my indecisive misery !
