6 is a big call, i agree 4 is tons i think for the same reasons although if you do get 6 of 6 of the best you have a flying start to the season but your fwd def rooks better be the right ones

Ziplock

I'm with chops.

that being said, atm I have 2 guns, 4 midpricers and 2 rooks :P

I assume Barlow/Hayes is your mid-price?

At this point I have Barlow but he could turn into anyone. I have my eye on a few young players. My mid price last year was Rockliff and he along with Fyfe have been my best ever picks.

Chopps

i currently have 4, 110+ players and i think its 1 to many

Colliwobblers

yeah well it depends a lot on the ruck this year which way you go in the ruck determines your ability to increase a premium on another line. I have 3.5 premiums in the mid, 4 in the back and 3 and 2 .5's in the fwd

Miss Pies

This year I am going with the Gun/only 1 midpriced/rook strat. And yes picking 5 guns in mids. This is where you score the majority of your points so why not capitalize on that.

Last couple of years I have been using Gun/midpriced/rooks and found that midpriced are midpriced cus well that's all they are worth and found it difficult to even make any money from them..some were making a little cash but very slowly cus as soon as they had one or two intense games the B/E would get extremely high and then almost back to square one with price drop when B/E was not met.

Whilst Gun players have the same senario of dropping in price when rather high B/E's were not met it didn't matter because who the hell is gonna trade a fit Gun? Plus it only decreases overall team price not your salary.

Who I choose as my one midpriced will be very important to me. Choosing Guns is relatively easy and grabbing first round rookies that have done well in NAB Cup is also somewhat easy.

Players like Brian Lake that are bouncing back from injury that showed good form when they came back late season, I'll keep my eye out on those type players and also players coming into their 2nd - 3rd year that are now at either GC or moved to GWS. Players left to run amok in the mid ie: J.Trengrove (although high priced) because Scully has left to go to GWS will be good choices too.

And I'll stop raving on now lol

wise miss pies wise indeed, i think it is obvious well written up and proven that the purist GUN/ROOK strategy is the best way, and looking at the poll thats what people agree, however peoples teams i am seeing arent gun/rrok, they are mainly gun rook but like you they are adding at least one midpriced to almost every line. meaning its not true gun rook, but it is more gun rook than it is a midpriced team.

I think we simply cant help ourselves when we get a carrot dangled in front of us in the form of someone who has been elite could be elite or could be a super cow at the right price.

I know i should have zero mid pricers all guns i can afford and the rest every other playr a rookie cash cow with the sole purpose of upgrading the number of guns in the team as soon as possible. But im going to have at least 4 midpricers in the team anyway, because im human and imperfect and aussie which means i love to take a punt.

Miss Pies

I was going to put a midpriced in my midfield but have opted out. This is what my line up is as I've already chosen my team. The only thing that will change is any LTI's in pre-season and rookies if no TOG.

I wont include on the pine as they are all rookies.

DEF
3 Guns 1 Mid 3 Rooks
MID
5 Guns 1 Rook
FOLL
2 Guns
FWDS
3 Guns 1 Mid 3 Rooks

thats a great setup , i am dubius about 5 mid guns but i was also tempted to do so. be a great team by the looks of it.

Miss Pies

Well if all I gotta do is slot in my 6th Gun in Mids then work on three rooks to either keep if worth keeping (Michael Barlow types with break out first years) or upgrade. I have also chosen mature rookies in my line up as these guys have a better understanding of the game and experience. Some people would think a mature age rookie isn't worth anything assuming if he was so great he woulda broke into seniors a while ago. Where as most players if you want to be realistic take 3-4 years to even begin to peak.

4INAROW

im going 3,1,3 counting barlow as mid priced

gaj, swan, selwood, barlow, horsely, clifton (zorko, l.brown)

That's a lot of defender and forward rooks your looking to select. Good luck.

I'm looking at 4-1-2 / 3-1-2 / 1-1 /  4-1-2 as there is better rookie opportunities in the Mids.

elephants

I am looking at starting 3 guns - 3 rooks. Any major disadvantages?

I am only really doing it as I want to fit...

S. Clifton, K. Horsely, T. Mitchell, D. Shiel and J. McDonald into my midfield along with Swan, Pendles and Gazz.

Should i drop one of these rooks for a premo?
Thanks.

The F.A.R.K.

Mine atm is

Swan, Pendles, Selwood, Tyson, Stevens, Zorko
Shiel, Macdonald

I could drop shiel for ablett but then i would have to downgrade other areas which im not keen on.
