yeah i did a write up on okeefe when he was dirt cheap and DID NOT get on him.

I also did a write up on stevie J when he was dirt cheap, and again DID NOT get on him either.

hindsight hey...

i did get on cloke mitchell and rockliff when they were dirt cheap, and guess what - they're still dirt cheap and for good reason

;D

oh well as long as we have had fun hey, and still the finals to come......

I started with rockliff :/

At least I made the elxam finals, only thing that made me have fun the whole year. I didn't make top 8 in any of my 5 leagues. 9th in Champs leagues though. Worst season I have had in the past 5 years too. Can't remember the last time I was outside the top 10k, but sure it was around round 1 2009. :'(

Andrew

Well done on the overall ranking and cheers for posting. It's interesting looking at how someone in the top 2000 goes about it. I'm currently sitting just outside the top 2000, but with Gibson as cover for Swan I hope to do a bit better than others. Like yourself, I'm out of trades and D7 is a problem with Ellis/Shaw/Darley filling it (really thought Darley would play and be alright...). The final few trades just seemed clutch and it always appears better to lock in a cheap player while you're in a position to do so. But it's not necessary. Something I've taken on board this year also.

you need a lot of luck to get top 10,000 so you have done really well, i started a lot of spuds that didnt pay off and made a couple of silly trades.

swan out for two weeks now shows us why saving trades is important, but i was never focused on league finals just the best possible overall rank.

the byes cost me a LOT of trades, but those trades and those rounds also gained me a LOT of ranks which i have so far held onto.

I would be VERY happy to crack the top 1000 but suspect i will finish a fair way outside it, certainly i'll start 4 elite mids and 2 elite rucks next season and should give the top 1000 a better crack than this season...

good luck to you in your run home.

Andrew

I wouldn't be too harsh on yourself with the mid-price pickups. There were plenty that if you started with, you'd be killing it by now. You just picked the wrong ones but some of those players could just be breakouts next year. Another key skill needed is knowing when to hop off rookies, I got off Greene, Treloar, and even Smith too early. But it was hard to judge GWS rookies because they were playing in a rookie side and were up & down, in & out of the side. Won't have that next season. Shows that maybe you can't take every lesson learned into the next year because so much changes from year to year...

Well said Andrew, and next years challange will be picking the rooks that will actualy play :) last two years have been easy with the two startup clubs next year is back to normal and getting that right on it's own can make or break your season.

I'll give you two... O'Meara and Crouch :P

4 top premium mids are the way to go, no risks like Rocky... Something like Swan, Pendles, Ablett and Murphy/Boyd/Cotchin

I think a two premium ruck idea with one of the rookies being a F/R to switch with a forward who is a F/R will be a key element to gaining points on others next year. Maybe one of the premium ruckmen could be a F/R like roughead, but depends on whether cox/nicnat etc get DPP status!

well lady luck was not with me :-[

FREE JACK ZIEBELL (CAN HE FIND THE BALL WHEN HE IS) I hope so! My DT hopes so!

Good calls all round there, Cox dual position status would be massive, surely linking him & Roughead up will be the play. Only thing I'll most likely do different is 3 "super"-premium mids, 1 mid pricer then rest rookies. I skimped slightly on 2 of my mid premiums this year (Scott Thompson has worked out thus far), but had Hayes as a mid-priced option which made it all better. Ebert would've been even nicer in a 2/2 structure, so while the super-premiums definitely are key to start with as they're too hard to trade in, one has got to keep an open mind to a mid-priced pick as the only thing worse than starting with a dud mid-pricer is trading one in. Such as...

He cost me the trade I need right now in defence, taking a punt on Ablett -> Ziebell after Ziebell's first 2 games... never again with Ziebell, and never again will I trade in a mid-pricer. Better to wait for a premium to drop like we've seen plenty of lately - Carrazzo, Sylvia, Fyfe, and this week Stevie J have all been no-brainer pickups - if you saved the trades.

Colliwobblers

chapman and franklin have finally conspired to cost me a donut! first one for the season outside of the bye rounds!

only chance to avoid it is adams being a late inclusion... unlikely as he is injured too :(
