Hi everyone, I really like the look of both of them. What are our thoughts??

Torpedo10

Christensen. Will get more games and more of a role in the Midfield.

Played a great finals series but has far too many point stealers in his side for SC.

Selwood, Bartel, Chappy, Enright, Wojo, Kelly, Corey, Johnson & Pods.

I went for Varcoe instead

How can you say too many point stealers then point out somebody in the same side. Wojo is not a big SC scorer and neither is Pods or Kelly to a extent

Christensen wont start as the sub next year you wouldnt think which will increase his average and he will probably play more in the midfield and get more game time.

As for Smedts everybody at geelong is talking up his pre season and they rate him high so he would have to get a shot in the opening few rounds the question is will he stay in there. Also his MPP makes him a good combination with tomlinson

He's in my team at the moment. Wait and see Pre season form. Mpp with Tomlinson

Yeah same Great cover for the bye rounds just hope he can average 60 +

I work with Billie's brother from time to time, who told me he was flying on the track before christmas 2010 in preseason before doing his back, coaches were really happy with him so definately think he is one to snap up this season.

I thought the idea of picking a mid pricer over 300k was generally with a view to holding him all year.

Last season I started Grimes, Boak, Yarran expressly 'cause i thought they'd be keepers or at least stack on 25 points onto their average. Only Yarran achieved this - most seasons i find the mid pricer over 300k so hit and miss - Christensen as a second year player will have plenty of competition from the likes of Chappy, Varcoe, Byrnes, Stokes and Duncan. He is unlikely to score too much mid time with Selwood, Bartel, Kelly, StevieJ, Enright (agree with Bowyanger 100%).

With all this small/mid size arsenal i their squad cant see him improving much past 75 points per game. Not a keeper - not a likely huge improver either!

nichsa673

No disrespect, but I competely disagree with you. He often went into the middle this year and was awesome. Excluding his sub games this year, he nearly averaged 90, so to say he will average around 75 is wrong. Having the like of Bartel, Kelly, Selwood in the middle is good for him, as they get the ball out to him.

Also no disrespect lozza but i entirely disagree also in the last 8 or 9 games he played not incuding when he was the sub he averaged around 90 and even scored 66 as the sub, with al other players like bartel etc he wont cop any attention and this will be his 3rd year on the list. personally i think the "2nd year blues" is a bit of a myth i mean look how well fyfe did last year

lozza63

Disrepect? - hell lads we are just discussing potential improvement of footy players - lol - none taken at all - in fact i love the discussion and you can always turn me into a believer provided your arguments are sufficiently compelling. Really thanks for engaging the discussion - honestly.

The kid scored 4 SC tons fair enough - but the wealth of talent in that Cat side is enough for me to be really really wary.

Another 20 games averaging 80 - then yeah i'm interested - it's just not enough to go on here yet.

Martin and Fyfe are the exception rather than the rule and both these kids are near best and fairests at their team - Christensen simply aint that YET for mine.

Go for him lads  - he'll no doubt prove me wrong and i'll be extolling his virtues all too late!!  At least i cant say i wasnt warned!

You make some good points. By no means is Christensen a lock but in order to win supercoach or do extremely well you have to have a few "uncommon players" that not many people fancy and i think he would improve his average to 90 + . I have seen some of your other post Lozza and seen that you dont fancy mid pricers this season, fair enough the majority of them do bust or average about the same as the last season or show minimal improvement but christensen is a bit different will be his 3rd year on the list was the sub at least 4 times last year and scored low in his opening few games but in the 2nd half of the season in all games he was not sub he averaged about 90. So yeah just my 2 cents there he is in my side at the moment but is definitely not locked in by any means

Colliwobblers

i have both, smedts is an absolute lock as long as he goes well enough in nab cup and is listed as a starter round 1.
Christensen is also in my team and will stay there unless something significant happens to change my mind, in the cats season review he is listed as frontrunner for the next big thing at the club, he will play midfield and he knows where the goals are can take a contested mark and has speed and finds room, its a risk but one im planning on taking at this early stage.
