IM not a fan of the top coach thing i think in the worlds it would be a good idea to split into 4 regions and than voting is viable. For my euro tournament im having it in 2 and 7 teams each and we need to fill a team of 22 each round and im thinking each team can nominate a maximum of 4 haven't decided yet ( i was thinking you must nominate at least 1 forward mid and back).

I think there should be some sought of rule that puts the obvious picks in example the top 4 averaging backs and forwards and 3 mids that get put through and the top averaging ruck. Than people vote on the remaining 3 backs, 3 mids, 1 ruck and 3 forwards.

Still tweaking it.

If it were me i would do the 4 teams and have each team nominate 6 players in the 5 euro and Americas so only 8 players don't make it. and 7 players in the 4 team divisions so 6 don't make it.

To make it fun you want all teams to be represented.

Hoping to do this in our "bye" round across rounds 12 and 13.

Of course, the two highest ranked coaches (on total points scored) will get to choose whoever they want (those are currently CrowsFan... and well, me! (having just realised that now)).

Going with the split as listed, if the teams were made up on current averages, it would be:

EurAsia:

D: B Deledio (Seoul), H Shaw (Moscow), S Thompson (Dublin), M Suckling (Tokyo)

M: B Stanton (London), S Selwood (Tokyo), R Griffen (Seoul), T Rockliff (New Delhi)

R: N Naitanui (Moscow)

F: S Sidebottom (Beijing), L Franklin (Berlin), P Dangerfield (Seoul), K Tippett (Tokyo)

I: C Ward (Dublin), L Shuey (Tokyo)

AAP Alliance

D: B Goddard (Mexico City), A Rance (Wellington), H Scotland (Buenos Aires), G Birchall (New York)

M: G Ablett (Sao Paulo), JP Kennedy (Cape Town), S Thompson (Wellington), S Pendlebury (Toronto)

R: A Sandilands (Mexico City)

F: A Goodes (Mexico City), J Lewis (Mexico City), S Crameri (Buenos Airs), J Roughead (Sao Paulo)

I: J Watson (Cape Town), J Selwood (Cape Town)

The midfield for the AAP Alliance is scary, while the EurAsia team have a big advantage in the forward line.

Should we look to implement a rule whereby you have to have at least one player from each team from your region? Otherwise for teams like myself, the game seems pointless. No offence.

Not a huge fan of that sorry c4 :( Think that representative matches should be the best of the best, and a reward for good seasons. If players/coaches haven't reached that level, they can strive for it next year.

Maybe we should have friendlies during the week between teams? But players selected in the Representative matches can't play!

If AAP Have only Goodes missing and Sandi plays they SHOULD win.

CrowsFan

They will win with me in charge no matter what the squad I pick :P

Haha anyway I seriously reckon Mexico will have scored more points than me by then so maca will be in charge ;)

A thought has just occurred to me in order to give more coaches a chance to be involved.

Alongside the EurAsia v AAP Alliance match, why don't we hold our own version of State of Origin?

Teams would include:

  • VIC (split into Metro and Country due to the large numbers)
  • SA
  • WA
  • NSW/ACT/TAS
  • QLD/NT
  • Aboriginal
  • International (any player with international heritage)

Now, here's my take on what the teams could look like:

VIC Metro

DEF: Heath Shaw, Heath Scotland, Dustin Fletcher, Bachar Houli
MID: Brent Stanton, Josh P. Kennedy, Jobe Watson, Chris Judd
FWD: David Zaharakis, Luke Power, Tom Hawkins, Travis Cloke
RUC: Ivan Maric

INT: Trent Cotchin, Rory Sloane

VIC Country

DEF: Brett Deledio, Brendon Goddard, Scott D. Thompson, Troy Chaplin
MID: Gary Ablett, Scott Pendlebury, Joel Selwood, Scott Selwood
FWD: Patrick Dangerfield, Steele Sidebottom, Jordan Lewis, Jarryd Roughead
RUC: Hamish McIntosh

INT: Matthew Boyd, Daniel Cross

South Australia

DEF: Beau Waters, Shannon Hurn, Corey Enright, Sam Fisher
MID: Scott Thompson, Ryan Griffen, Brad Ebert, Jack Redden
FWD: Matthew Pavlich, Chad Cornes, Justin Westhoff, Angus Monfries
RUC: Sam Jacobs

INT: Hamish Harlett, Will Minson

Western Australia

DEF: Alex Rance, Paul Duffield, Greg Broughton, Harry Taylor
MID: Andrew Swallow, Matthew Priddis, Simon Black, Jared Brennan
FWD: Clancee Pearce, Mitchell Clark, Justin Sherman, Chris Mayne
RUC: Aaron Sandilands

INT: Dean Cox, Dominic Cassisi

Queensland / Northern Territory

DEF: Daniel Merrett, Josh Drummond, Sam Gilbert, Karmichael Hunt
MID: Dayne Beams, Andrew Raines, David Armitage, Curtly Hampton
FWD: Kurt Tippett, Nick Riewoldt, Brendan Whitecross, Cyril Rioli
RUC: David Hale

INT: Brent Renouf, Shaun Hampson

New South Wales / ACT / Tasmania

DEF: Matthew Suckling, Grant Birchall, Colin Garland, Jacob Surjan
MID: Lenny Hayes, Sam Iles, Kieran Jack, Jarrad McVeigh
FWD: Taylor Walker, Mitch Robinson, Jack Riewoldt, Jeremy Howe
RUC: Tom Bellchambers

INT: Craig Bird, Sam Lonergan

Aboriginal

DEF: Shaun Burgoyne, Michael Johnson, Courtney Dempsey, Chris Yarran
MID: Daniel Wells, Harley Bennell, Lewis Jetta, Danyle Pearce
FWD: Lance Franklin, Allen Christensen, Andrew Walker, Leroy Jetta
RUC: Patrick Ryder

INT: Lindsay Thomas, Ashley McGrath

International

DEF: Brent Guerra, Pearce Hanley, Michael Firrito, Marty Clarke
MID: Nick Dal Santo, Leigh Montagna, Nathan van Berlo, Tendai Mzungu
FWD: Luke Dahlhaus, Dustin Martin, James Podsiadly, Jason Porplyzia
RUC: Nic Naitanui

INT: Adam Cooney, Matthew Kruezer

8 teams, 16 coaches (2 per team, chosen at random).

The fixtures would also be random but I think that I would seperate them into two pools of (VICM, VICC, SA, WA) and (NSW/ACT/TAS, QLD/NT, ABOR, INT) just to make it more interesting.

Thoughts? I reckon this, alongside the EUR v AAP match is the best way to go instead of holding friendlies as it involves everyone and it works!

The only problem I can foresee is the obvious problems with the Aboriginal and International team selections. Like for example, Harley Bennell could be selected to Western Australia or the Aborginal team and similarly for Brett Deledio who could be picked for the International team or Vic Country. In order to correct this, I'm thinking we would let the Aboriginal team pick first, then the International team, then the rest. Fair?

Also, obviously the EUR and AAP teams would pick first then these teams.

Wouldn't Nick Riewoldt be in the tassie team since that's where he was born?

It seems you're right. Obviously the lists I used were wrong. That's annoying.

c4, you deserve a cheer from everyone involved in WXV for coming up with this, great idea.  :)

Holz

The WA team got really weakened from the inclusion of the aboriginal team as alot of the squad is made up of WA players.

c4v3m4n

QLD/NT is probably the weakest, due to the fact that they only have 4 playing midfielders  :-\

But what are ppl's thoughts? Yay, nay?
