Brisbanes Draft Picks and overall would give us 8.5/9 out of 10 for selections based on who was available at the time and can not really argue against that. Pleased that we have added a couple of running defenders in Docherty and Yeo to our list.
8. Billy Longer
12. Sam Docherty
30. Elliott Yeo
47 Patrick Weardon
69. Mitch Golby (Rookie Upgrade)

One could probably argue Tomlinson over Longer but right decision made there given our current Ruck situation
Docherty had to take him while he was available over Adams and Kavanagh
Yeo interesting at 30 when Kersten, Hill, Talia and Lockyer available but happy with choice.
Weardon would appear to be best at pick 47 although do not know too much about him.

Only problem now is my SC team becomes heavy with Brisbane rookies as both Docherty and Longer are in my current provisional team when added to Zorko.

and this comment from Rob Kerr probably sums it up

“We’ve done probably better than we thought we would.”

I liked Adams over Docherty, but Docherty still a great pick.

Brisbane did very well.

Have to agree with that, I would have gone Adams over Docherty as well but still a great draft by Brisbane.  You must be stoked that Longer dropped to 8

Ringo

To be honest Valk did not expect to have Longer at eight and even voted that way but was stoked when I saw Tomlinson at 9 as it only meant we had Longer. Do you think GWS have got their sights set on an out of contract ruck for the end of next season as that is the only reason I can see for them not selecting Longer.  in their first 6.  Admiitedly they have cover this year with Brogan and Giles.

Probably a line ball decision between Docherty and Adams but pleased with Docherty as it strengthens our running back division. Maybe will even allow McGrath to go forward where I think he is better suited.

And that is why I dont like the 10 - 1 countdown.  You know what the picks are going to be.  Could be a good future ruck combo for the lions with Luey/Longer

Centurions

Im do not much about Elliot Yeo and Patrick Weardon but i would have preferred a kpp such as michael talia (30) or jackson paine(47)

Cent, Am happy with Yeo based on this and speculation he would gave gone in top 20 being the standout at the combined draft so happy to get him.

"Elliott Yeo was a standout at the NAB AFL Draft Combine, being the quickest in the agility run (7.8 seconds), having the best standing vertical jump with a score of 78cm and running 2.91 seconds for the 20m sprint, showcasing his athletic ability."

May develop into a Patfull like player who can take the 3rd forward because of his marking and leaping prowess.

Weardon is a Tall forward at 191cm and will be a development player need to hit the weights etc with only a 75kg frame.

Centurions

Well we better hope Longer can go forward as well because he plays almost exactly the same as Leunberger and i would have thought a key position back was a real area we needed to focus on

pothead

yeah longer will be able to rotate forward and should be pretty handy up there aswell he has good mits and a good kick which will help him

Isn't that why we recruited Lisle or whoever it was? Was it Lisle?

To play as a key back in Staker's place?

They don't need to be good forwards, just stand there to decoy defenders from Brown.

gg. Lions 2012 premiers.

Well said Nails.  I agree Lisle should slot into Stakers place and that is why I think we did that trade.  As I have said we have reinforced our defence with both Yeo and Docherty. Do not think we needed a KPP Back with Merrett, Drummond, Patfull, Adcock and Hanley there and of these Merrett is the oldest at 28 so time on our hands. Lester can also play as a tall defender. Longer will provide a target up forward and with Karnezis continuing development and Cornelius starting to show some form we will have some additional talls up forward as targets with Zorko, Banfield and maybe McGrath as small crumbing forwards.
Lot of upside to our list.

im expecting Brisbane to make the eight this year

and their work off the field this season should help them

Sorry Ringo

I think Brisbane will be in the mix for the 8 but just miss out.  Yes, the Eagles did it but they had a lot of senior guys step up where as Brisbane dont have that (Black, Brown is about it).

Not including GWS/Suns (because they got all the best youngsters over the last 2 years) I think Brisbane has the second best youngsters behind Freo (maybe a little biased)

Black, Brown, Hudson (new guy to step up), Matt Maguire - former team captain, could be a great leader if he steps up, Merrett if he remains injury free, Patfull (only just counts) and Ash McGrath

And Drummond.

That's enough seniors for mine.
