The Eagles senior players are better

You have both forgotten Adcock as a Senior Player who would hold his own against Glass and I think Patful is vastly under rated as a defender.

Will revisit this post at the end of the year and see whos right when the Lions make the 8.

You cant compare Adcock to Glass - Adcock is a rebounding defender (when he is not injured) where as Glass is an AA full back and 2010 was the first year he missed a block of games since 2005.  Adcock has only played 4 full seasons out of 8 that he has played.

You have to compare Glass to Merrett and Glass still wins IMO.

IMO Merrett was on his way to AA Selection this year prior to injury.  Best I had seen him play. Still maybe a bit to make up on Glass but would hold his own.

Anyway agree with you we both have good youngsters coming through and our 3rd and 4th year players are starting to stand up.

Ringo - what are your thoughts on Docherty?  Do you think he will play round 1?

A lot will depend on pre season and if we have any injuries.

I see our best back six as:
Drummond, Merrett, Patful
Hanley, Adcock, Lisle

Fighting for positions also are the likes of Hawksley; Lester, Docherty as well as our backfiring trades of Maguire and Raines. Mckeever is still rookie listed and we have elevated Mitch Golby to Senior list and both are also backs. Also added to the equation is another draftee Elliott Yeo also a back man. Backs Looking good going forward with good depth.

So basically I am saying without injuries, loss of form or exceptional form being shown by Docherty pre season can not see him getting early games.  Maybe a down grade target later on. One possible POD to rationale is if Lisle is used up front creating vacancy down back.

raines is played predominantly as a stopper in the midfield not as a backman and i think maguire is still in our best 6

You have to compare Glass to Merrett and Glass still wins IMO.

Merrett wins because he is almost as good a stopper as Glass, but he has an attacking side to his game, which Glass does not. Would have been AA if he didn't get injured.
