probably whatever scullys getting + the combined salary's of power, brogan and cornes (since they'll probs retire this year :P )

i.e. considerably more than the pies can afford with their salary cap :P

they'll need a lot more than that to drag pendles away.

pendlebury is the best and most consistent player in the comp in my opinion.

Come on guys. Do all the comparisons you like. Pendles doesn't hold a candle to Gablett, at any age. If Pendles played for GC he wouldn't get a kick. He's highly skilled and a quick thinker, but I don't reckon he gets down and dirty like Gaz. I think he under performed in the finals, and thats when champions shine. Did anybody else notice that Scotty didn't bother to put a hard tag on him. He's a great player, but is he more important to Collingwood than Daisy or Cloke or Swanny or even Heater or Reid?

Each of those players has their own important role so you can't compare them but he is more important than Swan. He is more important than Thomas. He is more important than Heater and Reid. He was the only player who played well in the Grand Final and he does win a lot of his own ball.

Contested Possessions: GAJ - 11.5  SP - 9.4
Uncontested Possesions: GAJ - 20.3  SP - 17.2

so their CP:UP and their disposal efficiency were both 75% so they are pretty much identical in 2010 when they both played in similar strength midfields respectively. And these figures were achieved with GAJ playing 110mins a game and Pendles playing 94mins a game. Pendles had one less clearance a game than GAJ but also had one extra tackle a game. GAJ wins in the goals kicked category though. However as pointed out here, Pendlebury still has more time and potential to improve and peak, whereas GAJ has peaked.

Geez Wes, I bow to your logic. I would point out though, that when Gablet started playing he was in a very ordinary team. Pendles has always had champions along side him.
As a wise man once said, "There are lies, damn lies. and statistics."
We could debate this forever. To be honest I thought I would get a bite from some of the Magpie supporters. I don't doubt Pendles credentials as a star player for an instant, he was a good player on my DT last season. If he doesn't re-new his contract during next season with the Pies, he's off to GWS for sure.
He probably wouldn't be captain, but he will be expected to adopt a leadership role. I'm sure he'll cope.

Christensen's stats are better than Ablett's at the same age/games played. I'm sure you'll find a lot of players who start their career better than Gazza statistically. He does things that others are incapable of though, and it will only show up as just another handball or kick. Ablett is EASILY the best midfielder in the game still.

Swan > Shaw > Pendlebury.
Pendles is a great player, but he has  a couple of deficiencies that the Collingwood supporters can't see out of their eye. He is not a great kick over distance, and rarely hits a forward 50 target if he attempts to kick it more than 30 metres to them. It's no coincidence that Pendlebury has stepped up once Luke Ball joined the midfield. Ball doesn't get the numbers of Swan, Thomas and Pendles, but he does soooooo much work.
Heater shouldn't be compared to mids, but he is almost Collingwood's best player. He NEVER loses a one on one contest. You simply will not see him get outmarked. He kicks long and accurately mostly, and makes Maxwell look like he knows what he is doing. For such a stupid human being he is smart on the field.
