I say Warner shouldn't be playing Test match cricket. It's not for him, he doesn't play that way, and if Australia think they are going to get a Brendan McCullum or Virendar Sehwag out of him they are wrong.

Also, it doesn't matter whether it his first test or his 101st, he is playing for his country and there is no excuse as to why he shouldn't be playing well. I find all this "It's his first test, he's nervous" talk as rubbish, coz he has been chosen in their Best XI so unless the whole team fails (e.g. South Africa first test) there is no excuse.
So there is no excuse for any player playing for their country to not make a score in any given innings?
Pretty much, unles you know the totally random happens or the ump makes a howler and you have no reviews left. Works the same for bowlers too.
Bear in mind thugh i did say that if the whole team has a downer then you can sort of be forgiven, as the other 10 players did just as bad.

I don't think Warner had an excuse today, he got out to the short ball right??
and? anybody can make a mistake early in their innings and lose their wicket for it, doesn't mean they should instantly lose their spot in the side :-X
Well now it's too late isn't it?? He should never has got his spot.

The Baggy Green does not deserve to be handed out to everybody who shows promise, it should only go to those that deserve it. Australia have been handing out too many caps lately, the last 25 have come in 3 years, while the 25 before that took forever.

I believe they should install a 3 test policy. Play three straight tests, than either get dropped or keep playing. Will cut all this crap of it's his first test because if you don't make a 50 in six innings you shouldn't be playing.
Not a bad idea but agreeing with sort of condradicts my previous comment.

at the moment, since the side sucks, yes we should be blooding players who show promise, the reason the 25 before that took so long was that the side during that time was near unbeatable, so there was no reason to blood new players

Because he is the country Cic.

Plus, Ricky Ponting deserves to play one more time against Sachin Tendulkar, just so Tendulkar can tell him again why the Little Master is better. :P

As I've said before

The reason the Australian side hasn't shown as much improvement as wanted IMO is due to the selectors.

ATM bar two or three players who will retire soon. The current team playing NZ is the team the selectors HAVE to stick by.

If they keep throwing players in and out the whole team chemistry is lost and they won't find a combination of bowlers/batters that simply destroy tests. See Haddin, Hussey and Ponting eventually get replaced by Paine, Marsh and Watson and if they stick with that team it can only go up.

If they truely stick with the bowlers I think all of them have the potential from being in the World XI. (bar siddle  :-X)

I just hope the selectors don't randomly drop them

Oh yeah and Cummins to replace Siddle

Here here.

Very good points Mails. I agree with every single one of them. (but Ponting, Hussey need to stay until they retire ;) )

TheMailman

Yeah thats what I meant  :P
I just have bad sentence structure

Ringo

My real concern with Australia Cricket is players stepping up to the plate when given opportunities.  Take the Australia A game against New Zealand the only players who shone were Ed Cowan and Matthew Wade. Wade is the logical replacement for Haddin. Bowlers did not take the opportunity although Allan Border field is traditionally a batsmens paradise.

The other concern I have is the injury level of our players especially bowlers.  Are they over training or is there too much cricket for them without adequate rest between games.  We seen another example of this yesterday when Cutting who was released after being 12th man for the test suffered a side strain and will not bowl again in the match against Victoria.

It is easier to get in the Test side if you play for NSW, They are starting to talk up Kurtis Pattinson after one innings.

PONTING   :'(

At least he did well overall and deserves his spot against India. Hopefully Clark and Hussey can both score 70+ each

c4v3m4n

Reece Young drops a sitter! Clarke survives again!!  :o

Also, Hussey out very next ball for 15.  :(

Aus 5/237, 58 runs still required.

TheMailman

Wasn't really a sitter

The ball moved away late but Clarke was still lucky  :P

DONT GET OUT HADDIN JKHDKAHAKODJKDJHKK

PowerBug

Clarke 99 through lunch.

Just got his hundred then with a boundary. Clarke 103*, great captains knock. that is 17 test hundreds for Clarke.

c4v3m4n

3 centuries in his past four matches too. It's also his first century as captain at home.  :)

Good on ya Clarke.

Plus new ball taken.

TheMailman

Dropped again!  ;D

Poor Bracewell

deserves to be angry now

Master Q

13 runs short of NZ's total. Haddin needs to stick with Clarke and we can build a strong lead.
