Arthur, who guided the Proteas to No.1 in all three forms of the game during his five-year tenure of his native South Africa, becomes the first foreigner to coach Australia.

The 43-year-old took over the Warriors at the start of the 2010-11 season. He will be replaced by assistant coach Lachlan Stevens, with bowling coach Adam Griffith to be his deputy.

Stevens will also take over as coach of Big Bash franchise Perth Scorchers.

Arthur has been contracted until the end of the 2015 World Cup, which will be staged in Australia and New Zealand.

Not meaning to knock Mickey Arthur but does this mean that WA cricket is a 'basket case' because Arthur was supposed to be the coach to turn things around for WA cricket??  ???

Also, Graeme Wood quit as WACA CEO earlier this year too ...

Cicjose

the WACA planned for Arthur to be selected as coach

It means the WACA had it right.  Arther, Inverarity and Marsh all appointed to CA roles.  Ok, Marsh wasn't actively part of the WA scene but the other 2 were.

If i could've picked anyone it would be Ian Chappell. Obviously he wasn't available.

Cicjose

Yes i am actually. I believe he'll make those Aussies toughen up and ge them off the TV screen, no party boy stuff, and on the cricket pitch practising.

Chappelli is in trouble for comments he has made against india.... do you want him to coach australia with india coming to australia for the summer??????

I think Ian would be the worst selection for Australia.  He obviously has a problem with CA, has a temper which he is not afraid to let loose (Adelaide Oval 2010) and (to me) seems like the kinda bloke that plays favourites (boys club)

#12
we need youngsters simple as that but here is the team i would select if a test match was to be played in australia tommorrow

Hughes
Watson
Khawaja
Cooper
Warner
Henriques
Wade
Cutting
Cummins
Lyon
Hilfenhaus
Starc

12th man
M Marsh

PowerBug

I'd do this:

Watson
Hughes
Ponting
Hussey
Clarke
Ferguson
Haddin
Lyon
Cummins
Copeland
(Another fast bowler)

12th man: Don't really care.

The experience has to stay.

Cicjose

no it doesn't that is why we have been so poor for the last 5 years
