Planning for the BYES...

Just wondering people's thoughts on how they may be setting up their team? With the 3 rounds of byes i'm finding it very tough to try and compile a team that: a) you are happy with b) will be competitive and c) won't involve much trading due to your decision now!
So my thoughts were that much can happen between Round 1 and Round 11 and i'm thinking it may be better to worry about this more from say round 6ish when considering our downgrade options that can be used for cover - your thoughts??

I'm going to wait and see how SC/DT adjust their rules for it. If we're lucky, huge planning my not be necessary.

Atm, I'm just throwing together multiple teams with different mixes of players- I have a favourite one, that I think is really good, but if that shouldn't work I have many decent enough backups.

It's really annoying though.

Agree with Zip here, i'll be waiting till the rules are sorted and mpp's have been assigned or removed before i start building a side.

On average you will have 10 players per round with a bye. DPP or non DPP will be irrelevant, you will not get away without donuts, lots of them, in fact probably close to 22 in 3 rounds, just like everyone else. Unless they do some Major rule change, which is very unlikely, dont pick a team with this in mind, there are another 20 rounds to be played.

Agree with both Zip and Grazz in that we need to await the rules before panicking.  However agree with comments that they will be virtually unworkable unless concessions are given or rules changed for bye rounds.

reckon they will keep to 16 teams - 15 league matches and 4 finals (top eight/bottom eight). which means the 3 bye rounds will be non-league, but probably still counting to overall [this is what they did with the multi-bye rounds in 2011]. therefore i think they will not have any 'special' bye rules, everyone for themselves - if going for overall. plan your team and trades accordingly.

Just awaiting the rules before deciding especially with overall.  It is virtually impossible to field full teams for the three bye rounds based on current criteria if going for overall. My Team ATM has 8 out in Round 11, 7 out in round 12 and 12 out in Round 13 with a further 3 rookies to be added when drafted.  So you can see why i say impossible.  Even with even spread you would be looking at 10 per week which leaves 20 available players.

Surely they need to bring something for these rounds, otherwise its a bit of a fast. maybe for those weeks they could make it that only a certain number of players count like say 15?!

So you nominate those players before each bye round. Who knows they might just say those rounds dont count but thats unlikely because then people arnt logging on looking at all the bullshower advertising. ;)

Couldnt of expressed the issues better, hence i'll wait for all to be written in stone before building a team. I have a vague idea of who i want already but how i make it work for rnd's 11 12 13 is a mystery still. I hope the 18 teams per league is revoked and we stay at 16 per league that will help sought it a bit but overall is still so much up in the air.

yep waiting for how it works,hopefully there will be a 15 round season + 4 weeks finals,meaning we dont play rounds 11-13 & round 23,which is nothing short of a joke with teams resting half their best players,only alternative is that we play 23 but not 1 but geez i know which id prefer,17 round home & away means we play all the bye rounds i guess & maybe miss either 1 & 2,or if sanity prevails 1 & 23,will have to wait for it all to come out soon i guess

holy shower I only just looked at the bye schedule for the first time then...very scary stuff.

1) Impossible to plan a team around and avoid
2) Would hate for these rounds to count towards overall because the scores are going to be miserable
3) I hate the AFL

Yes waiting to see the rules for overall - Something has to give has you would be looking at 2 - 3 do nuts for each of the three weeks.

Been hearing rumours from those that have a bit of inside info that we may well only be using between 15 to 18 players in those 3 weeks not the standard 22 on the ground.
