ESSENDON is confident injury-plagued key forward Scott Gumbleton's hamstring problems are over after back surgery on Thursday.

Coach James Hird told SEN on Friday that Gumbleton, 23, feared his career might be over after suffering back spasms last week, but the surgery had revealed the reason for his chronic soreness.

Hird said scar tissue from an old operation had trapped a nerve in Gumbleton's back.

"The surgeon has guaranteed him he'll have none of those hamstring issues next year."

Boomz

He'll start having foot problems now.

Lets hope this will solve everything, he could end up being the key link... We need him.

Cicjose

i doubt that

Gumby has done very little for someone who has been in the system for 6 season

Fletch74

He was drafted very high... The Bombers have kept him on their list... Why?

Because they rate him! He's done little because he's been injured. If this solves the issue, then he could show why he was drafted so high...

I would be very careful to dismiss him...

Boomz

Fletch is right he has the talent its just the injuries. I can't see this solving everything though...

Ziplock

He has the talent to pick up the injuries?

trust me, I know the feeling :P

I picked up a strained calf on tuesday stretching...
