Hey guys.
Decided I want to buy a new camera since I am going to Nepal on Saturday and would be crazy not to take a camera. I haven't had a camera since my last trip overseas when I broke it haha.
Anyway need some help deciding what to get cos I have no idea what is good in a camera except for lots of megapixels ::)
So if any of you are camera savy could you please help me out and tell me what would be a good camera to get. Price limit of $250 though ;)
Obviously good at taking landscape shots would be a bonus :D

Ziplock

look, I went to dicksmith before I did my Middle east/ Eurotrip and picked up a nice little camera with (14?) megapixels for a little over 100 bucks. It got the job done, and it's a nice little camera. Pretty sturdy as well, survived 3 months with me anyway. Just get something like that- should seeya through.

Marcz or Roost (and probably a few others) are the men to ask :).

CrowsFan

Yeah might send them a PM to give me some advise HP ;)

Thanks zip that was the type of camera I used to have, but wasn't very good with landscape shots and considering I will be in the Himalayas probably good thing to have ;)

Marcz is the man you want to speak to, i'd be dropping him a PM and telling him what your doing and what youd like it to do etc,
Megapixels isnt the be all and end all any more in a digital camera, other aspects built into it can give you better shots than just buying a camera that has the most mp's, i may be wrong but im sure i read that on one of the sights i went to before i bought my digital SLR. Marcz will point you in the right direction for sure.

Edit- yeh Roost is another thats into his photography.

CrowsFan

Yeah grazz as I said I don't know much.
Hopefully one of them comes on before tomorrow arvo :)
I assume marcz is at the pizza shop at the moment so might be on later tonight...

Grazz

Wish i could help you mate but marcz would of forgotten more than i know about them really. How much are you looking at spending.

SA schoolies week here means Marcz is at the epicentre of teen frivolity. Victor Harbour this week becomes like the Gold Coast for teen celebration, he will be getting caned. I'll PM you some stuff Marcz and I have chatted about.
Sorry I wasn't on tonight, been to talking to my neighbour - what I learnt in that conversation itself could turn into a hundred page thread  :o

Nothing wrong with a Sony Cyber shot to begin with but if you want an SLR read the PM's  ;)

CrowsFan

No need to apologise for not being around roost, you responded within an hour anyway so couldn't really expect any more ;)

Is it even possible to get an SLR for less than $250, $300 the max?

hawk_88

Megapixels is a poor measure of the quality of a camera.

My mate had one of these. Really good quality for what you pay.

Isn't it amazing that this is where it all started back in 1975!  :o

Quote from: Steve Sasson, inventor of the digital cameraIt had a lens that we took from a used parts bin from the Super 8 movie camera production line downstairs from our little lab on the second floor in Bldg 4.  On the side of our portable contraption, we shoehorned in a portable digital cassette instrumentation recorder.  Add to that 16 nickel cadmium batteries, a highly temperamental new type of CCD imaging area array, an a/d converter implementation stolen from a digital voltmeter application, several dozen digital and analog circuits all wired together on approximately half a dozen circuit boards, and there you have the world's first all-digital camera.

Since the camera had no screen to view the photos like today's cameras, this is the machine they built to see the images...  :o

Ah that's good,  glad Rooster caught up with you, your in good hands now. Ive been going through the trash digging out the

catalogues we got this week but couldn't find the ones i wanted. I know Dick Smith and JB Hi-Fi have some on sale at the moment

around the price your looking at. When you can id invest in a decent Digital SLR for around $600-$700 you can get the Canon Eos

with a couple of lenses which is a pretty decent place to start and you'll really appreciate it. I know it may sound a little pricey but

if your going to be doing alot of travelling etc it would be worth the investment. Anyway Rooster and Marcz will help you out with

all of this. Have a great holiday Nepal is on my bucket list so i'm a bit envious.
