Not really. I believe we do evolve to an extent although don't believe we've evolved from like tiny particles out of pure chance. But this is a timeless question which can be discussed about 'til death so no point really.

fair point HP, I'm on your side on this one, don't believe we've evolved from like tiny particles out of pure chance  ;)

if it's for a religious reason, evolution and god aren't necessarily mutually exclusive.

God is by definition an all knowing, all powerful being. So it's perfectly plausible that he created the process of evolution.

Bam, done and dusted :P

the Catholic Church supports that logic anyway lol, I dunno about other denominations/ religions though.

ok then bb. Go prove that then. I dare you to use your pinky finger an inordinate amount of time, and see if it ends up growing any longer/ your children end up with freaky pinky fingers.

Personally I am a big believer in Science in general but its too big a topic for definitive answers

What I don't like is people acting as if evolution is a piece a rubbish  >:(

Otherwuse its cool and try and keep it on topic guys  8)

Ziplock

pretty much, I really hate it when people just completely discount it.

TheMailman

I noticed there was a bit of mixed opinion about this topic and I was wondering whether people wanted to discuss how they feel about it.

Note please remember people have different beliefs and you should respect that whether you are christian, muslim, islamic etc.

If I'm breaking any rules by posting this than oops

Ziplock

oh man, do not want to go into this, but I guess I will anyway.

Personally, I'm a strong supporter of evolution. I'm also a relatively devout Christian, and I don't see how evolution and God should be, as I said in a previous post, mutually exclusive. My belief in genesis, and the majority of the old testament, is that they are stories there to teach us values and lessons, no necessarily word for word precise accounts of what happened.

this is a version of a joke I once heard that I found highly amusing, and... kind of relevant in this discussion. :P

haha :P

I agree with you totally that evolution and a god are not mutually exclusive events, and there is no reason why you can't think like that. Albert Einstein believed in a god, whom he believed created the universe, with all the laws of physics and whatnot, and let it go from there.

I love it. Do The Evolution was like Pearl Jam's greatest song :P

There is only one Evolution :P

Evolution is a mystery
A small change that no one sees
Clock makes a fool of history
Yesterday's so long ago
don't agree with what I know
Tomorrow becomes a place to be
I see the line in the sand
Time to find out who I am
Looking back to see where I stand
EVOLUTION... EVOLUTION...
See my reflection change
Nothing ever stays the same
But you know the name's the game
We all know what it means
Nothings ever what it seems
Unforgiven... Unforseen...
I see the line in the sand
Time to find out who I am
Looking back to see where I stand
EVOLUTION... EVOULTION

A fascinating issue none the less.

This is a great TED talk on some scientists who are exploring the step from matter to biology. Not just interesting from a philosophical perspective, but the practical applications of the work are incredible.
