How's this for deciding the WXV's version of the "Brownlow" (which I don't think we've decided on a name, but I think the Jim Stynes medal was favourite...)

I love the Brownlow (go Swanny! Pendles 2012) but it does tend to heavily favour midfield. And in WXV in particular, it is definitely not just a midfielders game!

So, probably easiest way to explain it would be this:

The might Seoul Magpies take on the Berlin Brewers, with some randomly generated scores. We group the 15 players each into three groups

The groups:
Seoul's 4 backmen + 1 interchange versus Berlin's 4 forwards + 1 interchange
Seoul's 4 midfielders + 1 ruck versus Berlin's 4 midfielders + 1 ruck
Seoul's 4 forwards + 1 interchange versus Berlin's 4 forwards + 1 interchange

Note: Captains bonus doesn't come into this :)

   Seoul
B1   Gibbs   98
B2   Yarran   58
B3   O'Brien   65
B4   Ellis   93
I1   Ballantyne   100
   Total   414

M1   Trengove   69
M2   Scully   108
M3   Kelly   53
M4   Power   94
R1   McEvoy   53
   Total   377

F1   Kreuzer   108
F2   Sidebottom   76
F3   Dawes   89
F4   Steven   75
I2   Bolton   115
   Total   463

   Berlin
F1   Franklin   52
F2   Stokes   112
F3   Butcher   87
F4   Howe   77
I1   Renouf   109
   Total   437

M1   Griffen   51
M2   Wells   119
M3   Moloney   93
M4   Ball   53
R1   Jamar   51
   Total   367

B1   Broughton   114
B2   Duffield   76
B3   Otten   81
B4   Hibberd   71
I2   Garland   75
   Total   417

So we compare totals....

   Seoul   v   Berlin
Seoul's defenders (414) lost to Berlin's forward (437) by 23 points
Seoul's midfield (377) defeated Berlin's midfield (367) by 10 points
Seoul's forwards (463) defeated Berlin's defenders (417) by 46 points

The highest difference is Seoul's forwards defeating Berlin's defenders. We then look at the Seoul's forwards and see JUDE BOLTON is the highest scorer. So he gets 3 votes.

The next highest difference is Berlin's forwards defeating Seoul's defenders. We look at Berlin's forwards and see MATTHEW STOKES is the highest scorer. So he gets 2 votes.

The lowest difference is Seoul's midfield defeating Berlin's midfield. Again, we look at Seoul's midfield and see TOM SCULLY is the highest scorer. So he gets 1 vote.

Final votes:

3: J Bolton (Seoul)
2. M Stokes (Berlin)
1. T Scully (Seoul)

Whereas if we just looked at the highest scores it would be:

3. D Wells (Berlin)
2. J Bolton (Seoul)
1. G Broughton (Berlin)

Yes, I think about this too much.

^ this was my idea from months back

PowerBug

Yeah, that's good. But if Swan gets 175 and Boyd 173, only one has the potential to get votes. Is that right?

Yes, but midfielders get all the awards anyway :)

Think the Jim Stynes Medal has even more revelance in light of the tragic events. :'(

Hey everyone,

As you may come to notice I have added some additional stickies and threads just to make the place more user-friendly.

The main information directory links all the teams, the fixture, the ladder, the rules, everything in one easy to read thread. No more getting lost here. ;)

I have created a "What is the WXV" thread too just to give outsiders an insight to what the game is. I'd love to see this game grow! ;D

I also created a new easy-to-read fixture and ladder along with a statistics page, just to provide more insights into teams and for fun. ;D

Hope you have all enjoyed the pre-season, the real comp begins this weekend!!! ;D ;D

GO ISLANDERS!

CrowsFan

Regarding the fixtures c4 you have my final game at the wrong stadium name ;)
It should still be the pumas one not the corinthians one :)

I just copied and pasted it from a previous version, that'd be why.

If anyone else has changes they want made, let myself or ossie know. Especially those teams with TBA next to their fixtures. :)

MajorLazer

Borg El Arab Stadium. This will be the Sands home ground in 2012. Sorry about the late notice, forgot to tell someone. :P

PowerBug

Nice work c4, with the stuff on the home page. This is going to be some massive competition.

Nah, it'll be the face of FanFooty. If the word spreads, we could get, 100+ people following it.
