FisherSaints

Been doing this draft for awhile, but my first year doing a phantom draft, it isn't that good

FisherSaints’ Phantom Draft (First Round)

Pick 1-GWS- Jonathan Patton (KPF)
Patton is certain to go to GWS, for many reasons. He is the best forward in the draft, because he can crash packs, kick goals, is a good mark and he is an athlete.
Height: 197cm
Weight: 95kg
Club: Eastern Ranges
Player Comparison: Jonathan Brown
Pick Range: 1-2

Pick 2-GWS- Stephen Coniglio (Mid)
Coniglio is a great midfielder, who is fast and able to bust through packs, good at clearances and can kick goals. He is sure to go to GWS.
Height: 182cm
Weight: 76kg
Club: Swan Districts
Player Comparison: Marc Murphy
Pick Range: 1-2

Pick 3-GWS- Chad Wingard (Mid/Fwd)
Wingard is one of the best players in the draft. He is an incredible kick on his preferred left. He can push forward and have an impact as well. He captained South Australia in the Under 18 championship.
Height: 181cm
Weight: 73kg
Club: Sturt
Player Comparison: Scott Pendulbury
Pick Range: 3-5

Pick 4-GWS- Dom Tyson (Mid)
If not for the Under 18’s championships, Tyson would be picked a lot later; instead he is now a possible top 3 selection. Tyson is a left footer, but he can use his right foot when needed, and well. He makes good decisions and has great vision.
Height: 187cm
Weight: 78kg
Club: Oakleigh Chargers
Player Comparison: Simon Black
Pick Range: 3-6

Pick 5-GWS- Billy Longer (Ruck)
Longer is by far the best ruck prospect this year. He doesn’t gather up the possessions, he is more of a tap work ruckman. Longer is a right footer but, curiously, mainly has a left hand tap. He can also have a big impact up forward.
Height: 202cm
Weight: 95kg
Club: Northern Knights
Player Comparison: Dean Cox
Pick Range: 3-8

Pick 6-Port Adelaide- Will Hoskin-Elliot (Mid)
Hoskin-Elliot is a great prospect in this draft and he could go top 5, but GWS don’t need midfielders. Hoskin-Elliot has electrifying pace and he has the ability to run and carry the ball. He can kick 55-60m and he can kick well with each foot.
Height: 182cm
Weight: 73kg
Club: Western Jets
Player Comparison: Isaac Smith
Pick Range: 5-10

Pick 7-GWS- Matthew Buntine (Def/Mid)
Buntine has a good kicking efficiency and loves to take an overhead mark. He didn’t have a great U18 championship, but had proven himself already. He is a superb rebounder off half back.
Height: 188cm
Weight: 83kg
Club: Dandenong Stingrays
Player Comparison: Bryce Gibbs
Pick Range: 5-12

Pick 8-Brisbane- Liam Sumner (Mid)
Sumner can break tackles, run with the ball and is extremely fast. He can tackle very well for his weight. He can influence the game with only a few touches, but he doesn’t get the ball enough to be a star, yet.
Height: 182cm
Weight: 70kg
Club: Sandringham Dragons
Player Comparison: Dale Thomas
Pick Range: 5-12

Pick 9-GWS- Hayden Croizer (Mid/Fwd)
Croizer is a forward who spends time in the midfield. He has a huge leap and in the U18 championship took a big hanger in the goalsquare. He likes to run and take a bounce.
Height: 184cm
Weight: 68kg
Club: Eastern Ranges
Player Comparison: Nathan Fyfe
Pick Range: 8-20

Pick 10-GWS- Shane Kersten
Kersten is a goal-kicking forward who could really go anywhere in the draft. He is a bit small, but marks well on the lead.
Height: 190cm
Weight: 88kg
Club: South Fremantle
Player Comparison: Brendon Fevola
Pick Range: 10-60

Pick 11-GWS- Elliot Kavanagh (Mid)
Kavanagh is a great all-rounder; he kicks well, makes good decisions and is quick. He missed the championships because of injury. He has had other injuries so he may not play many games, but without injury he will be a star.
Height: 187cm
Weight: 78kg
Club: Western Jets
Player Comparison: Isaac Smith
Pick Range: 5-12

Pick 12-Brisbane- Myles Bolger (Ruck)
Bolger is great tap work ruckman; he takes contested marks and is very good around the ground. He has the quality to be a first round pick.
Height: 201cm
Weight: 90kg
Club: South Fremantle
Player Comparison: Darren Jolly
Pick Range: 10-25

Pick 13-GWS- Adam Tomilinson (KPF/KPD)
Tomilinson is a versatile forward who plays everywhere, even in the midfield. He plays well in defence against lesser opponents, and rebounds well, but against bigger, better opponents he struggles. Tomilinson may go a bit later, towards the end of the first round.
Height: 194cm
Weight: 90kg
Club: Oakleigh Chargers
Player Comparison: Matthew Pavlich
Pick Range: 5-35

Pick 14-GWS- Sam Frost (Def)
Frost is athletic, from a volleyball background. For his size, he has crazy dash. He isn’t afraid to take on his man. He needs to develop consistency in his kicking, because sometimes the go all over the place.
Height: 194cm
Weight: 87kg
Club: Sandringham Dragons
Player Comparison: Sam Fisher
Pick Range: 10-45

Pick 15-Richmondâ€" Devon Smith (Mid/Fwd)
Smith is a big ball winner, who works hard all around the ground. He dominated at Under 18’s level. He has a great burst of speed and can run around all day and not get tired.
Height: 175cm
Weight: 73kg
Club: Geelong Falcons
Player Comparison: Brent Harvey
Pick Range: 10-27

Pick 16-Fremantle â€" Taylor Adams (Mid)
Adams is an impressive talent, playing as an inside midfielder. He is a great tackler and also has the ability to stand up in a tackle. Adams is a strong mark and uses his body to beat his opponent, so in 2012 you may see him push forward.
Height: 181cm
Weight: 80kg
Club: Geelong Falcons
Player Comparison: Nathan Foley
Pick Range: 7-20

Pick 17-Western Bulldogs- Brad McKenzie (Def/Mid)
McKenzie is a raking left-footer who averaged 16.4 disposals and 3.4 tackles in the championship. He is also a very good short kick.
Height: 188cm
Weight: 75kg
Club: Sturt
Player Comparison: Trent McKenzie
Pick Range: 14-25

Pick 18- North Melbourne-Toby Greene (Mid)
Like Tyson, Greene has improved his chances of being drafted, by having a very good championship. Greene gathers the ball a lot and especially at clearances. He isn’t a big athlete but has endurance and agility.
Height: 180cm
Weight: 78kg
Club: Oakleigh Chargers
Player Comparison: Matthew Boyd
Pick Range: 12-22

Pick 19-Essendon- Murray Newman
Newman is very dangerous when he gets the ball, because he uses it so well. He is fast, has good vision and is able to find space.
Height: 179cm
Weight: 67kg
Club: Swan Districts
Player Comparison: Isaac Smith
Pick Range: 18-60

Pick 20-Fremantle- Daniel Markworth (Mid/Fwd)
If he slips through Markworth will fit structure perfectly. He kicks goals (4th in goals for TAC Cup) but also helps others kick goals (1st in TAC Cup for goal assists).
Height: 189cm
Weight: 78kg
Club: Calder Cannons
Player Comparison: Nathan Fyfe
Pick Range: 18-32

Pick 21- Tom Mitchell (Mid) (F/S)
Mitchell is a certainty to go with this pick after Sydney out-bid Fremantle for him.  He is a tough inside midfielder and can use the ball well. He also kicks goals. He would have made top 15, if not for father-son selections.
Height: 181cm
Weight: 79kg
Club: Claremont
Player Comparison: Simon Black
Pick Range: 21

Pick 22-Carlton- Julian Dobosz (KPF)
Dobosz reads the ball well, can take a big contested mark and kicked on average 3.8 goals in 4 U18 championship games. He is a very accurate shot at goal also.
Height: 193cm
Weight: 85kg
Club: North Hobart
Player Comparison: Nick Riewoldt
Pick Range: 20-30

Pick 23-West Coast- Jackson Paine (KPF/Mid)
Paine is a particularly strong mark on the lead and he also likes to take one overhead every now and then.  He works hard and he is a good kick for his size. He plays more forward than in the middle.
Height: 194cm
Weight: 87kg
Club: Sandringham Dragons
Player Comparison: Matthew Pavlich
Pick Range: 15-30

Pick 24-Hawthorn- Sam Docherty (Def)
Docherty didn’t make the original Vic Country side but then he was put in. He has explosive pace, a great kick (even under pressure). He is very good when he has to go man-on-man and loves to rebound.
Height: 183cm
Weight: 83kg
Club: Gippsland Power
Player Comparison: Heath Shaw
Pick Range: 10-30

Pick 25-St Kilda- Michael Talia (KPD)
Talia is the best KPD of the draft and could easily go top 15. He is a big contested mark, has endurance, has good strength and a strong work rate. Talia would suit St Kilda’s needs well, with the delisting of Zac Dawson.
Height: 193cm
Weight: 87kg
Club: Calder Cannons
Player Comparison: Brian Lake
Pick Range: 18-35

Pick 26-Richmond- Brandon Ellis (Def)
Ellis is an exceptional user of the ball. He wins the hard ball, reads the play and tackles hard. He is a great rebounder from defence. At the draft combine, he tested well in all categories.
Height: 181cm
Weight: 81kg
Club: Calder Cannons
Player Comparison: Heath Shaw
Pick Range: 15-40

Great read! Not that it matters, but I think Coniglio will be #1. Too much pressure for the KPP players being #1

Honestly don't know all that much!

Maca24

Not bad.

Although where is Mitchell Grigg and Elliot Yeo?  ???

Docherty and Talia will go much earlier as well.

Holz

IM sure everyone is hoping wingard will be a M/F not sure if he will though

Torpedo10

I would have thought Essendon would get Grigg.

Holz

Would the roos be stupid enough to pick up another mid when we have guys like cunnington, anthony, atley etc.. who probably wont get games

Ringo

#7
May be wrong but do not see Brisbane using their first pick on a mid if a good quality defender, ruck or forward are available. We have our mid field covered with Rich, Redden, Rockliff, Black, Polec,  Josh Green., Harwood, Bewick who have all played 1st grade.  Coming through Clay Beams, Callum Bartlett and Zorko you can see why I make that statement.

We need defence, ruck and forward strengthened.  If by some chance Longer is still available at 8 he would be Brisbane's first pick imo.

No way North would take another midfielder.

If we don't land McKenzie, then Ellis would be our next choice.

i have got ot agrre mids and rucks we look set, and with our pick i dont see any quality forwards plus we have edwards, petrie and hmac. We really need some good rebounding defenders.

Great read. I think west coast are much more likely to go for a small forward or the best midfielder available with our first pick though.

Just heard a comment from Voss and he reiterated that we would be taking best players available at the time regardless of position. Targets mentioned Toby Greene, Tomlinson, Wingard and Buntine mentioned as targets.

Brisbane won't get Wingard, there's no way he'll fall that far.

IMO, if they are wanting the best available, then they will take either one of Hoskin-Elliot, Tomlinson or Buntine.

Ringo

Cv for some reason our recruiters seem to value Greene above Tomlinson but not seeing too much in highlights in Qld can not comment, suffice to say Oakleigh Chargers have been a good recruiting club for us  (Recent recruits Lester, Karnezis and Sheldon) We have picks 8 & 12 which hopefully we can use well.

Centurions

If Tomlinson is available at No. 8 we will pick him to fill the void left by Staker and then pick up a mid (Toby Greene, Devon Smith, Taylor Adams) with pick 12 to strengthen the midfield
