Hey guys... :)

Just starting a thread on something I'm sure you all regularly partake in ;)

Not sure why I'm starting this, guess I just wanted to talk about myself  ;D

Anyway, today I went for my first bike ride in over 5 years.... I'm trying to lose weight as I'm a big boy...
I'm ~175cms and weighed ~110kg before I started trying to lose weight (a couple months or so ago is when I started, not sure exact date)

At the moment I'm down to ~104-105kg and finally decided instead of just eating healthier, I'd start doing some exercise too.

Therefore today I went for a nice bike ride as I previously mentioned and actually ENJOYED it... Therefore I was wondering what kind of exercises you guys do? What are some fun exercises? Some things I could try at home perhaps? Things to do on my bike ride?

And I was wondering one thing... what are the laws (Victoria) in regards to riding bicycles along footpaths? I don't really want to ride on the road as I hate all cyclists when driving myself.

So yeah, what exercises do you do? How regular? Enjoyable?

I dunno, just chat!

6'3" at about 95kg... though probably pushing a 100 recently :( Slack is me.

BUT I was over 120 kg at one point, and the way I lost weight was pretty much what you're doing now. Excersice bike in front of the TV works well for me.

It's a simple thing to do in the end, just a matter of will power - much easier said than done.

Good thread. Not really sure about your questions though. I like running :-X I try and go for a run each morning for an hour or so and again at night. Always good fun... For me anyway :P I'm pretty skinny though don't really need to lose any weight.

Cicjose

i walk to my local shops every day its about a 1.5km walk to get there and the same distance back so i believe i get an okay amount of exercise (it takes about 30-35 minutes)

5'8 (and still growing) and 57 kg. I used to jog around but the only exercise I do now is at school. I planning to start working on my endurance- if I can be bothered  ;)

Fun exercise = Sports. It's always the best way to lose exercise as it's fun. Even if it is just a little kick to kick, it can help out. I'm 5'7 and about 70-75kg, so not that skinny :P. I was at school and usually played sports every other lunchtime, basketball, soccer, AFL. If you can get some friends along, makes it fun :P. Although since school is over, I have to settle with backyard footy with my nephew (teaching him basic skills 8)).

I also like to walk rather than drive or take public transport. Use to walk to school and walk home most of the time when going to school or even to the shopping centre. Like Cic said, I use to walk basically the same distance (1.5km).

Can ride bikes on the footpaths (alot of people do it), but probably have to ride around pedestrians if you do so. If you are riding to like the CBD, there is a bike path next to the road which are at times pretty empty.

I walk to the fridge about 6-8 times a day lol, But seriously i'm a concretor, so i'm normally stuffed when i get home. At my age i should be doing more, I hate threads that make me feel guilty lol :'(

At my age, people expect me to be doing more :-X. Might also mention I've never been to a gym, don't see much of a point :P.

Great to hear you wanting to make an effort Nails.  A healthy diet and exercise is the right path and you cant have 1 without the other.

I (normally) play sport and walk my dogs daily for my exercise.  I play basketball twice a week in summer and once a week in winter.  I play for 2 teams in footy in winter (Amateurs and Veterans).  Amateurs is every weekend on Saturdays and Veterans is every second weekend on Sundays.  I then have to train once a week for footy.

I wouldnt recommend to do this amount of exercise straight up.  Continue with your cycling and increase your distance (over time).  Going for a walk is highly under-rated by most people but for someone trying to build up an exercise regime it is a fantastic start.  You would also build up the distance you walk (over time).

My one piece of advise for you to keep telling yourself..... "DONT QUIT".  Keep telling yourself that you dont want to be a quitter - this is all down to your mental strength.  If you can keep up a strong mental side of it the physical side will come.

The most important thing when trying to lose weight by doing exercise is making sure you are going at the right intensity. No point doing the exercise if you are just cruising.
To burn fat whilst exercising you need to get your heart rate up to at least 65% of your max heart rate, whilst to increase your cardio you need to be working at at least your 80% HR max.
If you don't know what your HR max is it is very simple to calculate. It is just 220 - age. So if you are 20 your HR max is 200. Therefore if you are 20 you need to get your HR up to at least 130 to be burning fat ;)

Good luck nails :)

I go for either a run/bike ride every morning. For about an hour.
Cricket training 4 times a week. 2 hour sessions.
Swimming every Sat. and Sun. afternoon. Usually for like 3+ when it's warm :-X

Good luck Nails, you know you can do it 8)

The first thing you should do is work out an appropriate diet plan. You are what you eat is not a saying without it's merits.

Nails - Plenty trials around Mount Cootha if you need further challenges. (Actually in Qldwe have a number of designated bike paths that encourage riding but at my age now would look out of place with the Lycra brigade)  Used to go there riding years ago but in my old age like Ossie use the exercise bike or cross trainer in front of TV. I am currently 170cms and 91kgs down from 97kgs with a target to get to 80 if possible. Sedentary Office job does not help.
