Cartman Fanplanner squad in the Super Coach competition coached by Maca24. Salary cap left: $9,500.

BACKS: Brendon Goddard, Brett Deledio, Bryce Gibbs, Shaun Burgoyne, Brian Lake, Matthew Buntine, Sam Docherty
Steven Morris, Adam Tomlinson

MIDS: Gary Ablett jnr, Dane Swan, Chris Judd, Trent Cotchin, Stephen Coniglio, Tom Mitchell
Marty Clarke, Dylan Shiel

RUCKS: Nic Naitanui, Hamish McIntosh
Jonathan Giles, Mitchell Curnow

FRWDS: Lance Franklin, Nathan Fyfe, Travis Cloke, David Zaharakis, Patrick Dangerfield, Anthony Morabito, Will Hoskin-Elliott
Ahmed Saad, Dayne Zorko

Backs are a bit light, but midfield is strong to do some bulk scoring.
Rucks I'm happy with, and forwards have the big names along with the some promising rookies.

Every draft is full of optimism, and has picks like dangerfield :D, then reality kicks in round 1.

Can't really argue with the picks, most of it is going to be determined by preseason.

inially had Caddy myself until he played those 2 games, and has lost value, imo.  Tom Mitchell 60k cheaper, ready to make immediate impact imo against GWS round 1 ($$).

BTW, Gotta have Franklin and/or cloke, imo

My plan is to get Buddy when he falls, but I will most likely have him next year.
I shall keep my eye on Mitchell  ;)

I would argue SJ is more volatile, and would consider starting Franklin instead.

Would probably limit the number of Burgoyne, Cotchins, Zaha, Sidebottom type of picks, and substitute them for proven premiums.

That way you have a fall back if shower goes down.  For example, if Zaha becomes shower, you have a ready replacement in Sidebottom.

I believe those guys that you mentioned will be the difference between a good team and a great team.
They will make my team great  ;)
I'm sure 3 of the 4 will take the next step.

Its not just a matter of them improving their averages...

You need to consider how much they will actually need to improve, for them to be considered a worth while RELATIVE to their initial base price.  For example, I would say Cotchin will need to push 110+ based on his price.

There are many ways you can create a POD.  However, MINIMIZING risks in Round 1, and getting a good start is just as important.

Look at the previous winners in 2011, 2010, 2009, what are the commonalities?

Maca24

I am sick of playing it safe though. Is boring as hell, and everyone just has the same team.
I am hoping to be a little unique, cas whenever I follow my gut I am usually right.
Sidebottom can average 90+ easily IMO.
Cotchin can average 110
Zaha should average 100

All these picks are valid. Especially with forwards being lower scorers, Sidey and Zaha are virtually locks for me.

charliesheen

You see your not quite understanding me.

I'm not saying you should not have a unique pick, I am saying you should MINIMIZE the amount of unique picks you take.  There is also different ways you can create a POD.

For example, not starting a cookie cutter pick like Ablett / Swan itself would be a POD, just like how Impromptu didn't start Goddard.

My practical advice is to check out the 2011 data.  Nailing one of them is hard enough, expecting to nail 3-4 is unrealistic.

People seem to remember the Rockliffs & Reddens, and then forget about the 10,00000000000000 other failed picks like Grimes, Higgins, Connors, C. Bruce, R. Gray.

The list is endless...

Maca24

I understood you the first time.
I don't consider my guys as risks though.
Zaha, Cotchin aren't risks.
Sidebottom and Burgoyne are, but that's only 2.

Thats pretty confident seeing there is no preseason :D

I have Zaha, Cotchin and Steele right now. They are just about locks for me.

at end of the day, you should back your own judgement and march to your own beat.

just giving out my suggestions, and hopefully I can apply some of the things I have learned from 2011 successfully.

Nah I just respect your opinion enormously, and am surprised by your thoughts.
But I will take your advice on board  ;)

I'm doing basically the same thing (to DT- this'll be my first SC year) :P

I honestly reckon most of the 'secrets' to success are all there in the data from previous years, we just need to figure out what to look at. Obviously luck plays a large part, but honestly I think I *may* have devised a formula for picking the right smokies :P

unfortunately, I won't have a chance to look into it until I get home :P
