Can you still get out to a decent point to fish off the mole?
I thought you couldn't really anymore

Haven't been down for awhile, but from fishing reports it seems fine?  Prob haven't been for about a year and it was ok then.

Sweet I haven't bothered for years as the spot we used to use off it we no longer can
We just go off the beach now since it's only like 5 minutes from home

Anyone fished for Bonito or Mackerel before?  Going to give North Mole in Freo a crack early next week.  Got tomorrow off so going tackle shopping, will prob get a few metal lures, some stick baits and balloons in case they aren't liking the  lures.  Any tips?  ;D

May need some wire trace if the Mackerel are thick, they can mess up your line and cost you a few lures.
Good quality Flourocarbon leader breaking strain depending on the size of fish your chasing, quality chemical sharpened hooks and practice those knots, good size Mackerel and Bonito will find any weakness. Good tackle makes it all easier.
Somewhere to keep your live bait healthy. A cheap kiddies pool is handy filled with seawater. Easy to carry in and out.
Are you running braid on your reals or mono ?

Yep, traces and hooks are on my list, plus have leader too.  Prob just use a bucket to keep live fish if we have to go that way.  Will be running mono myself, not sure about the other guys but from reports ppl say mono is better than braid for Bonito and Mackerel especially when using lures.

Prefer braid myself but each to their own.

I'll post some pics if we get anything decent!  Might be a bucket full of bait fish!  ;)

What is the difference between a piano and a fish?
You can tune a piano but you cannot tuna fish.

Hope that advice helps   ;D

Glad to have spiced some life into this thread, even if it's not fishing related!  :P

So went to the North Mole on Sun and Mon evening for a few hours...was pretty darn windy, but not too bad.  Got a good workout casting a retrieving some lures, hooked up on 4 occasions, but fish jumped out with a headshake and came off, all looked like chopper tailor.  Was a pretty big school of mackerel jumping out the water at one stage, but way too far out for anyone to cast to.  Was good fun and the sunsets were amazing.  Had some bait leftover so on the way home headed to the Swan drop a few more lines in.  Hooked up on what I thought was a nice sized Bream only to reel it in onto the jetty and it was a 35cm Pink Snapper!  Hooked up on a few more all very healthy looking and around the same size, beautiful looking fish at this age.  All released back to fight another day, and in about 5 years time I'll know where to go.  :D
