Is he coming? If he does come, how will he fit into the team?

This is hawka26 ;)
Gunston would fit very well into our team.

We have buddy and roughnut as our 2 tall options up forward with bailey in the ruck. Roughy would play permanent 2nd ruck to bailey and we would have Gunston being a floating half forward pushing onto the wing when bailey rucks and when roughy rucks and Bailey is resting then Gunston could be the 2nd tall target up forward. This would push hale out of the team but he is a perfect backup should any of the forwards or Bailey goes down. This would also probably push Renouf of the list though which I dont mind because IMO Renouf sucks :P

EDIT: Pyro here correcting the grammar, it pissed me off :P

Have to disagree with your team structure there Hawka but I do think he fits in our side.

I don't think we will see Roughy ruck any time soon. He will be lucky to be playing by round 8 at this point and I very much doubt they will risk his achilles tendon with all of the quick changes of direction required by a ruckman.

If Gunston pushes anyone out of the side it will be Bruest. We also have Menegola coming along very nicely and could play a similar role as well. The role one of these two (or three if Gunston comes to Hawthorn) will be similar to the role of Mark Williams in 2008, but with a bit of added height.

Gunston is a great prospect, but I hope we don't overpay given that there are far greater deficiencies that need filling.

roo boys!

If you got him would that make the Lisle to North trade almost certain?

I was kinda hoping we would be able to play Roughy as a CHB and play Gibson as a 3rd man coming over the top, but we will have Stratton and Gilham back so may not need that.

Roughy's best position is still full forward. That being said, he can play ruck and he can play as a defender and do both well.

Lisle is definitely trade bait this year, but we won't let him go cheaply. He is a natural key forward, but he could develop into a very good defender and has show signs of this. We hold the cards on this one as there are apparently a lot of clubs interested this year, not just north. Although since the Hawks have shown interest in Matt Campbell something might happen with North.

Renouf has apparently had an offer from Port. Hawks want one of Carlile, Chaplin and Trengove. I don't mind that. Renouf has dropped out of the top ruck duo at the Hawks and has made a lot of improvement over the past 2 years so it would be good for him to get opportunities elsewhere and we get something in return.

Seeing how poorly Hawthorn trades... *cough* Josh Kennedy and Ben McGlynn *cough*

...I wouldn't be surprised if they gave Lisle and Ellis to North in return for a sack of rice and a couple blankets.  ;D

C4, we only traded them because they said they wanted to leave the club to get greater opportunities.

* Hale
* Gibson
* Burgoyne

Pretty good recent track record.

Yeah any chance we can have Gibson back? We'll give you some spices from the East India trading route....   :o

roo boys!

Wouldn't mind having Gibson back, but despite Hale playing an important role in your team, and doing it well, I still
wouldn't touch that guy with a 10 foot pole.

As for Kennedy and McGlynn, we just put them where they wanted to be instead of being harsh and making them take their chances in the draft. Out of contract, little you can do. Saints should have done a lot more to get something for Ball than they did, much worst than us.

Then we can look at the history of trades between Hawthorn and North....

2004 Nathan Thompson for pick 10 (which was ontraded for pick 7 (Jordan Lewis) and pick 26 (Matthew Little)
2005 Jonathan Hay - pick 18 (Max Bailey)
2009 Pick 25 (Aaron Black) and 41 (Ayden Kennedy) - Joshua Gibson and pick 69 (Taylor Duryea)
2010 End of first round comp pick (Kieran Harper) and pick 71 (Ben Mabon) for David Hale and pick 52 (which was traded for Kyle Cheney and pick 66 (Paul Puopolo))

The only bad thing was not trading you guys Jade Rawlings for picks 9 and 24.... never understood all that happened there actually.

Probably missing one or two but seems like we have done pretty well against you guys :)

Kennedy is over-rated.

Does Josh Gibson ring a bell? one of the best defenders of the year, was at north last year, so the hawks arent all that crap at trading

PowerBug

I think kennedy was one of the best swans players this year. Didn't he lead the team for clearences this year?

Voldemort

tackles, I think, but he has so many avg games...
