Trying to give Mike a run for his money.

One man's opinion! Feel free to disagree, it is more fun that way

My 2010 List

Brackets what I rated them last year....

Again stressing I'm not an expert, just my opinion.

1 (10). Lance Franklin (reckon Mike was right at the start of the year. Does it every week, IMO the MVP of the AFL)

2 (NR). Dean Cox (Something special is required to take a team from last to 4th. Dean Cox is it).

3 (8 ). Chris Judd (The Juddernaught faded towards the end, perhaps robbing him of top spot).

4 (2). Gary Ablett (Was suberb this year, vastly underrated)

5 (NR). Travis Cloke (Took the step up to elite, with the most powerful mark in the AFL).

6 (11). Scott Pendlebury (Outstanding year, smartest player in AFL)

7 (NR). Darren Glass (Stood tall and delivered to claim best full back in AFL again)

8 (NR). Sam Mitchell (unburdened from captaincy, he just accumulated. 30 votes is hard to get!)

9 (35). Dale Thomas (Felt he could do it all this year, inside, outside, marks, goals.)

10 (NR). Matthew Scarlett (begrudgingly I acknowledge his huge importance)

11 (44). Nick Dal Santo (Massive part of St. Kilda's recovery)

12 (1). Dane Swan (The Brownlow medallist, IMO, was not as good as the last 2 years, but thouroughly deserved the win)

13 (32). James Kelly (Took another step up)

14 (25). Steve Johnson (Thought the unluckiest player not to get All-Aus)

15 (NR). Marc Murphy (Now elite)

16 (NR). Todd Goldstein (Behind only Coxy this year in the Ruck)

17 (6). Joel Selwood (Missed a few games, but can't deny his class)

18 (NR). Josh Kennedy <Eagles> (Part of the excellent Eagles tall trio with Cox and Glass)

19 (NR). Leon Davis (!!)

20 (48). Sam Fisher (If not for Fisher, not sure if the Saints would have won many games at the start of the year. Very unlucky to miss out All-Aus)

21 (NR). Ben Reid (Teams couldn't get past him, only 2010 Rising Star nominee to be All-AUs this year)

22 (NR). Nathan Fyfe (Just behind Reid, amazing effort from only a 2nd year player)

23 (NR). Jimmy Bartel (Norm Smith tops of a consistent year. What a star)

24 (NR). Scott Thompson <Crows> (50 touches in a game! Great year)

25 (26). Corey Enright (Mr. Consistent)

26 (NR). Adam Goodes (Not sure if there is a most versatile player)

27 (NR). Heath Scotland (Like a fine wine. Still a traitor)

28 (NR). Cyril Rioli (Delicious)

29 (27). Harry Taylor (Could end up being one of the AFL's greats)

30 (NR). Brad Ottens (Strength, great full season)

31 (41). Matthew Boyd (machine)

32 (NR). Matthew Priddis (machine)

33 (42). Andrew Swallow (Probably needs just one more step to get to elite)

34 (NR). Andrew Embley (welcome return to form!)

35 (NR). Daniel Wells (Finally started delivering)

36 (NR). Grant Birchall (Nice in a crisis)

37 (NR). Tom Rockliff (Under the rader in Brisbane, but a serious talent)

38 (NR). Luke McPharlin (Vastly underrated)

39 (NR). Drew Petrie (Fantastic return from injury)

40 (36). Luke Ball (Making the Saints regret his decision every day)

41 (24). Jobe Watson (If not for a mid-season injury, could have been top 10, reason Bombers made finals)

42 (NR). Chris Tarrant (Slotted right in)

43 (NR). Josh Gibson (When the Hawk backs fell down, he stood up)

44 (31). Brett Deledio (Just keeps contributing)

45 (NR). Chris Yarran (Nicely done Ratts)

46 (NR). Robert Murphy (Consistent in a tough year for the Dogs)

47 (NR). Ryan Griffen (Doesn't doo much wrong!)

48 (23). James Frawley (IMO, Melbourne's best player)

49 (NR). Stephen Milne (I hate him, but was really good this year in tough conditions)

50 (18). Matthew Pavlich (Not as influential, but still huge)

North Melbournes Finest

These are the ones I have major problems with -

Ottens - Too high or shouldn't be in there at all
Adam Goodes - Way too low, should be top 10-15
Chris Yarran - No
Rockliff higher then Jobe Watson? Um....
Cyril Rioli - Come on, I love the guy but inconsistent as anything, way too high
Josh Kennedy - Whilst having fantastic year, certainly not a top 20 player in the AFL. Petrie is better than him, and I think Petrie is fine where he is in the rankings, not sure how you have Kennedy higher than him.

Only have major problems with 6, have minor problems with a few others but who cares. Everyone going to be subjective and it's a very hard thing to do because everyone values different players very differently. Good job on the list.

Couldn't find space for Westhoff or Gray? kidding

Nice work oss, i think you were too harsh on Pendles and Swan though. I understand as it's your team ;)

Westhoff is the pits. Wouldn't get a game at Cats or Pies.

Hodge out!?!?

Where is this perception coming from that he had a bad year....

Yes he started a little slowly with injury but was top 3 in the second half of the year and our best in the finals (just pipping Lewis).

He got 17 Brownlow votes and traditionally doesn't pole highly.

ossie85

Yeah, soz to Hodge :( Guess I'm subconsciously grading him on a tougher curve!

My Chumps

Nice list ossie, couple I don't exactly agree with but hey, each to their own.
What's the criteria for this list?
Like is it based on each players 2011 season, or who you rate as a better player?

ossie85

SCOTT PEDLEBURY #1 in Sheahan's list! Woo! Lot of Collingwood love in that list

Cruiseon

It's not a bad list finally by Mike, I guess after 84 years of trying you get the hang of it.  ;)

Not sure how Corey Enright at 11 (who I quite like) can be ahead of Goodes, Cox, Reid and NDS?

The top 10 seems about right although I take out Glass at 10 for one of Cox, Goodes or Thomas but its nit-picking really.
