they said that he played the best game for the club

i say he should have won the Norm Smith

ossie85

Lies. He got a couple of gimme goals, missed 5 shots at goal. Could've cost them the match

Cicjose

yeah so?

his influence started the onslaught

His influence at kicking points?

He was clearly flogging Reid. But he didn't convert, simple as that.

Instead of kicking 1 goals, 4 behinds and 1 out on the full from his set shots. If he kicked 4.2 from his set shots (+ his 2 goals), then he would've deserved.

Not saying he didn't play well, he did, but he was from Geelong's best IMO

Agree Ossie Hawkins really only came alive in second half but Bartel was great for whole game.  I thought a well deserved winner of Norm Smith

he kicked 3.3 not 1.4
maybe so, but still Bartel was best on for me.
His goals were all when geelong was behind the 8 ball. Kept them in the game.

Regardless of whether he was BoG or not, he definitely had a huge influence on the game and it's great to see him step up after J-pod's injury. I'm happy that he's reaching his potential when he's one of those players that could have gone either way. Stepping up on the big day is what clubs ask for so well done Tomahawk!

But in my opinion Ossie is right, he had 1 good quarter which shouldn't earn him a NS medal (unless it was a quarter like Darren Jarman's, circa 1997).

PowerBug

Big influence, took strong marks, but wasn't BOG. 3.3 isn't bad, but the 3 goals were gimmies and he missed 3 set shots, two in a minute. If Collingwood managed to convert one of those it could've been dangerous. Luckily they didn't :)

Holz

hopefully he can continue his finals form next season. I cant see gellong being able to win again unless he does so. has under produced his whole career and probably should have converted more today, but should signs of why the cats picked him.

bunyip

He can play, but needs to finish better. At least it's something he can practice.

biggy

lets just remember he took the most contested marks in a GF since recorded in '99.

i think that alone influences games, he would of been well deserved to pick up the normie.

I don't know about the Norm Smith, what I did like though was he was competing all over the ground. He was going for marks from the kick out, so you can't complain about his work rate. His kicking will improve. Cloke was pretty inacurate as late as last season I seem to recall

His game in the gf was a step in the right direction that is for sure, if he can consistently play like that it will be great for the cats and good for the game as there is nothing better to watch in the afl than a courageous hard working key position forward, players like Carey, Brown, Riewoldt and Brereton are a few who spring to mind
