Jared Petrenko- He averaged 69 for the whole season but did average 82.5 in his last ten games. However im still not sure if his going to be listed as a forward or defender.

Phil Davis- If he has a full pre season and doesn't get injured then he will be a great cash cow with him only playing three games in 2011, and he will definitely be in GWS's best 22.

Jack Ziebell- He averaged 79 for the whole season but did average 97.2 in the last 12 he played, and that is not including the 4 he scored when he played Fremantle because he got concussed. He was looking like a pretty popular pick for next season until he got suspended which will see him miss the first two matches. Meaning he will probably be a unique pick, at least for the first part of the year.

David Zaharakis- He averaged 89.6 for the whole season, but did average 94.8 for the last 12 games he played. If he is listed as a forward then everyone should at least seriously consider picking him for ur team.

Nathan Fyfe- He was a revelation this season and will probably average over 100 next season, if he plays more time in the midfield which he is most likely to under new coach Ross Lyon.

Tom Young- He showed promising signs when he played for Collingwood in round 22 when he scored 88, and then scored 21 when he came on as a sub in the third quarter in round 23. The only risk is that whether he will be able to hold his spot in the side, however his case is improved with players such as Leigh Brown retiring.

Andrew Gaff- Is shaping as a very popular second year player for next season, even though he averaged 65.3 for 2011. However he did start as a sub for numerous matches and did average 82.4 for the last eight matches he played, and that is including a 37 he scored in round 24 where he started as a sub. He should gain at least 50k on the price he starts at for the start of the 2012 season.

Luke Shuey- Performed very well as a dt player in 2011 playing all 22 games and averaging 83.5, having played 6 in 2010 before getting injured. He is in a similar position to what Jack Redden and Tom Rockliff were at the end of last season. With them going into their third season and having breakout seasons in the midfield, having played only 8 and 1 games respectively in 2009.

Chris Masten- Had a very impressive end to the year, and was pick 3 in the 2007 draft. And considering he averaged 56.3 for 2011 because he started as a sub numerous times, he will be under priced considering his potential.

Ryan Bastinac- He had some encouraging games throughout the year. And if he can get over his injuries that have plagued his start to his career he is due for a breakout season.

Kane Lucas- He has been plagued by injuries and if he has a full pre season there is a good chance that he will have a breakout season.

Rory Sloane- He was quite consistent over the year and ended up averaging 86.8, and he looks set to average around 95 or maybe even more for 2012.

Luke Dahlhaus- He looks like a very impressive young player and looks set to continue to improve on his first year of AFL.

Ian Callinan- He should still be almost at a rookie price of about 150, and if he has a good pre season then he will be a great cash cow.

Sam Reid- He is a great mark and he looks set to build on some great 2011 form. He looks most likely to be the next up and coming key forward.

Jack Steven- He had a great 2011 with him averaging 80. He is likely to play more of a midfield role in 2012, meaning he should average around 90 for 2012.

Jason Tutt- He had a very impressive start to his career averaging 89.7 in his first three games and if he has a good pre season and can stay in their best 22 he will go a long way in 2012.

John Butcher- He was the player everyone was talking about at the end of the year, and will no doubt be a popular pick and in Port's best 22, considering he will still be close to a rookie price for the start of the 2012 season.

Anthony Morabito- He looks set for a breakout season in 2012 with it being his third year in the system. Having done his ACL at the start of the 2011, he should be a good cash cow.

Feel free to comment and talk below about these players as well as any others you have in mind. Cheers

AWESOME stuff oc! Alot of nice smokies mixed in with already broken out Stars.

Sloane, Gaff, Steven and maybe Dahl maybe fighting for a place in my team :-X. I like Steven alot and wonder how Hayes returning may affect him scoring wise, as this year he was Hayes' replacement.

Nieso FC

Liking Tony Armstrong from Adelaide

Windigo

No way I'd get Masten.

Morabito is one that I'll look at. He looks a better 3rd draft pick than Masten. Or was Morabito number 4?  ???

pretty sure it went:

Scully, Trengrove, Martin, Morabito, cunnington from memory

Nieso FC

Is Bradd Dalzeil a chance of games. If so he must be a strong consideration.

browny_wce

Jared Petrenko- interesting...as a defender most probly yes

Phil Davis- should be a shoe in

Jack Ziebell- will be hard to go with as pretty injury prone, a mpp tag will help his cause

David Zaharakis- Zaha is a real x factor

Nathan Fyfe- i believe Fyfe will get less midfield time, looked more dangerous as a half forward and with Mundy, Barlow, Morbito, etc all back the mids should be right

Tom Young- hard team to break into as a tall ruck/forward

Andrew Gaff- locked! love the kid

Luke Shuey- will depend is Gaff looks quite in NAB as wont have 2 WCE mids. but i do like him in there

Chris Masten- not a snowflakes chance in hell

Ryan Bastinac- maybe on a 3rd year rule

Kane Lucas- NAB cup

Rory Sloane- good lil player, wins his own ball

Luke Dahlhaus- another year for this kid

Ian Callinan- lock in spesh if fwd/mid

Sam Reid- doesnt get enough of the ball

Jack Steven- dont like him so wont be in. a David Armitage type DT player

Jason Tutt- didnt see much of him

John Butcher- looking good!

Anthony Morabito- gun and should be locked!

popedelio

Josh caddy will be a good cash cow. Solid inside midfielder and was injured most of 2011 and played the last 2 games I think.

Windigo

Only thing with Butcher is that he had 6 touches and 6 goals. You won't be getting that every game. You'd hope he would get some marks around the ground and kick some goals as well.

Exactly. In terms of Port Adelaides future and me wanting to watch them on Foxtel in the future, he's definitely somebody to watch in 2012. As for his DT prospects, I'm going to give it a little more time.

I think Gaff, Lucas, Shuey are all ones to watch and Anthony Morabito (who did go at 4) is someone I would take a risk on over Chris Masten. I also really liked the look of Jack Steven but with Lenny Hayes coming back it's debatable what shape their midfield is going to take with a new coach as well.

Ziebell worries me and makes me think he could become a future Higgins case, so I'm going to steer clear of him.

Phil Davis is already locked in, I think he's going to be able to make a fortune next season.

There's also one thing you are missing on your lists of the most exciting PLAYER(S) of 2012; mature age rookies! If you can win back-to-back liston medals and win a GF in the VFL and not get recruited, there's something weird going on in the AFL system. There's definitely going to be more miracle stories coming up next season with GWS AND GC both in the draft

TheMailman

As with last years predictions I feel that out of the 20 or so you've put foward only one or two will become actual superheroes over the preseason.

Remember that people like Fyfe are exceptions and not rules

PowerBug

Spot on. The second year failure rule still applies, Fyfe was just a perfect execption.

An execption to the rule, proves the rule is valid.

Well stated, with the GF not even over there is far too much time left to know who to pick but it's all about speculation and that can be fun!

Just thought I'd let people know too http://www.youtube.com/user/AFLVideos2011 - Yesterday this user put up a bunch of the videos of 2011 Draft Prospects, so you can see more for yourself and see some of the players you may have heard about but not seen yet.

maanco

is 2012 the year of the key forward with J.voldt, J.P.Kennedy & Hawkins

I dont think people should worry about injury corncerns when they pick ziebell, he is just very unlucky breaking his leg twice. The thing that will worry most people will be his suspension. If he is a DPP he has to be a lcok but i doubt he will, could be a great smokie especially with the health concerns of wells he could become the number 2 mid.
