Hi there

I've read alot of the threads here and once again Hawthorn people are blaming the umps. That's a poor excuse. Why not blame your poor kicking in front of goal again or your inability to put the Pies away during the second and third quarters where you dominated the play or your pathectic last quater
I have no sympathy for you.
The good teams always seem to get up and win when you think all is lost.

Grumen
Most of us that are posting aren't even hawks supporters!
And I presume you are collingwood?
Maca's right Grumen, most of the guys complaining about the umpires aren't actually Hawthorn supporters.

Of course I'd like to be able to blame something ;), they didn't affect the game too greatly IMO. And I was at the game watching it.

RiOtChEsS

much like Davies last week Guerra's stupid 50m penalty when the ump was right in his ear was costly, perhaps Joel Selwood's fault ;D

8-6 Suited

Have a tissue. The umpiring wasn't great either way but seriously, it happens week in, week out throughout every season. STOP YOUR WHINGING.

I thought the umps were pretty consistent last night, whether it be right or wrong.

Still consistent ;) Just like Port.

North Melbournes Finest

Why does something always have to be about Port with you  ??? ;)

Well, they are my favourite team if that helps.

It has taken me a while to get over the game (in fact I probably am not over it yet), but I wouldn't blame the loss on the umpires or Schoenmakers.

Yes there were a few soft umpiring decisions (and a couple of shockers) that went against the Hawks in the last quarter, but over the course of the game it was probably no different that any game we have played this year, given the umps general distaste for our gamestyle. A few went our way as well.

Schoenmaker's made a few shocking turnovers and was probably one of his poorer matches disposal wise, but defensively I thought he played pretty well and another pre-season to develop some bulk and improve his body contact and he could be very good.

Ultimately the Hawk's lost their pace in the final quarter. We didn't win the ball from clearances very well and when we did it wasn't cleanly. We didn't press very well up forward (taking Whitecross off probably didn't help that) and Collingwood got the ball out far too easily. Suckling clearly is a touch player and should never have been a sub (I thought that was clear after last week) but I am guessing he was there as backup should Stratton need to be subbed off. It was close, and maybe a decision or two gave the Pies some goals, but we still had the lead and didn't control the play in the last quarter.

I agree for the most part Hawk, but Shoenmakers was a bit of a liability for us. Collingwood would let him get the ball cos they knew that he couldn't do anything with it. He is also too weak to play on guys like Cloke and Dawes which really didn't help us.

I also think we lost our composure in the last quarter which was evident when Bateman kicked it twice in a row to Maxwell for an easy chest mark.

I think we should've had Breust as the sub this week instead of Suckling, because when Buddy came off we were left with only Puopolo up forward. At least Breust could've made the Collingwood defenders accountable.

For next year, I would still prefer Gilham to Shoenmakers (As long as he recovers fine) and I think we may need to make Roughead a CHB/Ruck and Hale a FF/Ruck.

I don't think the umpires can take all the blame, Hawthorn should have won anyway, they lost the plot a bit in the last quarter. I'm astounded at how fat Swan looks yet he can run so much, I'm a stick and can't run 1/10th as far as he does :P

I watched the game with Hawka (Hawka26 that is) and he thinks Shoenmakers is similar to Zac Dawson :P

MajorLazer

That's what I've been thinking. Do you guys want him as well?

I'm just hoping that we get rid of Dawson :-X

If you watch back footage of him defending in contesting situations you will find he won about 60% of them. I agree he made a few clangers, but normally his main hindrance is his contested work and that was good. Yes he had a bad night in terms of disposal but he did score 90 in SC with 21 disposals so apart from the obvious clangers his disposal wasn't too bad. Think we are being too harsh on a 21 year old tall, who generally take more time to develop, who actually showed some resilience after a poor final and came back to play 2 good defensive games, the second on much larger and stronger opposition.

Yer I am being harsh, but I still remember the chest mark he dropped in our defensive 50 in the last quarter.
