w0wSeR... i think Mark Harvey has done a terrific job and im amazed they think Ross Lyon is the guy to get them over the line...

Harvey will be a heavily sort after coach i rekn... Neeld, Burns etc must be saying FML ::)

You would reckon that Harvey would be the perfect fit for the Melbourne position especially if Malthouse stays at the pies

Been trying to confirm a news broadcast on the ABC in Qld that Lyon was negotiating with Freo by himself.  Both Lyon and Harvey have the same manager (ESP) and the news report is saying ESP has dumped Lyon. The plot thickens

As far as I know Ringo, that is been confirmed that Lyon worked the deal himself.

When I saw that Harvey had been sacked last night, I was wondering why Freo would do this so late into the season, why wouldn't they do it earlier... Now we know why!!

When I was watching the Saints vs. Swans gae last Saturday, you could tell by the way Lyon was addressing his players at the end of the game, that it was an end of an era, but never would I have though it would be Freo, maybe Melbourne, but not Freo :o

Conniving little boy, that Lyon  :-X

If its true then Lyon has to step up real and produce results really quickly.  If he says its 3 years before we see results that is going to cause bad blood.

i dont think there is a doubt in his mind that he is gunning for a premiership, similar position he rolled into at The Saints...

as far as the way both sides have gone about :-\ very stealthy, i dont not like it the media r just powered bcos they have egg on their face

HOLY FLOWER

I did not see this coming.  I thought that if Harves had a bad year next year then he would be gone. Although I must say its an upgrade from Harvey to Lyon if it is true.

No official announcement as yet from Freo regarding new coach.

Once again...  HOLY FLOWER
i don't get why Freo keep damaging their brand like this - ie not a good way to sack a coach, they've effectively shafted Harvey and gone behind his back with a year to go on a 2yr contract extension they signed him to last year.

we might think Lyon is an upgrade but will obviously be results dependent next year.

it's just a really bad look - Harvs developed their list, got them to the finals, beat the Hawks in their qualifying final last year and then this year kept them in contention despite missing pretty much the top 1/3 of their list for most of the season ...

then they 'bone' him and parachute Lyon into the job behind his back ... very poor form ...

100% agree J. Freo's brand is not a good one anyway, now they've damaged it further.

They've obviously gone down the track of thinking that Lyon will take them to a flag, where as Harvey won't. That's the commercial decision anyway. For me that's the only way they can repair the damaged brand.

Fletch74

Use the team board guys ;)

yeah, big gamble.

agree, the brand has always been average and hardened fans like Valk accept it, but people who aren't as passionate won't put up with that sort of sh*t.

i think it could make things difficult in future recruiting of players and coaches given the way they've handled things, established players/coaches will think twice about joining seeing what happened to Harvey this time - although success is a good selling point - just a bit of a risk here ...   ;)

I think Purple is fine, it's something different. Definitely need a song change though.
I think it should be pink. They've affected their brand enough, why not ruin it more...
