Sorry Jake, you have confused me  ???

What has McGlinchey got to do with a choice of; Haliti, Amini, Meyer or Zadkovich (which you were asking I believe)?

If you mean that will give you 2 CCM midfielders, wouldn't worry too much. Think Amini will be a better pick than McGlinchey, so swap him if you like. I have two CCM defenders and happy with life.

Will post my updated team tonight once I find a replacement for Velaphi.

Jake8

Sorry BS yeh depends what price Covic comes in. May trade Ryan out for him and swap Vargas with Rose.

BlueStorm

That sounds like a very good move.
Rose was a fantasy star before his injury last year, and Vargas is far from assured a starting spot each week.

Jake8

If Covic comes in at $175 then i will do Ryan to Covic, Vargas to Rose and Alssopp to Archie.

RE: Pantelis and Velaphy

Dissapointed about Pantelis, would've been a great buy. But McGlinchey has fitted in fine instead :)
Velaphi is not an issue for me because i chose to have Vargas instead ;D

No brainer Jake8, Amini all the way.
All the rest are far too inconsistent...

I would've chosen Amini, but i haven't chosen him not because i have McGlinchey, but because... :

After a bit of researching, I have edited my team a bit more and am quite happy atm.
My team currently stands at this:

Ryan
I Franjic, A Traore, Vargas, Mullen
Fred, McGlinchey, Slory, Kewell (c)
Williams, Simon
(Gould  ,  Minniecon, Zadkovich, Antonis)

Reasons involved:
The defence and GK are not that hard to choose IMO. You look for the teams who get clean-sheets, and the players who score goals or are involved. Vargas and Traore provide the extra assists/goals, so are worth their money, while Mullen should be in Adelaide's starting XI, and is one of the cheapest, and the same with Franjic, who are from teams who get clean-sheets. I have not chosen Rose or Wilkinson in my defence, because I have Ryan as my CCM player down there and he will get plenty of clean-sheets and he is a proven goal stopper as well. Now the sub keeper is an exception to the general rule of picking rubbish players who won’t play, for money. However, you will most likely not sub off you first GK if you chose a good one, therefore no point in wasting money in a sub keeper, also keeping in mind it is not easy to stack your team this year. Also, Wellington should not do great; hence I will not choose many players from their team this year anyway. Antonis is a popular pick, and can creep up fwd; though will have to watch if he gets in the starting XI.
For my midfield, I chose two experienced players who are my premiums there (Fred and Kewell). McGlinchey is a Clincher at that price and he is a proven fantasy scorer along side the fact he plays for CCM. And everyone gets Slory. I chose Kewell over Emerton purely because I think Kewell will have a bit more competitive spirit in him and will attack more than Emerton, but really, it could go either way if you also consider age. Zadkovich for some good points on my bench, and will be involved in most Newcastle attacks.
Simon over McBreen and Kwasnik for me, while Heart have stacked up on attacking options to fill in retired and transferred players, so I have a good feeling about Williams. Minniecon I am not sure about atm about his scoring potential and ability to be in the starting XI.

-So there you have it, Luigi :)

Yup, that's why I chose Meyer instead. Hopefully he can get some more gametime this year  8)

For Christ's sake, when the Hell are they going to get off their arses and introduce Covic as an option??? Preferrably with a tasty price tag  ;) There's no hurry guys, it's only less than 72 hours to opening kick-off, and many squads are hanging on the news. Clowns...

The injuries continue to mount, and thanks for the news on Amini Luigi, had completely missed that. Sorry to give you the bum steer on him Jake8, but reckon Meyer is the best choice now. Can never remember so many players going down so close to the season, let alone coaches getting sacked 4 days out!

MajorLazer - Covic fixes your keeper risk trying to guess who out of Reddy & Necevski will start each week. Only real concern with the team is Boogard at centre back. If he plays regularly, a fine choice, but I suspect he may not be a walk-up start in Rudi's starting 11 most weeks. Mullen from Adel could be a good replacement and saves you $25k. I like the rest of the team.

MyChumps - Very solid. Biggest query is on Rozic (GC) in the backline. I know he is cheap, and have seen him in a few predicted GC 11, but we are really only guessing how Miron will line them up this year after so many changes. Watch the team sheets for this week - If Brillante plays (also GC), he is even cheaper than Rozic ($75k) and could be a decent swap option if Rozic is absent.

My team, pending news of another 24 players requiring knee surgery  :P

         Velaphi/Covic (Tyson)

Rose   Marrone   Cole   Wilkinson   (Hingert)

      Miller      Nichols     Fred   (Slory, Abbas)

       Djite   Thompson   Smeltz

I am a big believer in loading up on scoring forwards, will never see a cheap option warming the bench in my forward line. Not sold on Cole in the backline, but will worry about that once the budget is updated post Covic's arrival.

My team.

Ryan(J Tyson)
Traore  Franjic Vargas Mullen( Hamill)
Kewell Mcglinchey Fred( Slory Meyer)
Djite Allsopp Williams

Luigi197

Hey BS, what do you think about Djite. For me it was either him or Williams, but i feel Van Dijk there will just get in the way of his scoring?

Also, why have you chosen not to grab Emerton or Kewell? Because i am not sure, and feel like if i dont jump on one, then i will miss out. Otherwise, do you think it would be a better option to downgrade him (this is for my team), and upgrade Williams? Because i have spent quite a bit in the midfield...

And Meyer over Zadkovich?

And besides being really cheap, is there another reason you have jumped on Tyson?

MajorLazer

Thanks BS. :)

Will take your advice on Boogard, and am also wanting for Covic.

BlueStorm

No wuckers Major  ;) Check what squad news you can over the next few days. Official teams tend to be released about 6pm Thursday - though this can run over by hours on occasion. FoxSports website normally has it as quick as anyone (any official A League site should be avoided like the plague - light on for any decent info and generally a week or two out of date.)

At least with AFL teams, it is only the Sunday games you need to worry about with extended benches, but many A League coaches make a mockery of their lists. It is not unusual to find (5 players to be ommitted) at the end. Also check the Adelaide Advertiser website for any local talk - every chance your Boogard selection could be the way to go, but at least you have an out.

Luigi - Taking a bit of a punt with Djite, but if memory serves me correctly, he did have a good spell @ Gold Coast running amok with Smeltz. I really don't rate him as a lone striker, not strong enough in either heading or ball control to consistently beat a decent backline, but history at both club and country level suggest he makes a good # 2.

At that price, good enough for me to start with him and evaluate early season. Adelaide have not been historically a high scoring team, but have been renowned for a stingy defence. I think we might see that change a little this season, they simply have to score more goals. And Djite will be down there...  :)

Tyson - Only that he looked the cheapest of the # 2 keepers. He is behind only Moss @ GC, but most of the other $75k options are # 3. Fairly certain Moss has always missed a few games with injury each season. Mind you, I don't expect to have to use him and would likely swap my # 1 keeper if the need arises.

Myer/Zadkovich - Meh! Can see them both getting similiar opportunites, but wouldn't be brave enough to suggest one has a clear edge over the other. At a pinch Meyer - only because who knows what to expect from the Jets over the next few weeks as a new coach settles down - Merrick & Van Egmond are the two constantly talked about. And while I see Roar struggling to match their (stunning) goal tally of last season, the backline looks solid and an extra 1 point for midfielder clean sheet is not to be sneezed at  ;)

Now - the Harry/Emmo debate. I concede I will be the first to jump all over both if they start the season on fire, but I would rather stack the forward line to start with. As squad value increases way beyond what either of those two rise, there is always the opportunity to grab one/both down the track.

I am quite surprised to see Smeltz is in barely any of the posted teams. For those new to the game, the man has been a scoring machine at both Wellington & Gold Coast, often with little support. With Dodd & Miller feeding him, I am already dreaming of 15 point hauls  ;D So really Luigi, it comes down to where I wanted to spend my coin. Smeltz ain't cheap, but I am expecting a better return from him on a consistent basis than either of the two 'stars'.

Don't get me wrong, great to have both of them back, but this is Fantasy World we are talking about...

Still no Effing news on Covic and his price - Argh!!!

I'm just waiting to pounce on Covic, but they may be sly dogs and put him on the system after the lockout. >:(

I have Mullen in right now, but I probably will change back to Boogard if he is named.

Also, what do you think about Vidosic? Just wondering.

BlueStorm

Not sure what to expect from Vidosic to be honest. He may prove a valuable link man in the Reds line-up, or he may act as a sub, often only playing 15-20. I know he is classy, but will be interesting to see how he fits in. With a $225k price tag, not a gamble I would take. He would be a great point of difference though, and if the Reds turn it on, he may well join the party.

For the record, this is my predicted ladder for the season (regular season):

Victory
Roar
Reds
CCM
Bling
Glory
Heart
GC
Jets
Phoenix

Take it for what it's worth, but as always fantasy-wise, doesn't hurt to have a bunch of winners in your squad  ;)

Gawd, the new FoxSports FC would want to improve once the action gets underway. It's all well and good getting excited about 'big interviews' with Emmo & Lucas Neill, but there is really no news in asking them 15 ways about how exciting the Victory v Bling clash will be, and how important the clash will be for the local game. Talk about flogging a dead horse...

Just finished watching tonight's bore fest - Andy Maher works for radio, not TV, and what happened to Robbie Slater? No complaints about more Mel McLaughlin though  ;)

McRooster

Anyone else using ALL their cash ? or are you gonna keep some spare change for upgrades  :-\

Ryan (Tyson)
Traore, Rose, Franjic, Mullen (Antonis)
McGlinchey, Slory, Fred, Kewell (Zadkovich)
Simon (c), Williams (Broadfoot)

This leaves me with 0k in the bank :P

5 players from last year have again made it into Governor Hindmarsh's squad, and I may live to regret it by getting Kewell (leaves me a bit light up forward) but I just can't resist Harry. I know it's a bit having the cash to buy an expensive Ferrari when you probably get better performance from a cheaper Hyundai - but the ride should be worth it  8)
