57 for the week, Smeltz El Capitano. Up to 102 overall and on the march :)

Jake if you are going to do it, option A looks best.

Hello again everyone,

This week I scored 48 with Smeltz as captain (how do you think he'll go again Wellington this week?)

I've made a few transfers, my team now looks like this:

GK:   Covic
DEF: Rose, Jurman (Bluestorm....I told you he'd be a good buy!), Franjic (Out goes Marrone), Good (Out goes Mullen), Antonis
MID: Broich, Nichols (Out goes McGlinchey), Miller, Abbas, Slory
FWD: Smeltz, Djite (thinking of trading him for Rojas...), Thompson.

How's it looking?

Plus what are the thoughts on James Brown (GCU)? Think he can keep scoring or what?

Ciao

alexandrepato

Also, I thought I'd mention with my team, the plan is for when Amini gets back to trade Abbas --> Amini,
And then potentially to fit Wilkinson (CCM) in the defensive lineup for when he gets back. Might be tricky...

Thoughts? Who do you recommend as a solid captain this week?

I'm thinking Brisbane Roar will steamroll Gold Coast, only wish I had Besart Berisha...but should I make Broich or Nichols captain?

The other games, Melbourne Victory to beat Melbourne Heart 1-0, (I reckon Kewell might get his first)
Perth V Wellington I think will be a draw, 1-1.
Jets V Mariners, as much as it pains me to say as a Jets supporter, I think Draw/Mariners.
And Adelaide V Sydney, I think Adelaide/Draw.

However, rival round has thrown up some interesting scores in previous years, so don't count on me!

Ciao

Hi AP,
Be careful of getting too many Olyroos players (Jurman, Nichols ext.) as they will miss 8 weeks of a-league soon. Your team looks great but you should try and get VD in soon. VD, Smeltz and Broich are all must-haves IMO.

alexandrepato

Hi Barlow,

Thanks for that advice (I didn't even consider that).

According to Wikipedia, here are the Olyroos players that come from within the A-League that played most recently:

GK: Andrew Redmayne (Brisbane Roar), Mark Birighitti (Adelaide United)
DEF: Sebastian Ryall (Sydney FC), Matthew Jurman (Brisbane Roar), Scott Neville (Perth Glory), Aziz Behich (Melbourne Heart), Matthew Foschini (Melbourne Victory), Daniel Mullen (Adelaide United).
MID: James Brown (Gold Coast United), Oliver Bozanic (Central Coast Mariners), Diogo Ferreira (Melbourne Victory), Mitch Nichols(Brisbane Roar), Mate Dugandzic (Melbourne Heart), Rhyan Grant (Sydney FC), Ben Kantarovski (Newcastle Jets)
FWD: Jason Hoffman (Melbourne Heart), Marko Jesic (Newcastle Jets), Kofi Danning (Brisbane Roar)

Which other players are to add to this list?

And also Barlow, the 8 weeks you mentioned they would miss, when is this due to occur?

Ciao

I'm unsure when the 8 weeks is but this guy is writing a post on it on his website this week.

Captain selection?
I'll be making Kewell or Archie captain this week as they're up against a lacklustre Heart outfit without their captain.... But I wouldn't listen to me, as last week I had Rose hoping he'd keep a clean sheet against GC and hopefully an assist  ::)

As for trades, I may be doing this...

Out:
Emerton  (dammit! :o ) and Djite

In:
Smeltz and Andrezinho or Duganzic.

I prefer Andrezinho but it would leave me with both him and Dodd in the guts which is a little worrying...

Luigi197

OK.
I've brought back trust in Kewell, i think.
But Fred and Djite on the sidelines wont help, so.

Rose (CCM not looking very healthy) for Van Den Brink (should get involved with Smeltz as a spark, plus Perth looking good)
Fred (injured for 3 weeks) for J Brown (in form and should keep it up)
Djite (injured for 3 weeks) for Van Dijk (obviously...)

What do you think? good?

OK, one by one...

Everyone - Anyone who has Smeltz has massive balls not to settle the C on him this week. Would not be surprised if Archie gets at least one this week, Nichols & Broich prob reliable picks, but with a weakened Phoenix making the longest road trip in domestic soccer, hard to see how Smeltz won't score at least one.

Alex - I agree, with kudos, about Jurman. Selected him in the other fantasy comp and very happy. Be wary about picking up Good. With Colosimo returning this week, he is the obvious backline casualty. And no, I will bet my house that J Brown will not score a goal each week. Mind you, he will be a buy that will earn you cash as his popularity rises, just a matter of picking the right time to jump.

Luigi - Keep the faith with Rose. Don't see VDB as much of an improvement. I know you are looking to free up cash though. I think there are better options than Brown to replace Fred; Miller from Perth & Abbas (New) seem better long term options to me. I understand you want VD, but doing all this costs you 8 points off the bat  ???

Chumps - I know, you took the Emerton gamble, and while you want to cut him loose, I'd be tempted to hold. A straight swap to Broich has merit. Smeltz should be got at all costs IMO (at least for the 1st 6-8 weeks, before Glory traditionally drop their bundle ;)) Adrezinho, while impressive, doesn't look likely to play 90 that often. Dugandzic is a better pick, but suspect he will play off the wing now (with Colosiom returning to CD, and Thomspon to the Mid).

Tips for the Round
Brisbane 2 (Broich, Berisha), Gold Coast 0
Adelaide 3 (VD 2, Watson), Sydney 1 (Emerton Pen)
Victory 2 (Thompson, Hernandez), Heart 0
Newcastle 1 (Haliti), Central Coast 1 (Pelligrino)
Perth 3 (Smeltz 2, Miller 1), Wellington 0

At a stinking wedding for the derby Sat night. The groom tells me the toilets have TV - tipping they ain't showing FoxSports  :'(

Thought so. What's your take on the Olyroos situation Bluestorm? You obviously have Nichols, Jurman, Antonis and Djite (If my memory serves me right). I've been pondering this thought for most of this week. I think Djite turned out to be a bust anyway (especially with Vidosic coming back in). I'm inclined to swap him... Thoughts in general?

Ciao

BlueStorm

Alex - Of the Olyroos, I think the only one I have is Jurman, and that was after I brought him in last night. Dumped Djite last week for Williams, Nichols was sacrificed for Broich before the first deadline, and never grabbed Antonis - OK, he is cheap, but what is he actually scoring for anyone?

I don't think it will be as bad as some are making out, unless you have half your team flying out each time. Looking at the future fixtures, the only ones with real fantasy relevance will be Nov 23 + 27, and then Feb 5 + 22. Yes, there will be some training camps around that time no doubt, but this underlines the need to pick a strong Squad, not just playing 11.

There will be plenty doing double or triple trades around that time, so some canny planning in the lead-up will automatically give you 6-9 points on many other players.

My Chumps

Ended up with a straight swap from Emerton to Broich  8)
Smeltz will have to wait....
Thanks again bluestorm  ;)

BlueStorm

Good move Chump! Sit back and enjoy a nice haul tonight, then grimmace Sunday as Smeltz bangs in a few...

Luigi197

OK. My team currently stands at this.

Covic
Franjic (BR), Traore, Mullen
Fred McGlinchey, Kewell (c), Abbas
Djite, Simon, Williams

0K in bank

(Tyson, Rose, Slory, Tsatallios)

OK. So I can't dissapoint this week, so Fred and Djite MUST be traded out. I am guessing that Smeltz/Van Dijk will have to wait, plus at least I got Kewell over Emerton, but am still not 100% sure on Kewell staying in my time for much longer.
That is my idea lienup this week.

Have to MINUS 3 points this week therefore:
* = requires a SLIGHT downgrade somewhere
Fred(198k) to J Brown(137k), Dugandzic(161k), Nichols*(207k) or Miller(151k).
Djite (173k) to Macallister(150k), Griffiths*(208k), Greenacre*(178k), Berisha*(179k) or Mehmet*(175k)

Please Help! :)
