You think GWS will beat Port but Collingwood wouldn't this season? haha But I agree though, GWS should beat Port.

Although this article is about the Suns Player in thailand also contains an interseting couple of paragraphs start of which is quoted below:

"Brisbane wants compensation from Greater Western Sydney if Luke Power plays on with the Giants.
The Lions have approached the AFL for clarification about the rules regarding retired players, with Power set to revive his glittering career with the expansion club in 2012."

An interesting development which may be advantageous to both Brisbane, Port Adelaide and Melbourne  or may force GWS to use these players in pure coaching roles if they have to compensate clubs.

I don't think Melbourne have any play on this because McDonald is already off their list. From what I understand, although Power, Brogan and Cornes have "retired" they are all still on their clubs respective lists at the moment, which technically means Brisbane and Port are entitled to a compensation draft pick similar to what the other clubs are getting for Ward, Palmer, Scully and Davis.

i don't think any 'retired' players where clubs have asked them to step aside for the young blood should mean that the clubs can now ask for compensation picks. they've asked them to go, they have and now those players have decided to move on - like giving up your seat and then wanting sit on that person's lap ...  ;)

If they do get some compensation (Although I hope they don't as they said they can't see the players fitting into their teams), it will probably be later round draft picks.

The draft isn't strong this season past the first round (although who knows who could step up on the big stage) so getting some more experienced heads in the first year can keep the lists flowing. When they decide to retire in 1-2 seasons, as SydneyRox said, it will means they can keep their youngsters in the team. It's certainly an interesting strategy and could put them on par with the Suns short term although long term I still see the Suns list so far being better.

I agree HP.
IMO Gold Coast will be a lot better long term.
Although GC should be looking at Tippet, could be a great pickup for them.

Strong Rumour in Qld is they are looking at him in exchange for one of their banked first round draft picks.  Would be a good pick up to finish off their experience in the forward line.

Couldn't agree more. Plus he is at a good age, and GC are very short on forwards.

Can not blame Brisbane though for asking for clarification especially when Power is playing on. Do not care if AFL say get lost but if they agree we are eligible for compensation then so be it.

ajjewell

I think it is a little cheeky by Brisbane telling Power to retire then when GWS show a bit of interest in him they lineup in the hope of getting something for him, good luck to them if it pays off though I guess

Ziplock

I cant blame them for trying, but, as I said, I would just tell them where to put it :P
