Fan Footy's Top 18 Overall Coaches for 2011

Regarding- top 16 coaches for 2011, was just wondering how they all fared the last couple of years. Are there many coaches that consistantly get in top 1000 say, or do people have a great year- then a very average year I would really like to know how the good coaches went for say the last 3 to 5 years. Mine is 107 in 2009-- 3815 in 2010---- 1550 in 2011' Cheers guys

like what might happen in SC, why dont we organise a multi league for DT aswell,  DIV.1,2,3 however many teame are interested.  FF needs to be repersented in the top 20 leagues overall

Gday regarding your question, not sure if Im still top 16 but finished 613 Ill give you my 2 cents,  ;)

Talking for DT & SC.

Was my 3rd year playing, In 2009 got in late, picked a bunch of Carlton players as ya do when you first play just pick players you like.
About half way through the season started to realise there was a bit of strategy involved, ie. simple things like rookie downgrade make cash upgrade another to a prem etc. Think I finished in top 15k won my league of nuffys ;)

In 2010 I picked a bunch of mid pricers who failed, again learning the hard way (such as Ben Warren) traded them out early made a bunch of ground and ended up in the top few thousand.
Had Kruezer (Who got injured) and Jolly (who didnt come good til mid-season) in the rucks which hurt me early on.

In 2011 (3rd year rule kicked in  ;D) I pretty much took all the risks and made all the fvck-ups you can and well and truely learnt from them in the past 2 seasons, told myself I wanted to finish top 1000 in both comps.
Key thing I also told myself is do not follow any one strategy! Sounds silly but this is pretty much the key to my success and  from what I have read by many other high placed players.

Looked at what was available, picked Swan & Pendles from the start which was a no no for many which obviously paid off huge for me. Picked a good side for the start of the season not for the bye rounds like people are doing for next year.
I traded into the byes which worked well.

Ended up with a starting team geared towards Guns & Rookies although wasnt my intention but what came of what was on offer had a couple mid pricers who improved, grabbed mature agers too which was also key.

Made a couple of mistakes which I reckon cost me maybe 300 spots. Traded out Petrie when he was struggling but hen he came good and Traded In Shaw the week before he got done for murder.....sorry 10 dollar bet  :P
Trading aggresively, got my team soughted very early and just watched the massive scores come in.
Didnt stress about rookies being at their absolute peek grabbed a gun as soon as it was feasible without dooming myself for future trades.

I always had a rough trading plan based on BE's etc atleast a few weeks in advance, didn't always work to a tee but gave me a few options instead of hedging bets on one player and hoping i could do more upgrades. Put myself in a position where I could always trade in pretty much any gun I wanted.

Without being full of myself Im quite confident I will finish top 1000 from now on provided I continue to pick a good starting team like I did, made it so much easier with the right prems and rooks in my side from the get go and not falling into the strategy trap (Guns & Rookies, Mid pricers blah blah blah).

Just picked the absolute best team I could with players who were mostly healthy and rooks who were playing early and often, and went from there.

I have little doubt that u will get in top 1000 by ur s/c and d/t rankings (great effort CuStA by the way) .I also started with Swan - Pendles , but made some really bad trades. One of which was getting H Shaw the thursday, because was going away friday morning, and u know the rest :-[ . Finished 107 in 2009 and my goal is to beat that. Don't like my chances, but it's fun trying

Understandable a bit hard to do when your going away, I just got an Iphone 4/s so no dramas if i go away from now on  ;D
