Redden , Rockliff aren't in top 8 sides, and were all saying either or both of them are locks for next season.

Andrew will have to black list them too, same as GAJ

Thought it'd be a controversial one, but for mine Scott Thompson is on the decline and I don't like getting premiums from bottom 8 teams as I'm sure Adelaide will be next season. I've had Thompson for the 2nd half of the season and wouldn't touch next season, not for $400k plus anyway. Your midfield premiums have to be the best of the best and Thompson has only scored well against the shower teams. Some thought he was Swan/Ablett/Mitchell quality, but he just isn't.

You cannot disregard a true premium simply because you don't believe that his team will make the top 8. Sure it's natural that many of the premiums play in top 8 teams, but to totally discount him is just foolish.

Not totally discounting him, if he's cheap enough. But for over $400k, which is his likely price, I'll be looking elsewhere at the start of the season.

Haha good one chatters24, but I don't know who this reflects worse on - is Thompson in the same league as Ablett as a DTer in your book? Especially considering Ablett was just warming up in the first 2 months of this season from hip surgury, I think that's an incorrect comparison. For the same price, no one is picking Thompson over Ablett.

@PowerBug, what I said was: "I don't like getting premiums from bottom 8 teams as I'm sure Adelaide will be next season."

Doesn't mean I won't though, but I am saying it counts against a player (think premium v premium decisions here).

Thanks for the feedback everyone, thought I'd slip in a controversial one and see the response as preaching to the converted hardly educates/promotes discussion (although it does get brownie-points from chatters24). But look at examples from 2010 into 2011, I had Kane Cornes last season and picked the decline, Bartel is another good example. I don't like writing off veterans of our game too early but DT-wise - with less interchange rotations these days - anyone aged 29 or over is a risk and that's what Thompson will be at the start of the 2012 season.

I agree with you in it does count, i don't like Redden or Rockliff.
Hey without disagreements there'd be no dreamteam coz they'd all be the same.

I was going to say its not a good idea to ban a player based on emotion but suckling gets that ban. But suckling has just recieved it.

I had 1 trade left last round and i chose to go for what i thought was a smart option Scotland to Suckling as i  didnt want to have to play pup. So what happens Pup comes out and scores over double sucklings score. Than with all the injuries i have fyfe and franklin on my bench and with no trades i cant trade one of them out.

To make matters worse suckling posts another ppor score and losses to suckling again. If scotland comes out and posts a 100+ score than the ban will be permanent. I said at round 5 i dont want a guy with a name that contains suck in my team but i did it anyway.

We can blacklist all we want, but when the time comes to pick a side some of those prices are too juicy to resist and we all do it, either because thats all we can afford with our last pick or because "they were killing it preseason".  I reckon everyone who has posted on this site had at least 1 player blacklisted from last year and they picked them up this year only to disappoint?  Off the top of my head I can say Grimes was one of mine, but again he will be temptress for my team next year knowing he will most likely get injured.

On Scott Thompson, think he will still be a gun, but the value will be with Vince next year, maybe even Van Berlo although I think he is the wost captain in the league.

I meant to say this thread...

Surely everyone has a guy not necessarily "blacklisted", but in your own mind you know is a bad idea, but take them anyway?  I reckon you're lying if this is not the case.

LF

no i`m not lying in fact i blacklisted Chapman a few years ago and have never taken ever since and never will.

Rioli : Love him think he is an awesome player but is way to injury prone
Grimes : Injury Prone
Nick Reiwoldt : Done with him now some other players who are looking better as pick ups for next year
Higgins : Again done with him because of his injuries
Gram : DT tease great scores then shower scores then scores well again except when it counts
Broughton : Had a role change at the start of the year then was thrown into the mids giving out great scores then has been moved again.

keep adding to the thread.who is a no go for you next year.
out of my list the only players i`ve had before are N.Roo and Rioli.

Fair enough, Chappy has had 2 great years in a row though, so it may have been to the detriment of your team unless you picked up a suitable replacement that did the same job, theres not that many out there to field all 7 players though in your forward line.

There is always a player you can find that other teams don`t have that can cover the scores of someone like Chapman.Even if you don`t have them in your starting team but you upgrade to them.

I think thats fine if you're going for a league win, but it doesn't work if you are going for overall position.  If 1 or more players on your blacklist is in the top say, 10 players in that position and you aren't willing to make the change to bring them in, then it would be very hard to finish #1 let alone in the top few hundred.  I just don't think its possible, that's why no one is ultimately blacklisted for me.  I used to blacklist when going for league, but this year I went for my top finish and brought the best in and it has paid off.  Still improvement to do for next year, but its been my best year yet starting ranked around 62k when the season began to now being in the top 2000, and I have traded aggressively.

Fyfe_gun

jack riewoldt
trent cotchin

might as well just add whole of richmond ... maybe not deledio

patty ryder....... long pause ...........

saints midfielders (montags, hayes, nds)

Very intelligent comment and when "blacklisting" a player I think people have their expected premium price in mind.

"On Scott Thompson, think he will still be a gun, but the value will be with Vince next year, maybe even Van Berlo although I think he is the wost captain in the league."

Exactly my thoughts, but yeah if Scott Thompson ends up being a starting value of $300k then I'm hopping on. More likely Thompson will be $450k though and there will be better options at that price.
