GWS star signing?

It seems to me like GWS have not been linked to/or are about to sign anyone good (or if they have ala the Collingwood trio they have re-signed with their clubs).

Ward, Palmer,Clark, Davis - none of these guys are stars.

And for me Scully still needs to develop under some classy midfielders for him to become a superstar.

They may get better with time and become good players, but surely GWS need 1-2 star players.

At the moment if I was a GWS fan I wouldn't be excited by any of the players the club has been linked to.

So who will it be?

Or are GWS going to wait until the end of next season to snap someone up like Pendlebury.

Otherwise they will struggle to win even a single game next season and then the club will struggle as fans won't come to watch a team get thumped every week.

I rate the Gold Coast signings a lot higher and some of them were fairly obvious like Ablett and Rischitelli.

My guess is a big-name player from Sydney will sign (or from NSW originally). If I was Sheedy i'd want someone like Goodes.

agree for sure, think they r more eying 2012s class of out of contract "stars" GOD and Pendles...

Ziplock

they definitely need an ablett equivalent. But, who's really up there with ablett's skills? Judd, Pendles, J. Selwood?

anyone else? Dal Santo, Thompson?

PowerBug

Swan, Goodesy, Pavlich? None of them will go.

Ziplock

nup, not a chance.

someone like pendles or selwood would be perfect.

yep, need a relatively young superstar

I think they're just trying to build a solid and evenly balanced team that will supply them with success in the future. Don't forget that a signing such as the Ablett like RARELY come around.

Now there is finally some speculation about a real big name - Sam Mitchell.

I see how it is going to work now - GWS can do player trades with the top four pre-selection picks to get some stars who are still under contract for this year. I imagine that will be the way they get experienced players.

Personally if I was Mitchell I would jump at the offer. He is getting on a bit (29) and can set up his family/future with this deal.

It makes sense actually - GWS need a captain and Mitchell is probably one of the only players that they can get that already has experience of captaining a club who isn't a current captain.

And, Mitchell won't be around for just enough time for GWS to have developed/find the most outstanding youngster with the best leadership skills as a future captain. If he plays to 33-34 then the 18 year olds will be 22-23 with 4-5 seasons under their belt so would be ready to take over.

Is it worth giving up Jaeger though?
I thought GWS could just poach him for free?

roo boys!

Interesting. He would be perfect for them.

Will Mitchell be as inspirational to GWS as Ablett is to Gold Coast.

behind the scenes i'd say yes. On field it would be hard to match Gary Abletts "Jesus" like performances

GWS cant take Jaeger this year.  They can only take offers from other clubs to go in to a mini-draft where they have the chance to pick him up.  If he doesnt get picked up in the mini-draft then he will have to go to the normal draft next year like every other 17 year old.

I have heard another name linked to GWS which has not been mentioned.  Big star from St Kilda

Yes Valk I heard a report with initials BG so we wait.

Mentioned in Local Sunday Mail in Qld  trying to get link to article but can not locate. (Article starts "Greater Western Sydney Coach Kevin Sheedy says he will appoint co captains next year as Sam Mitchell and Brendon Goddard became the latest big named linked to the Giants."

Tried to locate link to report but could not find.
