i am definatley going to start with a strong midfield, mine this year was still ordinary this week, and i am going to try not to get a cam richardson next year :)
yeah, definitely no C Richs next year as likely to go back to 2 on the benches ...  :o

Bosh

Don't pick players from struggling teams and expect them to have a breakout year.

Maca24

Look for players that are about to explode, and have the balls to pick them.
Only pick players with a full preseason, and pick consistent premiums to start with.

the thing that will be difficult to pick this coming season is the backline marshall/sweepers ... with the forward press introduction this had a significant impact on our usual def premiums and sub-premiums (eg Goddard and sub-prem, Duffield) - also Hurn looked at times to be ready to explode but then consistency issues didn't see him take off as some might have hoped.

i think it is going to be difficult to pick the stand-out def premiums (after the top3) but is certainly going to make things interesting.

What im worried about is picking another forward who is going to score under 40s for most of his time out there. Jayden Pitt and Cam Richardson were my 2 last year and before that Relton Roberts   >:(.

thats the secret

Torress

next season if i miss the curnow of 2011 i'm bringing him in early and not backing a bewick/atley to lift!! and lol yes avoiding cam richo prototypes!!
i also think we may be getting carried away with 2nd year players. fyfe is just a gun player and i'm personally still wary of 2nd year blues. i think i'll be definately starting the mummy next season, looks to be hitting his prime - but do you go with cox or sandi as no. 1???

Ringo

Torress  Depending on whether I can afford it am looking at Berger and Mummy as rucks for next year over both Sandy and Cox.  IMO these 2 and Goldie were the form rucks over the last 10 weeks of the season..

Torress

ringo it would be brave but could pay dividends. if Hmac stays i think goldie is out of contention in SC. but mitch clark looks set to head to freo.. berger will ruck the majority. also no charman. what did he average like 103 - his breakout season.  and could lift it to 110+ no doubt based on his last 10 or so games and rucking alone. but trade week might result in a seaby or someone like him ending up at brisbane to cover the ruck stocks.
cox had his best SC year to date with a 122 average, will be very expensive nexy year, so will sandi with a 110 average.
surely freo will dictate sandi's game time next season to make sure he gets through the season, especially with zac clarke improving and arrival of mitch clark. turf toe is random tho!

Question is would not having cox or sandi hurt you too much for overall?? cant see berger getting near 120 average like cox, interesting!

Speculator

This is my strategy:

Ensure that you have a mid/fwd rookie (i.e. Krakouer) AND a mid/back rookie (i.e. Heppell) in your midfield. Then make sure that these are the last rookies that you trade out. This will provide essential flexibility to cover donuts all year.
Select Goddard Gibbs and Deledio in the backline. Then wait and see on the other defenders.
Select 2 to 3 Midfield Premiums. Probably 2 uber premiums (Ablett/Swan) and one underpriced permium (Hayes/Bartel/Barlow etc.) The rest will be rookies. With GWS there should be plenty of options. Last year I had only Montagna and Boyd in my midfield (plus rookies) and I did well winning 3 of my 5 leagues and runner up in the other 2.  You need plenty of midfield rookies, this is where the safe cash is. Fwd and Bac rookies are too speculative to be relied upon to make you the big cash. It will be especially important with 3 less rookies to select in your squad of 30 compared to last year where 3 bench players meant that you could make the odd mistake with a rookie and not be too badly affected. Next year you really need to nail them, and I agree if you make a mistake trade them out before the price rise.
The only forward who is locked at this early stage is Franklin. The number of rookie backs and forwards will depend entirely on the quality, and more importantly the job security, of the available rookies. If there are plenty of Lowers, Duigans, and Stanley's available next year I will have no hesitation in starting 2 rookies on the ground in my backline. If there are none it may be necassary to pick an Andy Otten or two. Blokes who have some chance of not playing the first 6 weeks should be avoided at all costs. Also if you can set up a multi positional ruckman link then you should absolutely do so. The Petrie/Joel Tippet link last year saved my bacon plenty of times, especially when Sandi went down. (I also had Z Smith so was blessed with ruck options). I will try again to go into the finals with 5 trades provided I have the double chance. This way if I go out in straight sets then I will have only one unused trade when eliminated. If I win in the first week, it will leave me with 3 trades for the prelim and granny.
I could keep going but on and on here but duty calls........

To early for me to lockdown any strategys. Theres alot of hype about certain rookies already as there is every year but after pre-

season and the commencement of the Nab cup alot of that hype goes out the window and falls onto another rookies shoulders

immediately. Untill i have alot more data on the rookies that can cut it and will play early, this is all to way up in the air at the

moment. Alot of coaches will have Didak in their sides already but will he continue his current roll or fall back to the guy he was in

2009/2010, how will Hayes come back from a knee recon at 31 years of age. What affect will new coaches have on their players

and their output. Is N.Roo going to be able to find his prem form again or is his knee going to restrict his running power and

therefore reduce his output, i could go on and on but ive made my point. Im in no way saying its to early to speculate and build

teams, notice i said TEAMS. That to me is the way to go early, build as many sides as you have to so you cover all the possible

options which isnt as easy as that sounds either. When the magic number and prices have been worked out for certain then i'll

start to put things together, i have some idea/ideas on what and who i like for 2012 ie never more than 8 players in my team who i

expect to trade (Always hope theres one or two or more that i will keep). Pick the best ruck combination possible, these two things

are always set in stone for me year in and year out now. I find that if i start doing my homework around December while keeping

my finger on the pulse up till then i have plenty of time to organise myself, my team will change atleast a dozen times anyway why

make it 2 or 3 dozen times.

Holz

I was thinking of loading up on injury affected players and premiums who have fallen, to me there is alot of value in guys like mundy, barlow, hayes, hartlett, grimes, waters, brown, voldt, jroo

there is also the negative side Holz, grimes worries me, leg issues always have me worried too.
