What the title says, who do you feel has a great contribution each week, but is always under valued in terms of scores given?

I'd like to throw Brett Deledio's name out there. He's not underrated as a player, but in the Supercoach realm he never gets the recognition he deserves for the great and consistent scores he gets every week. He's in everyone's team, the backbone of most backlines, but doesn't seem to get the praise he should!

I find Scott Thompson highly under rated.
Agree especially after last weeks when he only scored 162 SC points with the possessions he had.

Bias B was probably talking about the Kangaroo's version.

Probably defenders like Glass, Jamison, Ben Reid, etc.

Ben Reid highly rate.

Libba should score twice as much as everyone else with his disposals because his decision making is top 3 in the league along with Pendlebury and Marc Murphy. He spots shizen that most other players wouldn't notice, and dishes off with accurate disposal. He is Neo and the Afl ground is The Matrix.

Nope was not. Totally bias, so bias that I picked Saints over Kangas....

Also I'm not sure why you don't get 1-2 points for spoils/effective spoils. Why don't traditional defenders get more rewarded.

I think you get points for spoils.  There are some attributes you don't see, but they do come into calculations.

I think Merret scored 120 from spoils alone lol.

I have pasted information that I had that may assist - Bit lengthy but details some.  As they mention 57 I suspect Spoils are part of it which as Charlie says accounts for the improvement in Merrets scores this year.

How the AFL Player Rankings are calculated
he Player Rankings formula is based on the Official AFL Statistics, and is calculated by computer.
The rankings formula is weighted in favour of effective use of the ball (loaded in favour of good kicking)
and various types of possession gainers (loaded in favour of winning disputed ball).
Evidence based on extensive research into winning and losing factors in AFL games (1,110 games in total
from 1999 to 2003) by Champion Data and the Swinburne Univerisity School of Mathematics is
unequivocal â€" effective kicking and winning disputed ball in critical situations is what counts most.
Accordingly, the AFL Players Rankings are geared to reward these winning factors. The formula is
scientifically derived and objective.
Rankings samples
An effective long kick has to travel more than 40 metres to a 50/50 contested or better for the team. The
computer adds four rankings points for each effective long kick.
If the long kick goes to a teammate for an uncontested possession, research shows this is very valuable
for the team and the computer adds five rankings points to the players tally.
Effective short kicks are less than 40 metres that result in uncontested possession to a teammate. The
computer also adds four rankings points for these.
Clanger kicks are when the kick goes down the throat of the opposition and the computer deducts eight
rankings points from the players tally because this hurts the team badly.
Ineffective kicks occur most often where players kick short to a contest and the computer ignores these by
giving a zero rankings value.
A goal receives eight ranking points in addition to the four ranking points for the effective kick, and the
points awarded for the possession type resulting in the kick and goal.
Another example of weighing in favour of game breaking statistic is contested marking. A contested mark
results in four rankings points to the player.
A contested mark from an opposition kick is very important and the computer adds eight rankings points
for these.
Publishing formula policy
The rankings value for each statistical category has been endorsed by the AFL and the Swinburne
University School of Mathematics.
There are a total of 57 individual statistics categories where the computer attributes either a positive or
negative value.
Several of these categories, such as ‘marks from opposition kicks’ ranking points, are derived from the
computer linking a series of composite statistics.
Given the unique intellectual property contained in the rankings formula and the degree of underlying
computer logic applied, Champion Data does not publish the full rankings formula.

Defenders such as Reid and Gibson and Scarlett do more for their teams than many who average 100+ a game.

A. Swallow is another who doesnt get recognition for great scoring, Rockliff has had a huge year this year too but you don't hear his name mentioned too much.

You get points for spoils to advantage.
Isn't any effective spoil an advantage? Defenders always score less even when they take out the best forward and keep them goalless. May not have high stats, but their impact on the game can be huge, but still only score 40 points.

Andrew Swallow for me. Highly under-owned. Gets forgotten because he doesn't play for a glamour club.
